Which Bible to read

I’ve noticed that a lot of Protestants will use that term exclusively to refer to the deuterocanonical books, without giving a second thought to books that Catholics also find apocryphal. Similar to how a lot of Protestants always use the term Roman Catholic or romanism, even when talking to Eastern Catholics.

I think the Church recommends newer translations as they incorporate updated scholarship. Examples are NABRE, NRSV-CE, and RJNB.

What I did was get an affordable hardcover version of NABRE for historical commentaries, a copy of the Catholic Prayer Bible (which uses NRSV-CE) for reflection, and the Daily Roman Missal for daily readings and liturgy.

Meanwhile, I’ll be waiting for the latest version of NABRE, which will involve coordination with the Vatican, and should be accepted for personal and liturgical use.

There are also plans for an updated edition of NRSV. Hopefully, a Catholic ed. will be produced from that which will also involve coordination with the Vatican.
 
Does anyone have the Ignatius RSV CE app with the added Catholic Study Bible (19.99). If so, is the Study Bible the same as the book?
 
For the most part - the best Bible to have is the one which one shall Prayerfully Read / Study

Begin with the Gospels - so as to understand all via the Mind of Jesus

You & i must be kindred spirits because I have that website on my smartphone 😆.

I meant the Haydock Bible. I have 2 Douay-Rheims Bibles but never saw a Haydock Bible. From what I’ve read it has commentary from the Fathers & Doctors of the Church on every page.
 
The New King James Version is the New Testament version used in the Orthodox Study Bible.

Why would an Orthodox bible use a Protestant version of the NT?
 
The New King James Version is a pretty good translation. When I was into Roman Catholic apologetics I stayed away from the KJV and NKJV only because the top “pop” Catholic apologists made it seem so horrible. When I got my Orthodox Study Bible and actually read the NKJV, I was very impressed.
