Or are they?Did you forget what you wrote? Here it is:
That is because Catholics are content in what they believe. they don’t have to be in your face.
Same thing with Mormons, Muslims and Jews in my community too. They’re all content with what they believe also, and none of them gets into my face either.
Agreed. Again. This is getting scary. What makes Muslims so scary?
I hung out with them yesterday. They were nice people. A great many of the ones I saw were born here…regular English speaking White people. Nobody was talking about radical politics or committing crimes. Everyone was just enjoying themselves.
Islam is just another constitutionally protected religious movement.
See Rebecca’s post. Your experience and information is very limited. They also have a tradition of meting revenge on the descendants “unto the third and fourth generation” of people who were “on the other side” of the Nauvoo war in 1844-1849. And murder, rape, and theft were the issues then. FLDS is a retrospective time capsule. They have never been a violent group, and they had the good sense to abandon the questionable practise of polygamy. You don’t hear Mormans demanding that society adopt their religious practises,
Their evangelical efforts are peaceful, and they don’t threaten the lives of people who decide to leave their sect.
You are lucky. Two of my g’g grandparents were in Western Illinois in 1844. When I got to the relatively Mormon-free area I am in now, people thought I was joking when I called myself a refugee.I don’t worry about Mormon terrorists.

I think Islam has contributed a great deal to the world, in the context of science and astronomy and medicine. If we want to talk about the “fruit”, i’d say Mormonism is way much better. If we want to talk about the source of inspiration or method of revelation, they are the same : based on the claims of one man who claimed being visited by an angel resulting in giving a different book. So i’d say they are the same but the fruit goes to Mormons.
Apologies if I misunderstood. You seem to be raising two points here. I’ll try to answer them both.LaMar, am not questioning the contributions of Muslims. I was talking from a “peace” point of view if you compare the rise of both religions in terms of spreading the faith and killing non-believers and conquering other lands with the power of the sword. There are good and bad people everywhere but i think ideology is what must be discussed. If Mormons have in their ideology what applies to Islam, then it’d change my point. And since you are a Mormon , maybe you can elaborate on this point, which is about ideology, not about conflicts/bloodshed that might occur for one reason or the other.
This is especially nice for white Mormons, huh?I don’t worry about Mormon terroists. I can’t say the same about Muslims.
I don’t think there is any comparision whatsoever. While I disagree with their theology, I totally admire their morals. Plus there are the Osmonds. Love them. And Utah - how clean, safe & pretty is it?
Actually it was founded by an upright and moral merchant, who later became the leader of Medina. It is not steeped in anti-Christian/Jewish thought, nor was it anti western. There is a strong anti-western sentiment now, due primairly to colonialismIslam, unfortunately, is steeped in anti-Western, anti-Jewish, anti-Christian thought, and has been since it’s invention. It was founded by a violent warlord who conquored by the sword. Islamic influx into Western lands has always been, and continues to be a threat to our way of life.
That’s really totally false, as has been pointed out Mormonism has been steeped in raceism and Xenophobia, and I beleive LaMar has pointed to their violent actions.Mormonism, although it is a totally quirky sect loosely originating out of the American Protestant explosion of denominations in the 1800s, is founded by peaceful refugees who settled in Utah, and by hard work and family values, prospered and grew. They have never been a violent group, and they had the good sense to abandon the questionable practise of polygamy. You don’t hear Mormans demanding that society adopt their religious practises,
Their evangelical efforts are peaceful, and they don’t threaten the lives of people who decide to leave their sect.
As far as conflicts or bloodshed, I don’t see Mormons or Muslims promoting such things today (except for offshoots of both, which don’t seem to be more than an embarassment to the adherents of both
- But I agree with the poster who said that both Islam and Mormonism are non-Christian religions that draw people away from Christianity. That’s not a good thing. No matter how nice your Mormon next door neighbor might be, the theology, when you actually know the facts about it, is just way too far out. Unfortunately the weirdest part of Mormonism is hidden from prospective members.
- I have known of examples, even here in heavily-populated California, where people who left Mormonism were shunned, so there is at least some cult-like behavior, which seems rather strange in the 21st century. Supposedly, shunning is not the official position of the church, but I’ve seen it repeatedly happen, so it appears to be the de facto policy, at least in some places. That’s a strike against the whole “Mormons are tolerant” idea if they cannot stomach a member leaving their church.
And Muslims can be highly punitive with women who venture outside without a male chaperone.
- Yes, Mormons can be highly puntive with those who flee their sect.
