I would venture to say the Apostle and Nicene Creeds:thumbsup:
The content in them:thumbsup: If you break them down there are many doctrines in them.

This is really the answer. If you go to the historical creeds, the content there is certainly something we have in common. (It also sorts out folks & LDS & JWs).

Not a trick question, here—when I say ā€œAll Protestantsā€ I’m referring to all Protestants currectly versed in their particular denomination.
My first thought is: what does it matter?

ā€œProtestantismā€ is an artificial construct anyway. It is not a faith or a creed. It is only a very arbitrary designation or label.

If you want to arbitrarily place up all ā€œProtestantā€ churches against the modernist RCC alone, then that really won’t tell you much at all. The modernist RCC is just another church like all the others. I know you don’t see it that way, but that is only because your faith demands you don’t. The EOs and the Traditionalists, for example, all have the same obligation as you.

For a start:
  • There is one God
  • God is all powerful, all knowing, and all present
  • God is good
  • God is eternal
  • The Father is God, the Son is God, and the Holy Spirit is God
  • Jesus Christ is true God and the true Son of God
  • God became man
  • Christ was born of the virgin Mary
  • Christ died for our sins
  • Christ offered Himself on the Cross as a sacrifice for us
  • On the third day He rose again bodily
  • He ascended into Heaven
  • He will come again
Etc., etc., etc…

You can find the rest yourself.

now having attended a Women of Faith conference couple weekends ago, it was nondenominational.

I didnt see a lot of conflict between the groups, those hosting if someone were to ask are going to get a list of churches to pick from. Dont know if there is Catholic will have to see on the list. But whenever Im in those kind of settings there is little talk about how we dont agree and lots on what we do agree on.

So I guess I cant state doctrines but can say we all know how to worship quite well together. At this one and other types Ive been to.

I guess it matters to the folks in the pews.

I accept that.

I don’t know what a modernist RCC is.

No, we don’t see your point because you haven’t made one.

Shall we carry on your part of the discussion as well? 🤷

From my vantage point, the only thing Protestants agree on is:

Jesus Saves.

However, the what, when, where, how and why varies from denomination to denomination.

I would venture to say the Apostle and Nicene Creeds:thumbsup:
The content in them:thumbsup: If you break them down there are many doctrines in them.
I would also say that when catholic is mentioned it is referred to as the universal church not the RCC.

Lets see what other protestants here think:thumbsup: Im interested as well.😃
So All the Protestants believe that baptism forgives sins?

From the Nicene Creed:
" We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins."

No Baptist I know (and I know a LOT of Baptists) would ever say that ā€œJesus…descended into Hellā€ nor would they ā€œacknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sinā€ so the Creeds are out. Sorry.

And I don’t mean to be ugly…but…most Baptists do not even know what these Creeds are to begin with.
But you are right. Baptists require someone who was baptized as an infant to be re-baptized…so, nope, they wouldn’t accept these creeds.

Honestly, I can’t really think of a common doctrine between all Protestants.

OHHHH another one–probably because we believe the HS indwells individual believers and not a church heirarchy.😃
The Catholic Church teaches, and has always taught that Baptism brings with it to the soul of the baptised person sanctifying grace, and the theological virtues of faith, hope, and charity, and the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit (wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety and fear of the Lord). And also comes the fruits of the Holy Spirit (charity, joy, peace, patience, begnity, goodness, long-suffering, mildness, faith, modesty, continency, and chastity).

Does your church teach that? No, I am sure not.

We also confere on our members the Sacrament of Confirmation through which the Holy Spirit comes to us in a special way and enables us to profess our faith as strong and perfect Christians, and soldiers of Jesus Christ. Confirmation increases santifying grace, gives a special sacramental grace, and imprints a lasting character on the soul.

Your church does administer Confirmation. No, I am sure not.

And Jesus said, "Thou art Peter, and on this Rock I will build my Church, and the gates of hell will not prevail against it.

Did Jesus promise that to your Church? I think not.

Any church you belong to does not even try to imitate, doesn’t even come close, to the Church Jesus founded, and gave his Holy Spirit to guide it infallibly for all time. (The Holy Spirit does not dwell in the Church’s hierarchy, but in all the members of Christ’s Mystical Body of Christ.)

peace

Well, since the heirarchy is people then I guess you could say both, but that still means the HS indwells individuals.

I wouldnt be able to say if all the heirarchy in the CC has the HS because I dont know their hearts.🤷 I sure hope they do though:thumbsup:
We believe the Holy Spirit is in our church, which is the Body of Christ, which is all of us. We don’t all have the gift of tongues, but the Holy Spirit guides the Magesterium and the Bishops…

I know I didn’t know about them while I was a Baptist! They were considered extra-biblical. (But here’s our Statement of Faith and Church Constitution.)
Honestly, I can’t really think of a common doctrine between all Protestants.
Not one that doesn’t already agree with Catholic doctrine. 😃

Salvation is by Grace alone
Salvation is through Faith alone
In Christ alone
Sola Scriptura
Canon of Scripture
Trinity
Sunday is Christian Sabbath
All humans require a savior
Crucifixion
Virgin Birth

Thats only a start…

just a question this is hard to follow because when someone suggests something its compared to the catholic chuch?

I thought the op was trying to discover what protestants agree on with other protestants.

just wondering . . . . .

Canon of Scripture

…

Sunday is Christian Sabbath
(1) You’ll have to exclude the Canon of Scripture reference because the Church of Christ only goes by the New Testament (unless the Church of Christ is excluded from the survey).

(2) You’ll have to exclude Sunday is Christian Sabbath reference because the 7th Day Adventists and other Christian groups claim the Catholic Church corrupted the original teaching and therefore worship on Saturday (unless such groups are also excluded from this survey).

The Seventh Day Adventist don’t believe in that one.

Ohhh you reminded me, this is huge, when my friend (catholic) and I went to a 7th day seminar on end times we found out that there is NO division between protestants and catholics.

First off 7th day are Not protestant whatsoever, so leave them out of this catagory.

But the rest of us if baptist, nazarene, pentacostal, whatever ya are IF you worship on a Sunday, Then you are Catholic, PERIOD. no debate, you are Catholic.

and blah blah blah etc etc blah you all know

I was never more proud to be associated with Catholics. šŸ™‚

So Sunday thats what we all have in common.

Yeah, we watched those demonstrations of ā€˜tongues’. You also have faith healing, all those fake healings of Benny Hinn.
Nah, no fake healings. Any claims for healing or miracles are carefully studied by the Vatican. This sometimes takes centuries. Lourdes and Fatima are approved sites for healing and miracles. Since the thread is about Protestant doctrines, let’s leave this unless you want to start a new thread on it. OK?

I agree about the healings at Fatima.

What I was ā€˜condemning’ were the Televanglists who bring out these hardly sick people and ā€˜cure’ them before our eyes. Benny Hinn is a fake, and has never cured anyone. He talks about 'someone in the TV audience being healed of " such and such. Such are nonesense.
