Now hold on here a minute. None of you can show a shread of evidence that the Roman Catholic church was the Early Church. I can see him pressing any and all of you for the information and all you can do is be strength in numbers upon one Protestant. But not one of you has answers; it’s just more of the same lame arguments about being ignorant of Catholic faith and so on and so on. Put your money where your mouth is if you are expecting everyone else to.
Yes, absolutely we can indeed prove that the Roman Catholic Church is in line with the early church.
First of all, the notions of the Eucharistic sacrifice shown in the Didache are respected and offered in the RCC.
The Eucharist, real, not symbolic, the true presence of Christ, His flesh and blood, are spoken of by the early fathers Clement, Polycarp and Ignatius. We still teach and celebrate this Eucharist.
Confession is spoken of by the Fathers. We practice this belief.
A high honor and adoration for Mary is spoken of by the fathers. No one adores and loves Mary like the RCC and EO.
Rome is spoken of highly in the NT as a prestigious church and especially by the early Fathers, Ignatius and Clement.
Matthew 16 most obviously names Peter as the head of the Church. Peter founded the Church of Rome, you know that already.
The Roman Catholic Church single-handedly carried Christianity through the sacking of Rome by the barbarians into a frightening and uncharted world of the Middle Ages. It was Rome that preserved Christ’s teachings and made Christians of the barbarians. Most (not all) of Western Europe was made Christian through the power of the papacy.
Read the countless commentaries by saints like Cyrprian, Ambrose, Augustine, Justin Martyr, Clement, Polycarp, on and on and on and on and if you can’t see that Rome held a preeminence and highest place of honor in Christendom, then there’s nothing left I can say. You just haven’t done the reading and haven’t looked at history with clarity or honesty.
Of COURSE there are more Catholics in here than protestants, SIA!! IT’S A CATHOLIC FORUM!! What do you expect?? Do you expect everyone in here to LIKE the Church being insulted and ripped-on by people who are ignorant of her teachings? Seriously, man?
It’s like going onto a San Francisco Giants board and being shocked at them getting angry at the insults of the Dodgers fan! Come on!!
Catholicism has trucked along for 2,000 years proudly protecting the fullness of Christ’s teachings boldly. It hasn’t changed. It doesn’t bend to the whims of society as protestantism does. That drives some people crazy. Sorry about that. It is a stubborn faith, stubborn for Jesus and it doesn’t bend.
Catholicism offers so MUCH to the Christian—7 sacraments, like medicine for a troubled, sick soul. Confession as a shot in the arm to take away sins, the Papacy for sure doctrine so one doesn’t drift into his own arrogant world of creating his OWN Jesus, Mary the Mother of Christ who leads us to her Son, saints praying for us endlessly, liturgy that gives glory to God, oh and heck it also preserved and created much of Western Civilization as well as preserved and protected the works of the classical age of the ancient Greeks, Romans, and scholastics…
Have you ever ONCE had anything GOOD to say about Catholicism, SIA?? Seriously!
If you read my posts, many times I have complimented protestantism and have discussed its role in western civilization, its great contributions, and its strengths. But not ONCE have I heard you say anything good about the faith that most in this forum profess. Why do you come in here, I guess that’s my question? Perhaps you’re searching and you suspect the faith that you turned your back on IS the real deal and deep down you do respect it. That’s my suspicion. I know because when I left Catholicism to be an Anglican, I talked a big talk about how lousy Rome was and how I didn’t believe in the papacy and how I didn’t give a DANG what the popes or saints had to say. My Anglicanism was a reaction to my anger at Catholicism. Over time I realized that my OWN UNWILLINGNESS to OBEY was at the heart of my leaving the Tiber for the Thames. Thank goodness the Holy Spirit revealed this to me and I came back. I pray that you’ll do the same someday. God bless.
