So, what’s your point? I do not disagree with you, I am simply stating that St. Paul said this about homosexuals, I do not know who is going to hell and that homosexual sex is nasty and life-threatening. What part do you NOT agree with? Do you have homosexual issues?
I have issues with professing Christians (Catholics, Orthodox, Protestants, Anglicans, etc) who appear to practice a “Christless Christianity” or a “graceless Christianity”. Saint Paul said quite a bit, but you need to understand Paul in light in all that he wrote and his obession of the gospel of God (Christ and Him crucified for sinners). I am not a homosexual and have been blessed by God with a godly and very attractive wife of 22 years. Does that make me more righteous than a homosexual… of course not because I am a wretched sinners saved by grace alone by the merit of Christ.

No, I am a Catholic and therefore my “denomination” (Catholicism is not a denomination) does not support gay marriage.

Moreover, is Gay Marriage morally wrong?

Your Thoughts?
Marriage is a Sacrement. This makes it an institution of God. Scripture tells us that marriage is between a man and a woman. This in my view makes gay marriage an oxy moron. Having said that, do I believe that two people of the same sex can live together, have sex together and live as a married couple even though they cannot be married? I would again say no. I say this because the Scriptures outline for us how it is that a married couple should live and in no way could a same sex arrangement take the place of this. Sex outside of marriage is either fornication or it is adultery (for someone who is married but has sex with another besides their spouse).

Now, having said this, do I believe that a same sex couple should be able to have the right to live together, have civil rights the same as married people and have health insurance etc. together? My answer there is yes. Why? It simply in my eyes is the separation of church and state. I strongly oppose it just as God strongly opposes evil, but he gives us the freedom to choose. I believe that if a gay person has the freedom to live with another but chooses to live a life of not having sex, it is a resounding yes to God. Jesus tells us to give Caesar what is his and give God what is God’s. I think that there is alot to be said here.

That’s all very nice and everything, but your point (if there is a point) is lost on me. I do not disagree with you. I was asked if I thought that teen-age “gays” go to hell. I answered that I do not know who goes to hell, but that St. Paul condemned homosexuality. Are you following me so far? If one dies with unrepented-of mortal sin on one’s soul, then one is in danger of hellfire. But I am not the judge. God is.

Please help me understand the Catholic Faith. Are you implying that sexual sin commited by homosexuals is considered mortal sin, and sexual sin commited by hetrosexuals is not considered mortal sin?

Did not say that. I said “If one dies with unrepented-of mortal sin on one’s soul, then one is in danger of hellfire”. I did not specify “sexual” sin. Please do not attempt to put words into my mouth.

Well said and I agree with you. The thing that sticks in my craw is that “Gays” and Lesbians (herein afterward referred to as “Sodomites”) are attempting to take unto themselves an ancient and noble office proper only to a Man and a Woman and twist it into something that it is not. It also sticks in my craw that the sodomites are attempting to convince the world that the deviance that they practice is somehow “normal” and merely “an alternative lifestyle.” It is not “normal”, it is an abberation. Do not attempt to pee on my leg and tell that it’s raining. That is my primary complaint with the “Gay” agenda.

I think that in the larger scheme of life, the evil one does much to add insult to injury if you will in many issues of life including racism, politics and of course homosexuality and all that it entails. People tend to forget that everything that happens in this world since the Great Fall is subject to imperfection, error and inconsistants beyond our explanation and comprehension. I cannot blame gays and lesbians for wanting to normalize their situation. I don’t believe for a minute that they ever would choose to be the way they are. What seems apparent to me is that Satan and the sinfulness that runs rampant in this world has done much to muddy the waters concerning this subject and many others. We need to pray for our world and those (including ourselves) that are tainted by it every single day. The only way we can do those good works that accompany a solid faith in Christ is to let Christ live in us. We can’t do it alone.

It is not possible to “normalize” something that is intrinsically disordered.

I agree. My point here being that I believe most homosexuals have inwardly good intentions despite the disordered state of being and actions in which they are involved. In other words, the evil one has done a fantastic job of blurring this.

I just wanted to go on record and say that this thread is exactly why I am so upset at ELCA right now.

I will say this once and only once:

Any so-called “Lutheran” church body that advocates homosexual marriage has abandoned Lutheranism entirely.

To do so flies in the face of nearly every Lutheran teaching on what scripture is supposed to mean, the proper way to deal with sin in this world, and it undermines the very basis of what makes us Lutheran.

Lutherans do not support gay marriage.

I’m not Catholic, so I can’t understand all that your write without clarification. We are discussing homosexuality on a gay marriage thread and you mentioned mortal sin. Maybe you can educate me about your Catholic Faith. What are the mortal sins?

“Hell is full of good intentions or desires.”

All sin is displeasing to God, but the “mortal” sins are those which tend to separate the soul from God in a particularly serious manner. They have traditionally been “Lust”, “Gluttony”, “Greed”, “Sloth”, “Wrath”, “Envy”, and “Pride”. Keeping in mind that there are many iterations of these seemingly few sins. Lust leading to sexual sins, Gluttony leading to sins which damage our bodies, Sloth leading to failure to provide for self and others, Wrath, leading to murder and war, Envy, leading to Greed, Pride, presuming on the providence of God. But as you can see, these sins can be compounded and magnified endlessly, but I think that you get the picture.

Okay, so would you agree that God does not discriminate with lust leading to sexual sins regardless of being heterosexual or homosexual lust? So, if Jesus said that we commit adultery when we look at women lustfully, we have committed a mortal sin as heterosexual sinners?

Lust

“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body be thrown into hell. And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body go into hell.
Jesus

You are attempting to derive something out of my statement that is not there. Please re-read the original post.

It is YOU who needs to read the bible more, because if you have Everyone knows that God WAS a mean God in the OT. WHY DON’T YOU READ IT!!! And those are your ridiculous words saying I think Jesus is a cool hippie or something. Stop putting words in my mouth Lutheran. It doesn’t take a theologian genius to figure it out…
No everyone does not know that at all. God is incapable of being mean. He cannot have that attribute. What you may perceive to be mean is the result of an incomplete understanding of Divine justice.

Did you know the term Sodomite is not in the Bible, especially in the way that you use it. A Sodomite would simply be a resident of the City of Sodom. I challenge you to study the account of Sodom and Gomorrah and list for us the sins of Sodom according to Scripture. As a hint, look in the book of Ezekiel as well as a quote by Jesus in regards to the sins of Sodom… according to the Holy Bible. Since we worship the God of Abraham, Issac, and Jacob, please let me know what their marriages looked like in light of traditional family values between a man and a woman.
