Which Protestant Denominations use wine?

Which protestant denominations use wine wine instead of grape juice in communion? I know Anglicans do and some Episcopalians. Who else?

My church uses grape juice. I don’t know why, I assume it’s because of the expense of wine.
 
Most do except those heavily influenced by the holiness movement which included Prohibition of alcohol.

Using grape juice would be common among Baptists, some of the Pentacostal groups, though I can’t tell you which, and some Methodists, which were the actual innovators and involved in the finding of how to preserve grape juice. Nodenominationals, well who knows?

The vast majority of Epscopalians, Anglicans, Lutherans, and Presbyterians would use wine.

Hi,

First you should be aware that Episcopalians are Anglicans. Those who call themselves “Anglicans” in the United States are mostly Episcopalians who have separated themselves from the Episcopal Church.

I know the Lutherans do.

Most Protestant denominations have a history of temperance and long ago substituted grape juice for wine. Those who would look askance at protestants using grape juice might look at the history of these denominations. In the US, certainly, people from these denominations gave birth to the temperance movement. The over-use of alcoholic beverages in the new country led many to see temperance as the only right course of action. It became the Christian thing to do.

Of course, Mormons also do not drink alcohol and even forbid cafinated beverages. Oddly, though born out of Protestantism, the Jehovah’s Witnesses do not forbid drinking.

Islam forbad alchohol ab initio.

Thanks, I do know this, Im attending an Anglican Church atm and was previously in Episcopal Churches. Since the Anglicans in the US are taking the name solely to separate themselves, I am listing them as separate.

Yes. Those who call themselves “Anglican” are not in the Anglican communion, yet. I think that having both the ACNA and the Episcopal Church in the communion might help the Episcopal Church mend its ways.

Do you know if either has Wine proscribed over grape juice in church doctrines? I know of just one Episcopal church that uses grape juice, but the one made me wonder if it is optional.

I drink blood at mass. But it is holy blood, Jesus’.

Actually, many so-called liberal churches, including the Universalist Church, embraced and encouraged the temperance movement, too.
 
I thought Anglicans and Episcopalians are one in the same??? 🤷 I thought they just changed the name here in America during the revolutionary war?

With much of the scandal in the Episcopal Church, many in the US are Distancing themselves from it by taking the name Anglican. Whereas before you did not see Anglicans in the US.
 
Grape wine and whaet bread are an Apostolic Tradition that was handed down from the apostles, by the authority of Jesus. It is in accord with Sacred Scripture, not to mention it been this way for 2000 years, so how is it that these other denominations can rightly change this? Oh and by the way, We as Catholics are the Church, they are the denominations, so i guess that explains it.

Im sure we could have quite a long discussion about Wine vs Grape Juice and I have seen many such threads here, but i started this thread because I KNOW Catholics are not using grape juice and I know Anglicans are not as well. But I was wondering what other churches held to wine only in the US despite pressure to cave to grape juice.

Sorry to beat a dead horse, but there have been Anglicans in the US since the American Revolution. They are and were called Episcopalians.
