Well said. If the poster wants to know about Shi’a legends and prejudices, maybe he should go to a Shi’a forum.

There is only one Qur’an, it has been preserved in the hearts of the Muslims. I’m sure the poster who lives in Iraq can find one without going too far. Even the Shi’a read from the exact same Qur’an.
yes the Shia read the same Quran. And the Islamic Sunni hadith say Ali had a copy of the Quran. And the Sunni hadith say that Uthman decided the orders of the chapters in the Quran and this is called Tahreef in Islam.

Ibn ’Abbas said to ’Uthman, ‘What made you combine the chapter of the Anfal and the chapter of Tawba (repentance) without separating them by the verse, “In the name of God the compassionate, the Merciful”? (And why) did you put them among the seven long (chapters)?’ ’Uthman said, ‘The chapters used to be bestowed upon the apostle of God. The chapter of Anfal was among the early ones which were revealed in Medina and the chapter of Repentance was among the last revealed. Its story was similar to the early story (of the Anfal), so I thought that it was part of it. Then the apostle of God died without showing us that it was part of the (Anfal); thus, I combined them and did not write between them the verse, “In the name of God the Compassionate, the Merciful”, and it is among the long ones."’

The order and organization of the Qur’an depended on ’Uthman’s view as he admitted to ibn ’Abbas but the Suyuti tells us in “The Itqan” that a dispute broke out among the scholars because of this verse which was revealed in some of the seven readings but not in all of them

So instead of rosy and pinky portrayal of things, why not read what your sources say.

Ibrahim al-Abyari, in “The History of the Qur’an” (3rd print, 1982, page 107). He plainly says,

“There were also other copies of the Qur’an such as the copy of Abi Musa al-Ash’ari, al-Maqdad ibn al-Aswad, and Salim the client of Abi Huthayfa. There were differences between those copies, differences which Huthayka attested to it. That frightened ’Uthman, thus he issued an order to collect the Qur’an because the Kufis followed the copy of ibn Mas’ud; the Syrians the copy of ibn Abi Ka’b; the people of Basra, the copy of Musa al-Ash’ari; the Damascenes, the copy of ibn Maqdad.”

He adds:

“Ibn Qutayba says that the differences between the recitations of the various Qur’anic copies may include the meaning also.”

Also he says:

"When Abu Bakr and ’Umar assigned Zayd ibn Thabit to compile the Qur’an, there was a previous compilation of the Qur’an made by a group of the greatest companions such as ’Ali ibn Abi Talib, ibn Mas’ud and ibn ’Abbas and others."

Sunni references talk about different Qurans previous to uthman’s copy, including Ali’s. Where is Ali’s Quran, Ali who is supposed to know more than Uthman? what about ibn Mas’ud and ibn ’Abbas who were (according to Muhammad) the most knowledgeable people in the Qur’an? Why did they not at least take their opinions? because they opposed Uthman.

In regard to the copy of ’Ali ibn Abi Talib, the Imam Khu’i says in his book, “al-Bayan”, the following:

“The existence of Imam ’Ali’s copy is an unquestionable matter. All scholars admit it and say that it contains additions which are not found in the current Qur’an. These additions are under the title of ‘The Revelation of God for the Explanation of the Intended’ (purpose).”

Khu’i drew his information from what al-Tabari had recorded in his book, “’al-Ihtijaj”’ (“Apology”).

Our scholars and legists infer from an episode recorded by the Tabari in the book of al-Ihtijaj about the existence of a Qur’anic copy compiled by the Imam ’Ali. This episode tells that ’Ali said to Talha (one of Muhammad’s relatives and companions) that every verse God bestowed upon Muhammad is in my possession, dictated to me by the apostle of God and written by the script of my hand, along with exposition of every verse and all the lawful and unlawful (issues)."

As usual, you attack without giving any response, or by saying they are Shia legends. Well no, Sunni hadith as shown above prove that Ali had a different copy, and Uthman who compliled after Ali changed it, or at least changed the orders of the chapters and here are references to SUNNI writings about Ali’s copy:

Sunni references:
  • Fat’hul Bari fi Sharh Sahih al-Bukhari, by Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani, v10,
    p386
  • al-fihrist, by (Ibn) an-Nadim, p30
  • al-Itqan, by al-Suyuti, v1, p165
  • al-Masahif, by Ibn Abi Dawud, p10

  • Ma’rifat al-Qurra’ al-kibar, by al-Dhahabi, v1, p31
Ali had the following
unique specifications:

a) It was collected according to its revelation, i.e., in the order in
which it had been sent down. This is the reason that Muhammad Ibn Sireen
(33/653 - 110/729), the famous scholar and Tabi’i (disciples of the
companions of the Holy Prophet), regretted that this transcript had not
passed into the hands of the Muslims, and said: “If that transcript were in
our hands, we would found a great knowledge in it.”

