Where in the Bible does it say God will send his son?

We were taught that as a “remedy” for the consequences of the Fall of Adam and Eve that God would send a redeemer — who we have since come to know as Christ, his only son. Where in the OT is the promise of God that he will send the savior to “fix” the transgression of Adam and Eve? I kind of expected to find it in Genesis, but didn’t see it, so can you guys help me out and point out to me the scriptural verse that promises a savior will come from God for the benefit of man to be reconciled to God?

Genesis 3:15 I will put enmities between thee and the woman, and thy seed and her seed: she shall crush thy head, and thou shalt lie in wait for her heel.

Isaiah 7:14 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign. Behold a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and his name shall be called Emmanuel.

Habacuc 3:13
“Thou wentest forth for the salvation of thy people: for salvation with thy Christ.”

Habacuc 3:18
“But I will rejoice in the Lord: and I will joy in God my Jesus.”

Lamentations 4:20
“The breath of our mouth, Christ the Lord, is taken in our sins: to whom we said: Under thy shadow we shall live among the Gentiles.”

Daniel 9:24b, 25a, 26a, 27a
“…Everlasting justice may be brought; and vision and prophecy may be fulfilled; and the saint of saints may be anointed. From the going forth of the word, to build up Jerusalem again, unto Christ the prince, there shall be seven weeks, and sixty-two weeks. And after sixty-two weeks Christ shall be slain. And he shall confirm the covenant with many…”

1 Kings 2:10
“The adversaries of the Lord shall fear him: and upon them shall he thunder in the heavens. The Lord shall judge the ends of the earth, and he shall give empire to his king, and shall exalt the horn of his Christ.”

Francis, thank you … that is the closest that I got by myself the quote about you shall name him Emmanual (God is with us).

But for all of us to have this expectation … where does that come from? Why did Jews expect a “savior” and why do Christians believe Christ is that savior that by his death the breach between God and man that occurred at the Fall was healed? THAT’s my question … where is God’s promise to us … the one that says … “We both know you screwed up, but I will send mankind someone to fix this” (for lack of a better phrasing).

Thank you Spyridon … but the quotes you have are not as specific as I was hoping for … all allude to a presence but what I was seeking to find is the part of the Bible where God promises to send a savior, a redeemer, a “fixer” who would reconcile fallen man back with God. The Jews had this expectation that “someone” was coming and Christians believe Christ WAS that someone — but where does the expectation a God-sent person will be sent to us … that is kind of what I was looking for (and was surprised I couldn’t find it in Genesis which is where I first started looking). THks!

Isaiah 53:10-11b

"But it was the LORD’s will to crush him with pain.
By making his life as a reparation offering, he shall see his offspring, shall lengthen his days,
And the LORD’s will shall be accomplished through him.

My servant, the just one, shall justify the many, their iniquity he shall bear.

Read all of Isaiah 53.
Thank you… yes it clearly (to me) is foreshadowing the passion of Christ but it’s not saying to me that God promised to send a redeemer for the purpose of “fixing” the breach … the fall of man… that’s the part I was looking for. No doubt (to me) Christ was that person, that savior … my question is when/how were we told by God to expect his coming (for the purpose of redeeming the mistake made by Adam and Eve). Thks!

Every thing is a gift of God ,During Baptism God has infused in our souls the virtues of Faith Hope and Charity James 1:17 Every best gift, and every perfect gift, is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no change, nor shadow of alteration. The Jews expected a savior to redeem them from slavery, unfortunately they where thinking of a political situation rather than saving them from slavery to sin and satan,Christians believe John 3:15-1615 That whosoever believeth in him, may not perish; but may have life everlasting.16 For God so loved the world, as to give his only begotten Son; that whosoever believeth in him, may not perish, but may have life everlasting.

Acts 4:12 There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among mortals by which we must be saved.”

Romans 5: 8 But God proves his love for us in that while we still were sinners Christ died for us. 9 Much more surely then, now that we have been justified by his blood, will we be saved through him from the wrath of God. 10 For if while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, much more surely, having been reconciled, will we be saved by his life. 11 But more than that, we even boast in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.

2 Corinthians 5:18 All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation;

Colossians 1:22 he has now reconciled in his fleshly body through death, so as to present you holy and blameless and irreproachable before him—21 And you who were once estranged and hostile in mind, doing evil deeds, 22 he has now reconciled[j] in his fleshly body[k] through death, so as to present you holy and blameless and irreproachable before him— 23 provided that you continue securely established and steadfast in the faith, without shifting from the hope promised by the gospel that you heard, which has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven. I, Paul, became a servant of this gospel.

Succinctly, where in the bible does it state that everything is in the bible?

We have a Church. She wrote a catechism.
I thought the Bible was an obvious place for us to look … since the question I’m asking predates the catholic church. The Jews had an expectation that a savior was coming … where / how did they arrive at that expectation … I’m believing “somewhere, somehow” this was communicated to them by God. So my question is … where can I find that promise?

Jews had not just the Scripture but many traditions, and not just the traditions of man I’d say.

They had a varied expectation of the Messiah, so an absolute depiction is found when that Messiah came.

