Lust for sure for me. I Think about Sex constantly. I haven’t had it in a few years since coming back to the church but when i did I loved it. I felt like half a man when I wasn’t getting it. I would say it is one of the most powerful driving forces in my life.

I have chosen to give it up so that I can find true love as I am coming of age and want to settle down. BUT in my mind and heart I still get really worked up over a beautiful woman smiling my direction.

The availability of internet porn doesn’t help at all. I wish it was illegal and unnaccessible. Satan is master of the flesh for sure.

Pride & Anger, and all kinds of sins that are related to them. 😦
Lord have mercy…

7 deadly sins treated in rock and roll voice… for all you Joe Jackson fans, this is a good album …

Song on this album:
  1. Prelude
  2. Fugue 1/More Is More (Gluttony)
  3. Angel (Lust)
  4. Tuzla (Avarice)
  5. Passacaglia/A Bud and a Slice (Sloth)
  6. Right (Anger)
  7. Bridge (Envy)
  8. Fugue 2/Song of Daedalus (Pride)
Take a good listen to Passacaglia / A Bud and A Slice. When was the last time you heard two bassoons on a rock icons CD. I am not joe jackson, just thought some of you audiophiles might like a modern classical discourse on the 7 deadly sins…

Pride for me, too, although I sometimes struggle with spiritual gluttony (choosing to continue reading a spiritual book or watching a program instead of talking with my husband & kids, for example – “Just let me finish this chapter” instead of putting it down and getting back to it later).

I just heard an EWTN program on the radio that said anger was not a sin if it was just and you did not act out on it. It said that just feeling angry was not sinful. I usually go farther by thinking hateful things as well. I think this would qualify as sinful. I chose Gluttony, however. I am not overweight, but I exercise alot and I would be very fit if I didn’t give in to my sinful nature and eat without hunger sometimes daily. When I do this, I know good and well I am sinning and I would be better off to pray or read my Bible rather than eat mindlessly. Good poll, I think!
Interesting comment. Anything that is excessive is gluttony.

To put this another way, I do not think that an overweight person is necessarily guilty of the sin of gluttony, since gluttony itself can relate to far more than the eating of food. Sometimes people are overweight because they have a hormonal or metabolism imbalance. Sometimes that imbalance is caused by not getting enough exercise. At the other end of the scale there are people who are too thin because they over indulge in exercise.

All I am trying to say here is that we need to look beyond the more narrow meaning or definitions for these seven capital sins to discover how, in so many ways we do have a tendency to commit these sins, sometimes without realising what we are doing.

I would have to go into the lust category. I remember as a very small (4-5) boy seeing a playboy calendar in a friends garage and it set my little heart aflutter :o . My father (God Rest his soul) encouraged it by teaching me young about what women look good and which don’t. I could judge a great pair of  …eyes, a mile away by the time I was 10. That was also the same time Mom’s boss molested me, I guess it left some scars. By the time I was 21 I had been incredibly sexually active. My mother was unsure how to deal with all these girls calling and my dating and my dad was living vicariously through me. I suppose I wanted his approval. Then I married and I was terrified that I would cheat. TERRIFIED because of all the women I’d slept with I feared I couldn’t be happy with one. But I prayed for years :gopray: at Mass that St. Joseph would be my guide and never allow me to be tempted. I have been married now over 17 FAITHFUL years and am just as in-love with (and desire) my lovely wife (thanks to the abundant Grace of God alone and not by my weak flesh). But about 5 years ago we returned from years of military travel and voila we discovered cable TV and the internet and “bob’s yer uncle” I have a whole new battle to fight and that temptation is much harder than any I have ever felt when meeting women. :banghead: There is just something about visual stimulation that has always hooked me. So now I fight that war, one day at a time through prayer and fasting and of course the rosary. Who can have those thoughts when thinking of Mary?
Does anyone else find the ease of porn on the internet or those soft core shows on Cinemax a temptation?:hmmm:
Yes, I have and it takes a lot of prayer for me not to slip.I have moved my home alter right next to my computer. Just above my computer is a picture of Our Lady of The Rosary., on the wall behind my computer desk is a picture of Sister Lucy. How can I sin with all that going on.
When I do get lustfull thoughts I immediately start saying the Hail Mary and the Fatima Prayer.
The Holy Mother told Blessed Lucinda that more people went to hell because of sins of the flesh than for any other sin. I pray to Blessed Lucinda often to help me in this area.

Anger is a biggy for me. There was a toss up between pride and anger, but I think anger wins out over pride. I started writing a huge example, but after reading it I decided it was dishonoring my dh. 😦

I would have to say the same with my its a big toss up between pride and anger.

hi
pride is the most serious deadly sin. If you are proud of your acheivements, and have pride. You are basically saying you are the same as God. No-one is!
In this western world where everything is about money, and acheivements. It is hard to accept that people should think less about themselves, and to help others.

Gluttony for me. I can’t seem to get enough of good food and lots of beer. Having temperence concerning food and drink is spiritual area that I am foucsing on this year. Not that I am morbidly obese or a constant drunkard, I feel that I have been over doing it for some time. Lust is a close second. And that would be lust in all areas, mental, physical, and spiritual. Sloth would be 3rd. Especially after a heavy meal and many beers! 😃 I am even contemplating doing regular fasts every week this year as a small mortification. Any one have any advice on different mortifications to deal with these sins?

I don’t agree. God gave us all talents, one can do something better than the next fellow and the reverse is true. It depends on how you are proud of achievements. If you have achieved much, thank God for the talents and opportunity that gave you that success. Now, if you brag to other people so as to put them down, that is sinful.

For me it’s a tossup between sloth and gluttony for sure - I have problems with both.

iam prone to crankiness alot, and when i get mad, i can yell quite loud, so iam prone to anger.

Where does tv and the internet fall ???

seriously my biggest weakness is watching too much tv and doing too much surfing on the net.

I usually have this bad habit too, tv and internet.😦 However none of these are sexual, just nudity. :bigyikes: To solve this problem, I’ve stop getting these cable movies. As for the internet, I taped three pictures on my computer monitor, Sacred Heart of Jesus and Mary, also I have St Philomena picture. So, when gets these impure thoughts in my head, these three pictures would be saying to me, “Don’t you dare!” 😃 It works!

Before my conversion from atheism three years ago, I can say that I comitted each and every one. I certainly embraced several and called it personal choice and lifestyle.

I have many regrets from those days and I am so thankful toi God that He literally showed my His Light.

I voted for Lust. But I think I should have gone for Pride.