Sunni References:

  • Ansab al-ashraf, by al-Baladhuri, v1, p587

  • Ma’rifat al-Qurra’ al-kibar, by al-Dhahabi, v1, p32
It is according to this transcript that Sunni scholars relate that the
first Chapter of Quran which was revealed to Muhammad was
Chapter al-Iqra (al-Alaq, Ch. 96).

Sunni References:
  • al-Burhan, by al-Zarkashi, v1, p259
  • al-Itqan, by al-Suyuti, v1, p202
  • Fathul Bari, by Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani, v10, p417
  • Irshad al-sari, by al-Qastalani, v7, p454
As you know the Chapter al-Alaq is not at the beginning of the present Uthmanic
Quran.

Ali’s transcript also contained references about which the verses were revealed, what is called “Asbab al-
Nuzul”. Ali said “By Allah, no verse has been sent down without my knowing
about whom or what it was revealed and where it was revealed. My Lord has
gifted me with a mind which has a quick and retaining understanding, and a
tongue which speaks eloquently.”

Sunni References:
  • Hilyatul Awliyaa, by Abu Nu’aym, v1, pp 67-68
  • at-Tabaqat, by Ibn Sa’d, v2, part 2, p101

  • al-Sawa’iq al-Muhriqah, by Ibn Hajar al-Haythami, Ch. 9, Section 4, p197
So where is Ali’s Quran and why did Uthman change it? why did uthman burn Muhammad’s scribes’ Qurans? why did uthman changed the divinely revealed orders of the Quran if this is called tahreef (corruption)? why did Uthman burn the divinly revealed 7 ahruf of the Quran? why did Uthman need to change, after a dozen year and more, what was known during Ali’s time?

You know InJesus, they are not to question it or research it or analyze it and I believe that they are not going to look and read your post with an open mind and remove the islamic blinders they have on.

And they will change the “subject matter” to the discussion… 🤷

I’ve only been on this CAF forum since December and I hear the same answers from our muslim members.

Do you know what happened to Ibn Mas’ud when he opposed Uthman? The
assault on ibn Mas’ud was done in the mosque. He was assaulted by Uthman
physically, locked up, taken out of the mosque and have his ribs broken. Uthman nearly killed one of Muhammad’s best scribes because he opposed his Quran.

We ask again, if the Quran was known and compiled during Abu Bakr, Umar, Ali and Ibn mas’ud times, why did Uthman change that which they did? why did he refuse Ali’s copy? why did he burn that which Muhammad called divine revelations by 7 ahruf? did Uthman correct what Allah did if, as Muslims claim, the Quran was known and not one letter was changed?

Perhapse you should go to a library and read up on it.

i know, i’ve heard the same answers for years, and i know they are out of complete ignorance. Sister Amy calls it Shia legends when in fact the Sunni attest to what i write and sister Amy knows, or should know by now, that i do not throw words without references, but everyone can see the Muslim posters here throw words/attacks without replying, with references, to what is being said. This is the difference between academic researches and putting one’s head in the sand and shouting lalalala.

While Shi’ah are a definite minority in Islam there are many things in their tradition that makes sense. First history does seem to suggest that Ali was done wrong after the death of Mohammed. The fact that he compiled a Qu’ran before Uthman and with much less controversy, and suspicious behavior (like burning other copies) would lend its self to a more honest approach. Of course that isn’t conclusive. It just looks better.

Also Shi’ah believe in an ongoing spiritual succession through their leaders which helps to maintain proper understanding. That is a logical approach. In Christianity we have seen the problems that have arisen from a separation from spiritual authority.

rtconstant, I’ve heard they are not a definite minority. Outside of Saudi, Bahrain, UAE etc have sizeable Shia within their population. They are growing.

why didn’t Allah preserve it but instead entrusted the complilation of the Quran to those who changed/corrupted the orders of the chapters
Does it prove that both sides (Sunni & Shiite) are wrong…😉

The Shia believe that Ali was the first to compile the Quran and that he had the complete Quran which contained the information about which verse was abrogated and which was abrogating, which verse was clear and which was ambiguous , why the verses were revealed, and by which order ecc. Yet the Shia say that the present Quran does not have what existed in Ali’s copy, and that the order of verses were changed by the sahaba, knowing that changing of something from its
proper place to another place, and changing the right position of sentence which gives it a meaning other than its true or intended meaning are considered tahrif or corruption.

