Anyone use a paraphrase, like the Message, or a simple language Bible with children?

The Church of England’s daily prayer site uses the AV for its Traditional Language Offices (with the classic Coverdale psalter) but which version are they using for modern language? Can’t tell.
Yes, the Egermeier’s Bible Story Book.

I haven’t yet personally used The Message except for glancing at it. I do know of a local UCC church though where the NRSV is used on Sundays and The Message is used at their more contemporary service on Saturday nights. Also another UCC pastor informed me she uses the NRSV in sermons but at times turns to The Message during her sermons when a Scripture is difficult and a better understanding is needed.

I use both the NIV and NLT. The NIV was popular when I first became a Christian in the 1980s and the student Bible fellowship I belonged to was using it.

I have many different translations, and use most of them sometimes, but the NRSV is my current “go to” translation. I also like the NASB, ESV, TNIV and The Message for particular purposes.

Douay Rheims and the KJV w\apocrypha. I have numerous other translations, but these are my favorite.

I’m currently in my yearly read through of the DR, and it’s growing on me again. I had been away from it for a while, but am again finding it the best of all worlds. Old world language, minimal, yet VERY Catholic notes and book headers. Yeah, I think I’m going back to it for the rest of my days. 🙂

I have used the Catholic RSV since I was 20. It is the only Bible I have been given directly from God, and I truly believe He led me to it. It was just there about to be thrown in a rubbish bin (by me) but I couldnt do that even though I was raised very very very anti-Catholic so I took it and I read it and read it and read it and couldnt put it down. I believe that moment was the start of my very long journey leading me home (which is a reference to your post-title “Which Bible did you use to find home”).

Many times I found myself in long Protestant discussions about the “meaning” of a verse, what does this version say and what does that version say and I found my Catholic RSV had a translation that didn’t require “meaning” to be derived from it. Just read it as it is written and its meaning is obvious and transparent.

I realize this is a matter of personal opinion, but for me nothing will ever be better than the Catholic RSV.

N.A.B, St. Joseph Edition. My wife has the K.J.B but it gives her a headache so she steals mine (what a sinner!)

This should have contained a Poll.!
Can we re-start with a Poll?
