Me: Liturgy of the Hours 4 Volume. My monastery uses its own Ordo. Basically Lauds and Vespers Plus. šŸ™‚

I use Christian Prayer. For me it is the perfect combination of completeness for the Hours I actually pray and small/cheapness in that I don’t have extras that I wouldn’t use anyway. šŸ‘

The 4 volume is a tad pricey, no question about it. I do kind of like not having to flip for the daily Hymn, though šŸ™‚

I started with the 4 volume over 10 years ago, then switched to CP maybe 4-5 years ago. I have had to switch back to the 4 volume due to the fact that my monastery’s Ordo is based on the 4 volume.

I really enjoy it. šŸ™‚

I use the 4-volume. I was very fortunate, some years ago, to have an income-tax refund and nothing else pressing that it was needed for. šŸ˜‰

I use the four-volume LOTH, plus Universalis.com if I’m stuck on the computer. I’ve tried the Shorter Christian Prayer but found it too short (ha). While I’d like to say I read all of the days’ prayers, my priority is the Office of Readins and the psalms.

😃

The only down side of the 4 Volume is getting caught out when the volume changes at Vespers, and I haven’t brought the extra volume with me to work (where I usually pray Vespers):o

Christian Prayer as that is what my community uses.

I also have the one volume Office of Readings that I use in my private prayer.

I use the 1962 Divine Office (Roman Breviary) . . . or an english-use version called the Anglican Breviary.

4 Volume plus I email the .pdf files from ebreviary.com to my workplace email and Kindle. Sometimes a breviary can be a great evangelizing tool when others see it, but at other times it can be a bit of distraction if one is attempting to quietly become lost (with)in prayer.

I have the CP volume as well but mainly use it for travel or retreats.

4-volume for me, in French. However, I do Lauds, Sext, Vespers and Compline in Gregorian Chant using this:

The Gregorian Hours.

It is entirely faithful to LOTH. Excellent for those who wish to chant the office.

For the Office of Readings, I pray that as Vigils. If I’m really ambitious, I’ll chant it recto-tono in French (with Latin hymn) at 4 am (when the cats usually wake me to go out). If not, I’ll read it in bed a 6:30 am before I get up.

When I travel, I just bring the appropriate volume of the 4-volume set (in French) with me.

I tried the various monastic offices but with my schedule, LOTH works best. To keep the monastic tradition, during the week I chant the Monastic version of Compline (ps. 4, 90 and 133 every day, no Nunc Dimittis, no responsory, hymn after the psalmody).

Christian Prayers is what we pray as a group. When praying with my wife she prefers The Little Office.
I pray Christian Prayers when praying alone.

I’m kind of new at this but I started out with the Little Office of the BVM, then I found a Dominican Little Office which is slightly different. I really like this one because I can really get into the psalms.

Just recently I bought a book of Christian Prayer. Haven’t received it yet. My goal is to eventually graduate to the 4 Volume LOTH in latin.

I figured I would clarify what I said in my 1st post, a bit.

Our monastery uses the 4 volume as I have already stated. We pray Lauds and Vespers (Morning and Evening). But a plus version:
  1. We use a different Reading than what is used in the ā€œregularā€ LotH. It is usally longer (sometimes much longer) and is from a different book of the Bible than the ones in the regular LotH.
  2. We add a Psalm (usually borrowed from the Office of Readings of the day). So we end up saying 2 OOR Psalms (1 at Lauds, 1 at Vespers) in addition to the ā€œstockā€ Psalms
  3. On days when a longer Psalm is split by the LotH, we say it all together, under the 1st part’s antiphon. When this happens we add another Psalm for the ā€œsecondā€ Psalm (from the OOR)
Quite beautiful, actually. šŸ™‚

I use the Shorter Christian Prayer except for some mornings when I have to get up at 05.00 to get to work. It really is a great inspiration. When I retire I’ll get the 4 volume one.

I have a 4 the Volume, Christan Prayer (one vol.), and used to have Shorted Christian Prayer (but I gave it to a friend). I like having the four volume. I actually got it as a gift from a good priest-friend of mine. I haven’t looked, but I bet the ā€œfullā€ four volume isn’t too cheap…

Around $150

He’s a really good priest friend;)

I actually go back and forth between the 4 volume LOTH and the Little Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary. I don’t really know why I do this it’s just some days I like the Little Office over the 4 volume šŸ™‚

I don’t recall what it cost me, but I didn’t buy it all at once. I started just before Advent one year, and bought the first volume. As Lent approached, I bought the second volume. Towards the end of Eastertide, I bought the third, and late summer, I bought the 4th. So I spread the cost over the entire year. Seemed to hurt less šŸ˜‰

  1. Yeah I forgot to mention, we have a second book used by the community, the Carmelite Proper of the LotH.
