I don’t see any credibility in the idea that God picked out two semi-humans in a group, dropped in souls, and they became human. Divinely revealed truth must be brought into consideration when talking about the ontological leap to man. Science can only see a part of the whole picture.

The “Catholic Answers” link referenced in post #18 contains, in part, the following:

"Concerning biological evolution, the Church does not have an official position on whether various life forms developed over the course of time. However, it says that, if they did develop, then they did so under the impetus and guidance of God, and their ultimate creation must be ascribed to him.

Concerning human evolution, the Church has a more definite teaching. It allows for the possibility that man’s body developed from previous biological forms, under God’s guidance, but it insists on the special creation of his soul."

This seems to contradict your statement.

How so? Pope Benedict has stated that it is not possible to verify or disprove this. That’s all I’m saying. Church teaching is clear that we had two original, human parents, the parents of all. They are the source of Original Sin.

Last Few Early Humans Survived in ‘Eden,’ Scientists Say

A strip of land on Africa’s southern coast became a last refuge for the band of early humans who survived an ice age that wiped out the species elsewhere, scientists maintained Sunday.
The land, referred to by researchers as “the garden of Eden,” may have been the only part of Africa to remain continuously habitable during the ice age that began about 195,000 years ago.
Scientists’ excavations showed how a combination of rich vegetation on land and nutrient-laden currents in the sea created a source of food that could sustain early humans through devastating climate changes.
“Shortly after Homo sapiens first evolved, the harsh climate conditions nearly extinguished our species,” said Professor Curtis Marean, of the Institute of Human Origins at Arizona State University. “Recent finds suggest the small population that gave rise to all humans alive today survived by exploiting a unique combination of resources along the southern coast of Africa.”
The idea that early humans were once reduced to a tiny remnant population arose from research showing that modern humans have far less genetic diversity than most other species. Some scientists suggested the human population could have fallen to as low as a few hundred individuals during this period, while others insisted the evidence to support this theory remains weak.

Fair enough. I took your comment as a refutation of the idea.

At first glance, I can see that your surmise could be consistent with the Church’s passage that I cut and pasted…:

“Concerning human evolution, the Church has a more definite teaching. It allows for the possibility that man’s body developed from previous biological forms, under God’s guidance, but it insists on the special creation of his soul.”

… however, it seems unlikely to me that you can reconcile your point and the Church’s. The Church seems to allow for the possibility that evolution occurred prior to humans receiving a soul. However, if Adam and Eve were the first two “evolved” humans, where did the rest of us humans come from? If ONLY from Adam and Eve, did God allow (or enact) that all other evolving creatures no longer evolved into humans…? And that the outcome of evolution was exactly one man and one woman?

“allow for the possibility” and then saying it cannot be verifyed or disproven, is clear.

While there are those who believe in a certain outcome, simply allowing for the possibility is not confirmation.
