Which book of the bible helps you believe in God

I’ve read through the bible once and am going through it again. I am by no means an expert but I remember when I first read through it Romans stood out to me. I would also pray to God to fill you with the Holy Spirit and ask Jesus/Holy Spirit to direct you to the passage you need to read for whatever you are going through. When I do this from a very sincere heart I always open the bible to a random page and read exactly what I need to hear. Give it a try 😉
 
I find it hard to answer this question, since the Bible fits together and we need to take it all in,

I think Genesis is the starting point and needs to be carefully understood to interpret all that follows.
 
I take the first sentence of the Bible to be an absolute truth, 'In the beginning; God created the heavens and the Earth. The rest of the Bible is a lifetime journey for hope, inspiration and encouragement. If you are searching for God; you have to do something.
 
I frequently return to the Gospel of John. The prologue is a favourite and I love how detailed the Gospel is in describing the different scenes and the Theology.

The Psalms is another “go to book”.
 
The book of Hebrews is a good one to strengthen your faith. So is St. Paul’s epistle to the Romans. My favorite gospel is the gospel according to St. John.
 
You will not believe in God by reading the Bible. That is not the purpose of the Bible.
 
John 6:44 "No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up on the last day.

There is no one answer to your question MasterHaster. There are many ways in which God draws us to Him. It could be by Word, by deed, or by a miracle. Most everyone has their own unique story.

God can certainly speak to you through scriptures. The main thing is to not try to read it beginning to end. Genesis is good then the gospel, I would start with Mark. God bless.
 
Remember that for centuries no one owned a bible, or could have even read it in the first place. It was not until the modern printing press made mass production possible that the average person could afford one. And it wasn’t until the public school system, which is only a few centuries old, made it possible for the average person to read it.

I was in love with God long before I ever read my own bible. Scripture is good, but not essential to the life of faith. If you are struggling then by all means immerse yourself in Job. I highly recommend James as well as Proverbs. They tell you how to live your faith from day to day.

The Bible is a book written for believers not unbelievers. If it speaks to someone, there is already a vestige of faith.
 
The Psalms. It’s my favorite book of the Bible. It’s got so much wisdom in it; page after page, chapter after chapter. Psalm 51 is especially interesting. It was David’s response after sleeping with Bathsheba.
 
All the books of the Bible have value. Personally, in the OT I especially like Tobit and Daniel.
 
Yes it is, but first a person has to find a belief in God, the creator of all things. This we can come to know through our reason.
 
For me it was Romans 5:8 “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

Let’s face it, hardly anyone would be willing to die for a very good person, even someone considered a “Saint”.

However let’s consider who would be willing to die for an evil person? Who would be willing to take the just punishment that an evil person rightly deserves? No one, I would say.

Well God took it. I have seen Mel Gibson’s crucifixion movie (The Passion of Christ I believe it’s called), I’ve seen many people leave before the film finished, they just could not stand to see any more punishment done to Christ. Many others were just crying and sobbing just by looking at the brutal punishment given to Christ.

I am 100% sure His real crucifixion was even worse than that which we see in the movie. I do not believe there is any stronger proof of His love than by meditating on His sorrowful crucifixion.

I was late in coming to appreciate the Old Testament, but it is amazing. You know the Christian story, so with that knowledge I’d suggest you dive into the Old Testament and let it wash over you.
 
I actually agree. Christ comes to us in the flesh: the written or spoken testimony comes afterward.
 
I wouldn’t over-philosophize it, though. A loving person who is selflessly kind to another, especially to the point of their own self-danger, is in my experience the most powerful beginning point for a person’s conversion to Christ. Sincere friendship is also another one.
 
First, go before Christ in the Blessed Sacrament and tell him your doubts, fears, weakness. Then, be as patient with Him as He has been with you. When you become aware that He is there, you will be changed.

As to a book, one which reveals God’s love and mercy is the Book of Tobit. It has been called a mini-Job and encapsulates virtually every human experience in it. I much prefer the versions translated from Saint Jerome’s Latin Vulgate, as they are more warm and human. They are in the Douay-Rheims and Knox bibles, both accessible online.
