Is there a reliable website to find out what candidates running for pres really stand for? E.G. Who is definitely against abortion, for it, economic beliefs, etc. etc.

www.votesmart.org

It shows stances on issues, endorsements by groups like National Right-to-Life (and NARAL), etc…

I have an subscription to the weekly Catholic newspaper, the “National Catholic Register,” which has had articles on the candidates, particularly on Obama, for months. If you want to keep up on the news from a Catholic viewpoint, including the presidential election, this is a good source.

Check out Priests for Life.
Been there. Done that. It seems that Fr. Pavone is no longer mentioning candidates names. You might think that this reason is to let the voters make up their own minds by voting pro-life. Not so. He does enough eluding to the candidate that he believes we should vote for as if that is our only choice. He may as well tell us who we should vote for. I’m not convinced that this is the best pro-life conservative candidate. I will vote for the candidate that I think is best and put my trust in the Lord.

The question was: Where to find info on candidates? That is a difficult question to answer without breaking board rules.

Please don’t defame Fr. Pavone. He was taking calls on an EWTN show, and a gentleman called up and asked about a specific third party candidate. Fr. Pavone said he would be a wonderful choice.

Please don’t blame the religious communities and groups for the NO NAMES or PARTY policy. The government you voted into office made the decision not to give religions free speech in the political arena. Unions, corporations etc can speak for or against issues and specific people. We can’t.

Let’s see, What was the name of that bill?

I’m glad to hear that.

Do you happen to have a link to that program?

My favorite Federal voting record site:
issues2000.org/default.htm

Includes navigation to statements made by candidates on the issues. I view the statement section with a jaundiced eye, it seems to have sacrified intellectuall honesty for ts own agenda…

What I would like personally is a major news source that gives equal or even impartial coverage of both presidential candidates (not a specifically religious news source), such as a newspaper available the internet, the internet version of a broadcast network or the like. I just became disenchanted with my usual news source when I saw that it is shamelessly spending all its time on one candidate. One with a Catholic slant would be even better, but I doubt if any major news source takes one.

Here is another useful site. It is a collection of polls and articles (mostly opinion pieces). I would say the owners of the site are on the conservative side, but the info posted is from both sides.
realclearpolitics.com/
…sorry, but it isn’t from a Catholic perspective. I think your interest in a site that is “not a specifically religious news source” but also has “a Catholic slant” is unrealistic.

Also, while you are there check out the archives over the last month or two about “Born Alive Infants Protection Act”.

Maybe we can start one? 😛

“Non-Religious Catholic Slant Daily”

Couldn’t you just apply what you know about Catholicsm to news articles that you read?
