In any case, I’m a fan of The Jerusalem Bible.
Code:
Mother Angelica uses the JB, which i like as well;
i also like the Navarre Bible which includes the
Latin and excellent commentary.

Wonderful! The RSV-CE is my absolute favorite version, but I have yet to see a well made copy. I keep the Ignatius paperback version with me at work as a “back-up”. I currently use a St. Joseph’s NASB with leather cover for most of my bible reading. Would love to have a beautiful version of the RSV-CE. Sign Me Up!!Mainly the NASB and the Ignatius RSV-CE. I have many others.
Just found out a few days ago from Ignatius that they plan on coming out with a newly typeset RSV-CE in about four months.
The Navarre Bible also uses the RSV-CE. It contains commentary from the ECF’s, and from Jose Maria Escriva. It’s published by Scepter and they will finish with the last two volumes later this year.And of course, from the rave reviews it’s gotten here I’d like to pick up the RSV-CE aka Ingantius Bible.
They should give you a 10% off discount when you buy a Protestant bible. Kind of prorate the feewhen I read the Bible, I take out the complete one with all the books in it.![]()
Ignatius is in the process of compiling a study bible edited by Scott Hahn. Like the Navarre Bible did, they are releasing it book by book as they are completed, and go for about $10 a book. So far they have the Gospels, Acts, Romans, and I-II Corinthians. When they are completed it will make an excellent study Bible.JMJ
Catholic Answers is selling the Ignatius Bible and they recommend it for Catholics, but does the Ignatius Bible come in a Study Bible. If it does I’ll probably get it
Actually the NAB translation is a very good modern bible its a lot better than the NIV and NLT which are protestant equivalents.I’m going to use this thread to give some publicity to my good friend Catherine and say: www.redegg.org is the super-duperest online Bible ever. I mean it. Check out the “Help” file- it owns, dude.I heard bad things about the NAB.
Well yes, I meant the notes. But it seems to me that if you’re going to get a Bible, you might as well get one with notes that are worth reading : ).Actually the NAB translation is a very good modern bible its a lot better than the NIV and NLT which are protestant equivalents.
The problem with the NAB are the notes they can be downright borderline heretical at times. They reflect the thinking of mainline liberals more than traditional catholic scholarship. I think you have to go to the Navarre of Ignatius Study Bible series to get that.
