Where does the Bible say that Jesus is God? (Split)

Hi Darryl, are you stating that a Bahai perspective is not welcome here?
When the perspective is to usher in a new age of superior enlightenment over historical unchanging truth, all within a modern context? That sounds very much like a comparison of faiths rather than on the actual topic.

The scriptures tell us over and over and over and over and over that Jesus is God…

Jesus’ friend was named Lazarus. The name Lazarus is a derivative of the Hebrew name Eleazar which means “God has helped”. Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead. Lazarus’ name “God has helped” tells us that Jesus is God. God in the person of Jesus restored Lazarus to life.

But where does it say Christ was God? I’m a little confused.
The bible is not the truth and foundation. The church is. That’s in the bible. So if the truth is the church then listen to the Church. Jesus is God.

When exactly did the Baha’i movement start? Were they there at the foundation of Christendom? Had they evolved higher understanding than the Early Church Fathers? Were they there when they laid down the Nicene Creed? Were they at Trent? Did they go through the protestant reformation? did they go through modernism?

I would ask you please. The Baha’i threads are waning thin, please don’t make this thread about Baha’i too, It is about Jesus, Son of God and God the Son.
Darryl,
. I’m not sure if you are asking for a reply to your first set of questions or not, but will assume that you asked for answers to be given to what you have posted.

. As religion is seen as one continuous unfoldment from the Baha’i perspective, I suppose that it started with Adam, or before, and continued with Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus, Muhammad, the Bab (in 1844), and Baha’u’llah (in 1863)

. God was surely present at the foundation of Christianity, as well as Judaism, etc.

. As to the early Church, the Jews also had an early Church, to which they might yet ask:

“Were the Christians there at the time of Abraham?”

“Were they there at Mt Sinai?”

“Were they there when Moses parted the Red Sea?”

. I think the answer would be in the affirmative, in that those who have believed in God at the time of these chronological events are one and the same set of believers, and fully identify with all of those who followed, suffered, and endured for the sake of the Cause of God, regardless of the name:

. “And thou shalt be called by a New Name, which the Mouth of the Lord shall utter” Isaiah 62:2

Are you referring to 1 Timothy 3:15? When you say it is in the Bible? Believe the traditions that have been handed down, long before the days of the printing press and people could find out for themselves. Jesus was God manifest in the flesh, but he still is as he has ever been, God.

John 14:7-10

Jesus is God, the Holy Spirit, and human [John 1:1-14; Revelation 5:5-6]

He is the Lion of the tribe of Judah … a “Jew” by His humanity

The Bible is truth.

The Church defends against error. That is what the pillar and foundation means in scripture, it supports truth and upholds truth by defending against error. That is the job of the Magisterium, to defend against error.

Sacred Scripture is part of God’s revelation to man. Sacred Scripture and Sacred Tradition go together and both are protected by the pillar and foundation of truth which is the Church.

To say that the Bible is not truth is misleading.

I think that might be an accidental slip. I don’t think squirel is saying the Bible is false, just that the Bible is not the end all of truth. Open it up read it and form your own opinion (bad idea). I have found historically besides the evidence of Scripture, the Early Church Fathers said the same thing about Jesus Christ.

One most interesting thing about the Bible, is that none of the authors once set out specifically to to prove something theologically. You do not have the same as Josephus’ Discourse on Hades eg. It is written specifically for believers, not to make believers. That was the job of the Church through word of mouth. So Jesus as God the Son, can be missed and even explained away out of the NT, as it has been done and I once did, and I still fell remorse.

He didn’t say that the Bible is not truth only that it isn’t the foundation but that the Church is the foundation. He was referring to 2 Timothy 3:15
But if I should be delayed, you should know how to behave in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of truth.

Hi to all!
Hope this helps!

“If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; from now on you know Him, and have seen Him.”
8 Philip said to Him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us.” 9Jesus said to him, “Have I been so long with you, and yet you have not come to know Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10“Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father is in Me?

Every miracle is a testimony to His Divinity. Miracles by definition are beyond scientific explanation. Only God can perform miracles.
How do you explain the miracles of Moses and the miracles of Buddha and the miracles of Bahá’u’lláh ?

God spoke to his creation and came to us in the fullness of time, when evil prevailed; to offer salvation.

The bible is not the truth and foundation. The church is. That’s in the bible. So if the truth is the church then listen to the Church. Jesus is God.
Be careful here. the bible is the word of God. to say that it is not truth is to call God a liar.

The Church is not the truth and foundation; JESUS is. He is the head, we are the body. To say that the church is truth and foundation is to turn the body into a monstrous thing with the head somewhere else but where it should be. AT THE TOP.

Better read it again: 1 Timothy 3:15
But if I should be delayed, I have written so that you will know how people ought to act in God’s household, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth.

How do you explain the miracles of Moses and the miracles of Buddha and the miracles of Bahá’u’lláh ?
Moses did not perform miracles by his own power unlike Jesus who is fully divine. I know of no miracles performed by the others.

Notice the spiral, not circular, argument.
  1. The apostles were willing to suffering everything for no earthly reason that the Sacred Scriptures of the New Testament are historically true.
  2. From there we can see that Christ founded an infallible Church.
  3. From that we see that the Bible is the Word of God
That the New Testament is true history is established in step 1.
You can find no such proof for the so called miracles of Buddha and Baha.

649 As for the Son, he effects his own Resurrection by virtue of his divine power. Jesus announces that the Son of man will have to suffer much, die, and then rise. Elsewhere he affirms explicitly: "I lay down my life, that I may take it again. . . I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again."517 …
** (**John 10:17-18
“For this reason the Father loves me, because I lay down my life, that I may take it again. 18 No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again; this charge I have received from my Father.”)

**653 The truth of Jesus’ divinity is confirmed by his Resurrection. He had said: “When you have lifted up the Son of man, then you will know that I am he.” (**John 8:28)
The Resurrection of the crucified one shows that he was truly “I AM”, the Son of God and God himself. … Christ’s Resurrection is closely linked to the Incarnation of God’s Son, and is its fulfilment in accordance with God’s eternal plan.
