Which Marian apparition do you find to be the most compelling?

This is by far the most “bestest” thread ever… as my kids would say. I’m enjoying reading about the other apparitions which I haven’t heard about.

I have been to the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in D.C. All the different aspects of Mary there, wonderful. I am all about our Lady of Guadalupe because of the beautiful picture of her left behind. But, I also am amazed at the story of Lourdes. I still don’t know what the deal is with Fatima, I get more confused as I go.

I just read the story of our Lady of Siluva, I change my vote! Wow, amazing, wonderful, powerful.

I was very lucky to attend. You could spend at least a couple days there going into all the different sections. In the lower cathedral is a place for adoration and one of the kneelers there was used by Pope Benedict in 2008. I happened to be kneeling on one kneeler and a very nice man told me “Pope Benedict kneeled here on this very spot.” and pointed to the other kneeler next to me. I moved over and stayed there for a bit. It was quite a time. They do daily masses too which I participated in.

Inside the main upper part of the church is an extremely high ceiling with a painting on the ceiling of Jesus dressed in red with dazzling eyes and brilliant blond hair, it made the hair stand on my arms. It’s almost too much to take in.

Then, you go outside and you are in a somewhat run down part of DC. Such an odd contrast of this world and the next.

I worked with children and not many of them could stand up to the tortures and sacrifices these little children made. Mary had to be real! I believe in all the apparitions (and I love Lourdes and Saint Bernadette) but Fatima was the one that convinced me.

When it comes to a display of the non-natural (supernatural or preternatural), I see Fatima as practically irrefutable. Given your perspective - I am very curious to hear if you think that there is even the least bit of room to suggest that the events in Fatima on October 13, 1917 could have been completely natural. My perception is that there is not any room to make that kind of claim.

However, I think that your comment about deeper faith makes sense - as you might see that while the events were not natural, they may not necessarily be of God. Is that what you’re talking about?

The events at Fatima were proven to be authentic, otherwise the Church would never have stated them to be “Worthy of Belief!”, God Bless, Memaw

I like to point to Fatima because it happened outside the Church - and in full public view. There are non-Church related documents that prove the reality that something non-natural happened there. The events were documented by an atheist/communist state run newspaper for a government that was dedicated to stamping out religion.

When a person is an atheist, they don’t care what the Church authenticates. But, they might take notice of people paid to push atheist belief are willing to admit something happened in Fatima So, that is why I choose to point to the historicity rather than the approval given by the Church when the discussion involves atheists (or ex-atheists).

The bumping is to bring back the thread for those who are new or who haven’t seen the thread to vote and comment. This last bump was about 3 months ago.