Francis, thank you so much, you are finding so many passages …but I don’t believe anything in the new testament is going to be helpful as all of it testifies to Christ (which Christians IS the savior sent by God, his only son) – so that’s not what we’re trying to find. What we’re trying to find is where God promised to send someone to fix the mistake made by Adam and Eve. Thank you so much for your efforts.

"Therefore, as one trespass led to condemnation for all men, so one act of righteousness leads to justification and life for all men. For as by the one man’s disobedience the many were made sinners, so by the one man’s obedience the many will be made righteous. " - Romans 5:18-19

Pslam 2:6 But I am appointed king by him over Sion his holy mountain, preaching his commandment.7 The Lord hath said to me: Thou art my son, this day have I begotten thee.

Isaiah 9:6 For a CHILD IS BORN to us, and a son is given to us, and the government is upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called, Wonderful, Counsellor, God the Mighty, the Father of the world to come, the Prince of Peace.

A single passage won’t do the job. It’s the Bible’s main theme. It’s everywhere in the Old Testament, although it’s not super explicit. One has to know how to read in between the lines
Yes, I get that … but don’t you think that is rather strange? (At least) two major religions of the world – Judaism and Christianity – believe the sin of Adam and Eve caused a breach of trust / relationship with God and God said he’d send someone to “fix” that or heal that breach — and none of us can find where God said that? or point to something that tells us where / how we got to that understanding … that promise of redemption and salvation?? This is just vexing to me. Thks!

Therefore, as one trespass led to condemnation for all men, so one act of righteousness leads to justification and life for all men. For as by the one man’s disobedience the many were made sinners, so by the one man’s obedience the many will be made righteous. " - Romans 5:18-19
Thankyou whyeyeman… I think we’re getting closer … but again this verifies that Christ fulfilled the promise … what I was looking for was the promise itself. WHY DID the Jews believe someone was coming? I’m going to poke around Abraham… and read again the numerous as the stars part and also go look around David’s Kingdom since the messiah was promised to be of the House of David. Maybe in one of those places I will find “the promise” to mankind for redemption of Adam and Eve’s Sin as promised by God — but y’all have to admit its kind of strange we can’t put our finger on it. I’ll let you know what I find and hope you guys will as well.

Thank you for all your help.

Isaiah 11:1-5 A shoot shall come out from the stump of Jesse,and a branch shall grow out of his roots.2 The spirit of the Lord shall rest on him,the spirit of wisdom and understanding,the spirit of counsel and might,the spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord.3 His delight shall be in the fear of the Lord.He shall not judge by what his eyes see,or decide by what his ears hear;4 but with righteousness he shall judge the poor,and decide with equity for the meek of the earth;he shall strike the earth with the rod of his mouth,and with the breath of his lips he shall kill the wicked.5 Righteousness shall be the belt around his waist,and faithfulness the belt around his loins.

Isaiah 19:20 It will be a sign and a witness to the Lord of hosts in the land of Egypt; when they cry to the Lord because of oppressors, he will send them a savior, and will defend and deliver them.

Malachi 4:2 But for you who revere my name the sun of righteousness shall rise, with healing in its wings. You shall go out leaping like calves from the stall. 3 And you shall tread down the wicked, for they will be ashes under the soles of your feet, on the day when I act, says the Lord of hosts.

Habakkuk 3:13 You came forth to save your people,to save your anointed.You crushed the head of the wicked house,laying it bare from foundation to roof

WHY DID the Jews believe someone was coming?
“I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their brothers. And I will put my words in his mouth, and he shall speak to them all that I command him. And whoever will not listen to my words that he shall speak in my name, I myself will require it of him.” - Deuteronomy 18:18-19

This is a dual prophecy, one with a near fulfillment in Joshua leading the Israelites to the promised land, as well as a future fulfillment in Christ. Christ also leads people to the promised land, that is, the new Garden of Eden.

Also, Isaiah 51 is about the redemption under Christ and it says:

"The Lord will surely comfort Zion
and will look with compassion on all her ruins;
he will make her deserts like Eden,
her wastelands like the garden of the Lord.
Joy and gladness will be found in her,
thanksgiving and the sound of singing.

Listen to me, my people;
hear me, my nation:
Instruction will go out from me;
my justice will become a light to the nations.
My righteousness draws near speedily,
my salvation is on the way,
and my arm will bring justice to the nations."

This says that the world will be turned into a New Eden - I hope this is what you are looking for.

Francis and Whyeyeman … thank you both so much for sharing all the information you found. I reviewed Genesis the Fall, Abraham and the covenant and Noah and the covenant (thinking maybe it would be mentioned there) … no luck. I’m going to start rereading David and his Kingdom as the savior was promised to the House of David … so maybe there is something there… and I’ll come back and let you know if I find anything.

I probably got the closest in the Mystical City of God by Mother Mary Agreda (link to it is below) as God’s plan of salvation is more easily laid out and explained … starting with the links about the rebellion of the angels, and then the fall of man and continuing forward in salvation history. The book is from the 17th century … so while her explanation is extremely helpful, there must be an earlier record that is eluding us. Thks!
