Ok I mentioned that I am attending Mass this Saturday with my mother. Since I am a protestant, how should I conduct myself? Do I just do what everyone else is doing or just stand there?
There will be missals (books) in the pews that will reveal the general order of the mass. Page through until you find the date that you will be attending - it will be for the Sunday following, as you are attending the “vigil mass”. There may also be folded leaflets that have the prayers and creeds printed on them. You may also follow them.

The first half of the mass is the liturgy of the word, and the second half will be the liturgy of the Eucharist. Just follow your aunt and stand when everyone stands, sit when they sit, and kneel when they kneel. You will notice that some people do not go forward for communion. Those might be Catholics who need to go to confession, or they may not be Catholic, or even Christian. You will do fine.

My husband and I are converts to Catholicism from evangelical Protestantism.

We started with the Mass. We were unable to attend Sunday morning worship services at our Protestant church (due to our daughters’ skating with an elite synchronized skating team), so we started attending Saturday evening Mass at the Catholic Church down the street from our house in obedience to the Lord’s command to not forsake assembling with other Christians.

And then we got kicked out of our Protestant church, and the Mass was the way we “stayed in contact” with God and with other Christians.
Wait. Did you get kicked out of your protestant church for going to mass?

Where should a protestant even begin to start studying about the Catholic faith?
Always start with Jesus Christ, He is the one that founded His Church. Read what the first generations of Christians after the Apostles, those who were taught by the 12 Apostles that Jesus commissioned to spread His message wrote and those that followed them. They got it right from the font of The Holy Spirit and handed on what was taught them until eventually it was written down and became the books that we now have that all Christians recognize as The New Testament.

This link leads to the Didache which is the earliest teaching of the Church.
