Which book of the Old Testament is your favourite?

Hi,

I like the book of Judges. The judges that GOD used to save the children of Israel were different in sex, in ability & in their attitude toward GOD. Our Lord can make use of any person who is ready to serve him & to act according to GOD’s will.

I like the Psalms. The Psalms have always brought peace and comfort to me.

Difficult question. I tend to go by stories, rather than by book.

My favourite stories would have to be, in no particular order:

Elijah vs. Ahab and the Prophet’s of Baal (absolutely gangsta)
Sampson (again, absolutely gangsta)
Marriage of Isaac and Rebekah
Jael (likewise, gangsta)
Creation and the Garden of Eden (can be reinterpreted in many ways)
Ruth and Boaz

The first five books (Pentateuch) is Deuteronomy. 🙂

The other books in the OT would be Daniel,Isaiah,Psalms + others.
 
That’s a very difficult question. But if I had to give you an answer, it would simply be the whole Bible. The whole Bible is inspirational,and beautiful. And every single book makes it both inspirational and beautiful.
 
I have been enjoying Sirach. Mostly because it’s something new that I didn’t have in my ‘old’ bible.

Christ and his Church, The Holy Spirit and Mary…

His left hand is under my head
and his right arm embraces me.

Divine nuptuals, fulfilled when the Holy Spirit overshadowed Our Lady, and again when Christ will stand at the door and knock as in Revelation. What’s not to love?

and Ruth, which has the most wonderful verse:

Absolutely. I LOVE Isaiah, so poetic, with a clear message of Christ’s coming. I love hearing the book read especially at Christmas.

Job is my favorite. It examines the tragedy of good things happening to bad people. I used to lead a great books discussion group, and the first discussion dealt with Job. It stands as a masterpiece by itself without depending on its connection with the bible and Christianity.

One of our Deacons who has done many marriage ceremonies loves Tobit as well and often has readings from Tobit included in the ceremony. It’s an amazing story and lovely poetic in its language.

Ruth and all the wisdom literature, though I do love the story of David and Nathan (among others).

I always used to like Daniel (the impending doom) but I do like Zechariah and Malachi as I seem drawn to them but don’t know exactly why yet.

They speak of the Catholic Church, though in veiled language. Could that have something to do with it?
 
Genesis and Sirach. Genesis because I love the story of telling and how morality reveals itself through God’s revelations to many of the Holy Prophets. Sirach because Jesus Bin Sira’s insight is thought provoking and applicable to everyday life.
 
The Book of Job, without any doubt: it tells it how it is – bloody awful and you have to put up with it. And it was written by civil servants not priests; always an advantage.
 
I actually have 2 favorite books in the Old Testament. Job and Psalms. I hadn’t realized this until you asked. Job was instrumental in my understanding of suffering and a constant faith in the Lord. Psalms is a beautiful collection of poems praising God. They lift up my heart and fill it with Love.
