I often refercto the Lion handbookvto the bible, that is the explanation given there. Also my daughter is doing a theology degree and when I discussed it with her she also said that it was referring to the law at the time nothing to do with contraception. Its seems its a catholic belief
Again you decline to respond to the specifics.

You asked me from what source I got my information, I told you.
Just a shame your sources could not address the question I put to you on multiple occasions - why the punishment meted out was far more severe than the law prescribed.

In the notes in the bible I am reading it says that a contemporary interpretation is that onan was guily of masturbation but that there is no evidence for such an idea. It is not clear

Not in my opinion, and most catholics agree. The church is totally obsessed with sexual matters. There are far more serious things to worry about… Glad ive left a church run by a bunch if men who have no ideacof life in the real world.
Think about this. The Church is the voice to the culture on matters of the faith and morality. If the culture weren’t so obsessed with sexual immorality, then the Church wouldn’t need to address it much at all. How many “issues” facing the Church in today’s culture aren’t just beating up on the Church over sexual morality doctrine which the culture simply won’t accept? BY watching the media, sexual morality issues are virtually ALL that is being brought to the steps of the Vatican for serious discussion, with the culture in fact trying to get the Church to change doctrine which can’t be changed. It infuriates people. It is not the Church obsessed. It is the Church discussing with the culture the very things they wish to talk about. I don’t see people taking to the street over abstaining from mean on Friday’s, or the communion of Saints, or Purgatory, or moving important feast days to the closest Sunday, or anything else like that. It is the culture which is obsessed with the Church’s stance and intransience on sexual immorality.

It is not sexually immoral to contracept.

Yes it is gravely contrary to the virtue of Chastity.

                                                          Humanae Vitae
  1. It is in fact justly observed that a conjugal act imposed upon one’s
partner without regard for his or her condition and lawful desires is not
a true act of love, and therefore denies an exigency of right moral order
in the relationships between husband and wife. Likewise, if they consider
the matter, they must admit that an act of mutual love, which is
detrimental to the faculty of propagating life, which God the Creator of
all, has implanted in it according to special laws, is in contradiction
to both the divine plan, according to whose norm matrimony has been
instituted, and the will of the Author of human life. To use this divine
gift destroying, even if only partially, its meaning and its purpose is
to contradict the nature both of man and of woman and of their most
intimate relationship, and therefore it is to contradict also the plan of
God and His will. On the other hand, to make use of the gift of conjugal
love while respecting the laws of the generative process means to
acknowledge oneself not to be the arbiter of the sources of human life,
but rather the minister of the design established by the Creator. In
fact, just as man does not have unlimited dominion over his body in
general, so also, with particular reason, he has no such dominion over
his generative faculties as such, because of their intrinsic ordination
towards raising up life, of which God is the principle. “Human life is
sacred,” Pope John XXIII recalled; “from its very inception it reveals
    the creating hand of God.”[13]
God Bless

I am impressed with the support for Gay and Lesbian relationships!!! This is good to see people stating the obvious and supporting their brothers and sisters. God is really in the House 🙂

I have to say that Divorce is a tough one because so many people use it to get out of a relationship for soooooooo many reason. I have toughed it out 23 years with my wife and it has not been easy. She is Bi-Polar and refuses treatment and had a problem for many years with monogamy. I have taken so many lumps and bumps it is incredible to see I am still married and of course I am not an easy person to live with either at times. I think that a priest should be given the right to elect an annulment instead of it floating around the Dioceses until the Bishop can review it. That way it would make it much more accessible. I do not want or wish to see more annulments, but there are a lot of times that you can not stop the other in a Divorce and that leaves you out in the cold. That is not right.

I do accept birth control but not abortion. I am sorry I feel it is better to stop things from happening instead of after the situation reverts to an abortion. I know the Church dislikes birth control immensely and a wrong can never make a right. It just seems that birth control ceases the need for abortion. Not producing the eggs vs. killing a fertile egg with an embryo in it. The latter is the crime.

Finally, I have a problem with the belief that hell is a final stop for those refusing to accept God. I believe even though I am told again and again I am wrong, the God never gives up on us!!! EVER!!! We are made to mess up and this world pushes us to run from God. If a person fails to serve God and renounces him in life, but then sees how wrong he was in death, there should still be away that his or her time in hell is not eternity if the person is sincere and willing to truly repent, even at a later time. The God I believe in truly does not allow a soul truly willing to repent to wither in hell.

Thank you.

If a man died childless his brother was duty bound to produce heirs with his widow. It was to do with rightful inheritance, nothing to do with masturbation or contraception.
Deutronomy 25 (DRB)

5 When brethren dwell together, and one of them dieth without children, the wife of the deceased shall not marry to another: but his brother shall take her, and raise up seed for his brother:
6 And the first son he shall have of her he shall call by his name, that his name be not abolished out of Israel.
7 But if he will not take his brother’s wife, who by law belongeth to him, the woman shall go to the gate of the city, and call upon the ancients, and say: My husband’s brother refuseth to raise up his brother’s name in Israel: and will not take me to wife.
8 And they shall cause him to be sent for forthwith, and shall ask him. If he answer: I will not take her to wife:
9 The woman shall come to him before the ancients, and shall take off his shoe from his foot, and spit in his face, and say: So shall it be done to the man that will not build up his brother’s house:
10 And his name shall be called in Israel, the house of the unshod.

The penalty of that was not death

So, no hell then? Sweeet.

God does not give up on us, true. We give up on Him. You have until your dying breath to change and that is more than fair. Good luck.

You may get some extra brownie points for putting up with your wife.

GOD was asked why He did not create people who could find cures for cancer
and aids. He replied, “I did but you aborted them.”

This could happen with contraception as well. Miscarriages are in God’s plan; contraception is in Satan’s plan.

God Bless
