When to sit back after communion?

How can it be a norm?
It’s the norm (not a norm, the norm) because in this context, norm = rule rather than “normal”, and most parishes in the US are not normally known to follow the rule in this specific case. The GIRM as quoted above prescribes standing, but most people kneel out of custom or habit.

As an aside, I always find a little personal amusement in those who are sticklers for the rubrics and insist on “everyone should be kneeling now” in some of these discussions. 😁

As a product of Catholic education, I was taught to sit after the priest sits or tells us that we can sit
 
I typically sit when the priest sits. That’s just me, though. There really is, as others have pointed out, no hard and fast rule on the issue.