My question is : where is Ali’s copy and why didn’t Allah preserve it but instead entrusted the complilation of the Quran to those who changed/corrupted the orders of the chapters which might result in changing of the meaning intended.
Thank you inJESUS for starting this interesting thread. This is a subject that interests me a lot, and your research into it is excellent. Keep up the good work, and keep us informed of any new finds. Perhaps you should write paper or article some day when your research is complete, and publish it so others can benefit.

My question is : where is Ali’s copy and why didn’t Allah preserve it but instead entrusted the complilation of the Quran to those who changed/corrupted the orders of the chapters which might result in changing of the meaning intended.
It’s reported that Imam Ali (as) compiled a special transcript of the Quran which had the following qualities:
  • It was compiled in the order the revelation was received.
  • contains commentary and hidden interpretation
(Tafsir and Ta’wil) from the Holy Prophet some of which had been sent down
as revelation but NOT as a part of the text of Quran.
  • It contains around 17000 verses
  • it contains information from the Prophet about which verse was abrogated, and which is abrogating, the specific and general, the clear and ambiguous
  • it contains references to the persons, places and circumstances of revelation (asbab al-nuzul)
Imam Ali (as) presented this transcript to the rulers who came after the prophet, they rejected it, the imam concealed it and never displayed it since. This transcript was passed along from one imam to another, by imams I mean the guardians of the religion, the 12 imams from the family of the prophet. Imam Ali (as) was the first, Imam Mahdi (as) the last.

I can only speculate the reason why this transcript remained hidden is because imam Ali (as) did not want there to be two sequences of the Quran in the people’s hand.

It’s important to keep in mind that when we say the Quran has not changed, it means the integrity of the text remains, there are no additions or substractions. Everything in between the two covers is divine revelation. That being said, its meanings have been altered and chapters are in places other than their proper place.

It is necessary to emphasize here that all grand scholars of the Imami Shia
are in agreement that the Quran which is at present among the Muslims is
the very same Quran that was sent down to the Holy Prophet, and that it has
not been altered. Nothing has been added to it, and nothing is missing from
it. The Quran which was compiled by Imam Ali (excluding the commentaries)
and the Quran that is in the hand of people today, are identical in terms
of words and sentences. No word, verse, chapter is missing. The only
difference is that the current Quran (collected by the companions) is not
in the order that was revealed.

You ask where is this transcript. It is with the Imam. The 12th hidden Imam who will one day return and fill the earth with justice and equality as it has been filled with corruption and oppression.

Where is the proof of that?

The only way to proof that is to publish it on the Internet and let everyone compare the two Qurans.

Can you convince your Imams in Iran to do so…

What about the current Sheat Imams, aren’t they considered legal Imams?

It would take me some time to dig up but everything I posted earlier was taken from our hadiths.
What about the current Sheat Imams, aren’t they considered legal Imams?
Yes but the word is used in a different context and understood differently, as you know Imam simply means leader, he can be a political leader, a religious leader, a leader in a congregational prayer ect…

The Imams of Ahlul-bayt (members of the household of the prophet) are divinely appointed leaders. They are God’s representatives on the earth, and the embodiments of the Quran in flesh. The scope of their leadership is much wider and encompass every aspect of life, social, political, religious ect…
famdigy :), may YHWH shows you His true way.
Amen, you are very kind. I pray the same for you SAM

God made Quran easy to remember / memorise & it is one of reasons that Quran is uncorrupted .

Is that why different texts of it exist? They do, you know.

rtconstant, I’ve heard they are not a definite minority. Outside of Saudi, Bahrain, UAE etc have sizeable Shia within their population. They are growing.
That is interesting, I was not aware of that. While I doubt any Muslims would care about my opinion, I’ve always thought the Shi’ah had a superior position in their assertions. I doubt the opinion of a Christian carries much weight there lol, but that is how I view it.

It’s not true, what you’re saying.

Many Companions had their own masahif. And Uthman didn’t decide the orders of the chapters.
