SDAgirl if I was not clear, Mainline SDA are orthodox concerning the Trinity, it was “independent SDA” groups that I was talking about.

Hello. I’m an Adventist and I can say that we do not believe that the Son wasn’t a part of creation. I’m not sure where this idea came from. We do have our roots in Unitarianism, but roots in the 1800’s does not identify our religion now. Everyone has their ROOTS somewhere. You can be rooted in Satanism, and come to know God and believe. Am I right?
SDA Girl:

I was an SDA for 30 years before converting to Catholicism. Since the early 1900s, the SDA denomination has embraced the Trinity, which means that Jesus is God and Eternal, i.e. He never had a beginning, so He was not part of creation. Prior to the early 1900s, the SDA denomination did not accept the Trinity.

So I’m a little confused when you say that “we do not believe that the Son wasn’t a part of creation”.

As for your Unitarian roots, yes the Unitarians did influence the infant SDA denomination, but so did the Methodists, and others, so I wouldn’t stress any one denomination’s influence too much.

I didn’t think the Unitarians had any real, set doctrine…don’t they toss all the religions together into a blender and hit the ‘pulse’ button a bunch of times.
I visited a Unitarian Universalist Church a few times at a friends request. Their doctrines consisted of:
  1. Be happy (Hymns were even like “Oooo I’m so happy!” )
  2. Be nice to others
  3. Recycle
  4. Whatever you believe about god(s)(esses) etc is fine.
They rotated their sermons to cover each major religion and were very PC.

While many of the people I met there didn’t believe in teh Trinity, Satan etc. They also wouldn’t try to convince other they are right it would violate doctrines 2. and 4. So I’d bet it wasn’t a unitarian Universalist that the OP was tlaking with.
