Where would you go without the Catholic Church?

Hey everyone,

I’ve been thinking lately about where my life would go if the Catholic Church suddenly disappeared. And I’m not sure what I would do.

If the Catholic Church disappeared today? What Church would you go to? Would you join Islam? Or perhaps go to Protestanism? Become an Atheist?

Lately, I’ve been thinking about this question. Seeing as though I like to plan ahead. I was thinking that I’d join one of the Orthodox Churches, if it ever came to that. (Thank God that’s not the case), but any opinions?

That’s really weird, I was just asked a very simular question the other day.

If you lived somewhere very remote and there were no Catholic churches around for thousands of miles but if a protestant church or a mosqe were accesable would I go to them? I responded with a no and that I would set up a home alter and do my best to pray albeit solitary, I would set aside special prayer time every Sunday and pray in place of a Mass I’d be missing.

But, to answer your question, I don’t really know. IF it has existed and poof discapeared then my answer would be the same as above, but if it never existed then would I miss something that never was? Would I know better somehow and wonder aimlessly wishing for a Catholic church to be? Hard to say really, but I just can’t imagine it really LOL No matter how hard I try because It (the Catholic Church) and Jesus Christ are so linked I find it hard to separate and omit the Church part.

I suppose it would be a lot like before Jesus established the Church, so who knows maybe I’d be Jewish! LOL

What happened to me if the earth disappeared suddenly under my feet?
 
So weird. I was just thinking about this last night. It scared me to death, actually, when the thought crossed my mind.

I honestly don’t know what I would do. I suppose I wouldn’t join any other church, and just keep practicing what I know by myself. Try to be a good, charitable person.

Concur.

If other Christian faith bodies remained, I’d join one of them; if not, Judaism; never Islam.
 
For the Catholic Church to disappear, I think that every Catholic would have to disappear.

What was the early Church, if not simply believers who gathered together in their homes?

I totally agree. And it was comforting to know that as long as a single Catholic remains alive on the earth, so will the church.

I agree. And there have been times when, in different parts of the world, the Church was suppressed and there were no churches or sacraments, except when a priest would occasionally be able to go to these places. There were those, too, who risked their lives to have Mass said in their homes by a priest, or somewhere in the outdoors, as happened in Ireland.

In Japan, too, there was a time when there were no churches or priests to offer Mass except rarely, but they kept the faith. And on the Island of South Uist in the Hebrides of Scotland, they kept the faith after the reformation even with no churches or priests. They just baptized their children themselves. And when these simple but devout people were threatened with eviction if they did not convert to Protestantism, they chose eviction, and were forced to go to an unknown country - Canada.

I would not go to a non-Catholic church if a Catholic church was not available, but that’s just me. 🙂
 
I was tempted to answer “to Hell,” but that seems to avoid the spirit of the question.

An Orthodox church, if they would have me.

I am afraid it would be worse than that. If the Catholic Church completely ceased to be, that would be the end of the possibility of salvation. It would make Jesus existence and promises meaningless, and as as St. Paul exclaimed to the Corinthians, we would be the most miserable of all men.

No Catholic Church, means no true Jesus Christ, no grace and no salvation!

Life would be pointless, and death even more so.

At best, we could maybe become Jews, for all Christianity would be proven false if the one Catholic Church did not have the perpetuity promised by Jesus (Mat 16:18).

I believe if the CC dissapeared i can assure you is because she will be in Heaven. Jesus has come and took His people with Him. No need to go anywhere.

If not Catholic, definitely Orthodox.
