Which Bible or Bibles, do you use?

Ok for starters, the Vulgate , during it’s 1000 years from Jerome to the D/R was updated many times. Second, the Greek used in NT times was not the same as the Greek in Jeromes time, it had changed somewhat. Third, the Vulgate is itself a translation from Hebrew and Greek to Latin, that makes the D/R a translation of a translation. Fourth, the D/R itself has been updated several times in it’s 400 years. Fifth, the English Language has not stood still in the last 400 years. Sixth, there is a difference between UK English and North American English.

My thoughts, just for starters.

May I repeat myself? Easy to say, hard to prove.
I’m with you. I know all the arguments, Jerome closer to the origin, etc. But I find it hard to argue that the DRC (I’ve never seen a non-Challoner Douay) is more accurate to the Greek and Hebrew than a modern formal equivalence version like the RSV or ESV.

Which Bible or Bibles, do you use? And, how did you decide, which Bible it was that you were going to use?
I go for a general combination of readability and translation. In that regard I often use the ESV, although I also use the NASB from time to time. Then I have an interlinear Greek New Testament by Mounce that I adore. 😃

For study, i use the RSV-CE2, but I cross-reference with several different translations. I am still trying to find a good Bible for personal reflection. (My Spiritual Director recommended this. He suggested the Jerusalem Bible). Any ideas?

I too own a copy of the JB and the New JB. Believe it or not for my reflection I use the Good News Translation due to the fact it is easy to read.

BTW: It does contain the 7 Deutor books…👍

I know there are issues, but I grew up with the KJV, and I actually have a copy of the deuterocanonicals from that translation as well. So I might go that route, since I like the older language structure. But if I do that, i might as well buy a D-R.

Remember the old saying: The best Bible is the one you are going to read.

I read mainly from the NJKV and the RSV-CE 2nd edition.
