Placage was adultery practiced by Catholics. Adultery is a mortal sin!

Yes. Just as is political support of abortion. Slavery was, like adultery, a serious evil, but at least the slaves lived. We moderns’ hands are covered with blood. Condemning people long dead does not wash them clean. We would do better to pay attention to our own sinfulness.

Obviously it was an improvement. Again, from your article:

Not defending slavery or any of its outgrowths. But your own authority says it improved what would otherwise have been the lives of many.
