Which do you fear more:

A. Foreign terrorism (an act like 9-11)
B. Domestic terrorism (a person using an assault-type weapon in a public place)
C. An economic recession or depression
D. A weather event (tornado, hurricane, wild fire)
E. Natural disaster (earthquake, tsunami)
F. Other

All things considered, I have no control over any of those things. What I do more or less have control over is my eternal outcome (via my choices and actions). So, F. Damnation.

Why live in constant fear of things you can’t control?

Natural disaster. It’s more likely and impactful than other choices.

In my area that would be a major earthquake. Will the house collapse on me? Will it strike while I’m at work (60 miles from home) and destroy infrastructure that’d permit me to return home. What about my parents? Etc.

The other choices are such low probability events they don’t warrant much concern. Except for recession, but that’s what savings are for.

F. Other
What I did not list was war.
Over the years, our country has been involved in wars in Korea, Viet Nam, Kuwait, Iraq, Afghanistan, and Syria, to name a few.
I did not know why we were in any of these wars.
I do not we accomplished much of anything by being in these wars.
Now, I fear that we will go to war with Iran.

Unlike previous wars, the next war will include attacks on the mainland. Mostly crippling cyber attacks.

I hope I have your strength, or that my wife will🙏

C.

The world economy is a house of cards, and it will fall hard; Great Depression II.

Some good will come from it. Maybe a lot of good. I’m an optimist.

F. >>> I fear the growth of socialism & communism growth in America above all things.

I fear none of these.
My biggest fear is that we have lost our humanity. Life is becoming a “choice” not a right.
Between abortion, euthanasia, suicide, and criminal violence (I.e. shootings, stabbings, beatings, etc), is is easy to see that there is little to no “respect” for any life.

I fear none of that. Fear is a good response to actual threats, but can become (or be a symptom of) a cognitive/psychological disorder if the fear is of a hypothetical or imaginary event.

p.s. what about bombings, no matter the cause? Timothy McVeigh/Boston marathon etc., for example.

This reminds me of the little old lady who was pulled over because of a burned out tail light. The cop said, “I see you have a concealed carry license. Are you carrying a gun now?”

“Why, yes, young man. I have this .38 Special in my purse . . and a .45 automatic in the console there . . . and a .44 magnum in the glove compartment.”

“Ma’am! What are you afraid of?”

“Not a dang thing, Sonny, not a dang thing.” 🙂

As of right now, B scares me the most.
Second place goes to choice D.

I really don’t get it. Why? To me it is such a low probability event.
