Church Militant:
I don’t have to read about popes… I read what they wrote. And why would we care what the n-Cs might allege about them anyway? I haven’t seen or heard n-Cs offer an unbiased opinion of the popes in 53 years of my life. 😃
So my first question was correct - it does need to have the Imprimatur to be considered “unbiased”.

Peace

Xavier:
In the the sola scriptura and english translation thread on the apologetic board a poster attacked Luther. So I asked which of the 95 did he disagree with thus this thread got started.
Well…my statements concerning Luther are historically accurate and demonstrate the mind of the man behind these errors. Since you consistently allege arrogance, etc on the part of the church, I had to show that you were offbase (again).
This thread is apparently going nowhere…

Not necessarily… but I don’t see Hillare Belloc on your list either… 🙂 Why not read from both sides of the issue in order to gain a balanced view? Or is it that an impimatured souce is not trustworthy?

I am sorry for your misfortion in running into this thread the thread starter enjoys Church slamming:mad: And takes any and every opportunity to do so,under a Saints name no less:nope:
Am I the one with the bias here?
I posted a simple question and you attached me for being divisive.

Our bias towards you you have worked very hard to earn Xavier. I have answered your allegations for months…yet you never seem to listen at all. I have yet to see you do anything but use this forum as a platform for anti-Catholic rhetoric of one kind or another. You bring it all on yourself pardner. 🙂
Pax tecum,

I know my stands on the issues discussed.
I can be honest concerning that.
Do you have it in you to be honest about your post?

I know my stands too,Xavier and I have expressed them,so what is it that you do not think I am being honest about?:nope:

You posted just above this that EU should read from both sides of the issue.
I have in the past since you and Lisa both remember my posts criticized Luther. Yet neither one of you can admit the effect a corrupt institution had on the Body of Christ.

We have now totally gone off topic.

Your allegation is that the Catholic Church was/is corrupt in it’s doctrines…something you have consistently failed to prove from any of your posts. I (frankly) could give a rip about Luther, since (IMO) he was a neurotic whackjob that led millions of Christians into errors like sola scriptura and sola fide and has irreparably harmed Christ’s church with resulting divisions & rebellion. The only corrupt institiution in the body of Christ (again IMO) is the wide variety of n-C denoms that bring about discussions like this one.

If you have a gospel message to expound then I cannnot fathom why you waste time attacking another Christian denomination as opposed to spreading that message to the lost who are without a church or faith.

Wait just a second.

You eschew valid historical evidences about the behavior by some in the RCC when you claim that you don’t have to read about the popes because you can read what they wrote. Then in virtually the next post you want to cite historical evidences about Luther to discredit what he wrote?

Ladies and Gentlemen, that is what is known as a double-standard.

Peace

If you say so…I do read and note history, but I also reserve the right to go to the source itself…have you? Or have you some measure of a double standard of your own?

Sure, if you say so.

I don’t have a problem with the fact that Luther posted 95 theses. I have a problem with the fact that he created an entirely new religion. There is only one Church of Christ and that is the Catholic Church. Lutheranism is markedly different from what Protestants euphemistically call the “early Church” i.e. the Catholic Church in the first 3 or 4 centuries.

Pax tecum,
You captured my post as I was deleting it. After thought I realized it was less than kind.

There is no proof that would satisfy you.

Lets get back on topic

Which of the 95 do you disagree with?

Like I said I don’t have a problem with the fact that Luther posted his 95 theses. It is my understanding that he posted them in Latin and someone took them down and translated them into German so that everyone could read them. He was originally addressing what he believed to be abuses by the clergy so he wrote it in Latin specifically for the member of clergy who was coming through Germany at the time (from Rome).

Your link to the theses isn’t working for me. Could you please re-post it?

Also, we have had reform from within the Church before when it was needed and the key reformers have often been made saints.
