For maybe the last 25-30 years, it has been a rule that Republican candidates are social conservatives who are pro family values and anti abortion, and that Democrats are more socially liberal, pro homosexuality and pro choice. This may no longer be the case, however, as it seems the parties are changing and re-aligning their values to some extent.

I’m well-aware that this forum has a rule about not discussing political candidates.

Therefore, I’ll pose this question in the form of a children’s story.

Once upon a time, there was an old grey elephant from Arizona and a young brown donkey from Illinois. The two agreed that they’d have a race across America. You finish the story.

Once upon a time, there was an old grey elephant from Arizona and a young brown donkey from Illinois. The two agreed that they’d have a race across America. One day, an old lady came out of church and saw the two galloping down the street. She stopped to ask them what they thought about the rights of unborn babies, and they answered…
The old lady said ‘what a funny pair you two make galloping down the wrong way of a one-way street.’

The elephant said he would change the ordinance to make it a two-way street and the unborn should be born so we can send them to fight in wars to protect us from threats we don’t understand.

The donkey said the street belongs to anyone and how dare the old lady point out his error for the world to see, telling her she lacks compassion for his choices. He goes on to say the unborn have no right since they cannot speak.

The old lady asks the elephant about the lives of the children in the wars he supports and the elephant gives her a quizical look as if he doesn’t understand and says we have a national interest.

The old lady then asks the donkey about helping those who cannot speak for themselves and the donkey gives her a bewildered look and says without a voice ther eis nothing to hear or help.

There were many more questions but once they were gone all that was left was dung in the middle of a one-way street.
