Unfortunately, she opted for the abortion and I assumed that it was the right thing to do. However, I had no idea of what the procedure was like. In this respect as a young girl, I was ignorant and thought that in the first trimester of pregnancy the fetus is not really a ‘baby’. For some reason I knew that this baby would not make it to term. She could have most likely had a miscarriage.

The greatest sin here is that the adults who performed the abortion did not counsel her. All she had was her 13 and 14 year old friends who knew no better.😦

That is a very great sin, to not counsel someone out of this, but the greater is the lack of repentance these people show by obstinately continuing in this course of action. When an abortion “doc” comes right out and says “I Kill Babies” you have to believe he knows what he is doing…

ahem… this is not a good morning topic for me. Gets me all riled up it would seem.

I have… Being male, it is somewhat different for me, but when its your own father it tends to have an impact. But I dont understand the point of this comment… It is hard to empathize, yes. But it is not hard to understand, at least intellectually, what that person is going through.

The point of my comment is just as I have stated. It’s very easy to sit back and pass judgement onto another when you think you would act differently. As you admitted you are male so your experience is different than that of a woman. How about a rape victim that already has a husband and family? No one can honestly say what they would do unless they had to face that situation. I’d like to think I would act a certain way that is consistent with my faith if had to face dire conditions. Until I face those conditions I or no one else has the ability to pass judgement onto another for their choices. Only GOD is the judge.

This happened 25 years ago. There wasn’t much help you could get then. She was lost. Yet she showed that she could do better with the right influence and support; I didn’t know how else to help her. There weren’t many adults you could turn to. Even the teachers didn’t take any action. It was only us girls giving her some emotional support. All I had was prayers and some sound advice.

All we could do my friend is trust in the Lord’s Mercy. Don’t get overwhelmed by it; it is not our burden to carry; give it over to Jesus and trust in Him. Peace be with you. 🙂

That is quite often the only option left to us… just trust in the Lord. I dont really think there is any scarier place to be than trusting solely in the Lord. But it is also the most comforting, calm, peaceful, and loving place we could be.

True God is the Judge; however I should point out that most unwanted pregnancies are not caused by such dire tragedies so please do not use this as a case. It is clear that most unwanted pregnancies are caused because of unprotected sex.

You would think that the amount of government spending for educational material used in public schools to educate young children about the consequences of unsafe sex would lead to a reduction in STD’s and unwanted teen pregnancies but the opposite has occurred. Perhaps churches and and the secular world should hold more regard to ABSTINENCE than anything else IMHO. I know that the CC teaches this but is very ‘quiet’ about it.

Yes, I would agree. It is the single, most difficult thing to do is to hand over ‘the reigns of your life’ to Jesus and completely trust Him. As a child it was easy; now I have to remind myself over and over. When I do ‘let it go’ then He comforts me and there is nothing like it.

BTW, I like your signature. It must of been quite a swim?!🙂 God Bless

At fourteen I knew a girl who got pregnant. She came from a ‘very’ disfunctional family. Her mother had children with several different men and her elder brothers and sisters were dealing and consuming hard core drugs. When she was only five years of age her elder siblings introduced her to drugs; it started with pot then she eventually went on to cocaine and crack. She was lost. As a confirmed catholic, I befriended her and saw the need to help her get on the right track. She started to do well in school but alas she found out that she was pregnant. The father was her age and completely abandonned her. Her family was living in dire conditions and she was not capable of taking care of the child. What should she have done?😦
By the way she still smoked and probably using drugs.
Seek help, from the Gabrial Project for instance. Carry the Child to Term, give it up for adoption. It really doesn’t matter how dire a situation you think you’ve found, abortion is never the right call.

Not disagreeing with you Elisabeth but I would also say that no one can speak to that situation until they are faced with it. Have you personally ever dealt with being raped or had an incestuous act committed against you?? If so how did you deal with it? If not then it’s very easy to sit back and pass judgement by saying I would never do that.
It’s very easy to think you’ve come up with a new situation where abortion is the only possible solution, but what you keep missing is that there is never a justification.

Remember, God is easy, Satan is very complex. If you’re sitting around pondering out all the different “moral considerations” for a very long time, you’re probably dealing with Satan. Your example here, very clearly bares this out. It really doesn’t matter what happend to the mother, one person has no right to kill another.

Where do you get this idea that anyone is passing judgment on those who get sucked into the lies and seek an abortion. The point isn’t to pass judgment on the individual, it’s to recognize the act as being intrinsically evil. As such, there’s never a justification for it. There for one should never be a part of it, and always discourage others from seeking it out.

When someone does get one, that’s when it’s time to get them on the path of healing, with God and them selves.

I haven’t read al the postings, so I suspect I will be repetitious.

Protestants differ among themselves on abortion. The more evangelical churches, often the most critical of Catholicism, often agree more with the Church on such matters than more liberal Protestants who are likely to have a stronger ecumenical outlook.
Code:
The key word among liberal Protestants probably is freedom. They feel free to make up their own minds. I know of one Protestant family, for example, in which the wife had an abortion after giving birth to four children. Why? The wife had developed major medical problems and the doctor warned her that another pregnancy could kill her and the baby. There also was the economic crunch. They decided they wanted to give the four the best in education and that more childen would make that less likely.

I know of another Protestant couple where the wife had been raped as a teenager, and she had had an abortion well before their marriage. And in another instance a downs syndrome teen had been gang-raped, became pregnant, and the parents decided that an abortion was the only way of avoiding a myriad of serious problems that would continue for many years. They felt assured that the fetus, if truly a baby (there is debate among many, of course, as to when a fetus becomes a baby), would go directly to heaven "and may actually be better off than the rest of us" - quoting the Dad as he sought to justify the abortion.

What troubles many Protestants about the Catholic position is that its opposition to all abortions is paired with its sharp condemnation of all birth control except the church-approved variety, which can seem unnatural in a happy marriage relationship but also is not very reliable.

What many Catholics may overlook is the Church's position on abortion seems ineffective. Statistics that are available suggest that abortions are as common among Catholics as non-Catholics.

Off topic a bit, but I recently saw a Pew poll which asked four groups how they felt about same-sexual marriage. Mainline Protestants opposed it by a narrow margim - roughly 46% against, 43% for, or some such figure. Evangelical Protestants and Black Protestants both were heavily against it. Only Catholics favored it, by a small margin, something like 45% for, 42% against. That seems to say something about the way in which millions of Catholics regard the mandates of the Church

. I suspect this refers to abortion as well. Many Catholics apparently feel that abortions should be very rare and very safe, but should be permitted with certain restrictions that some states have imposed - e. g., notification of parents when a teenager is involved, showing a film of an embyro in the womb, requiring a time for reconsideration before an abortion is performed, etc.
We humans go to great extent to try to justify our sin,Comparing statistics and all, you forget we are not our own judges, in the end it will be God’s call. God shine your light! Carlan

To get back to the topic perhaps we can ask our protestant friends if they can research into the history of their church to find any publications that can attest to their teachings of ‘the rights of the unborn’; in other words what is their stance on when life begins and is it right or not to terminate a fetal life.

As for the CC it teaches that the embryonic child has a human soul; and therefore is a man from the time of its conception; therefore it has an equal right to its life with its mother; therefore neither the mother, nor medical practitioner, nor any human being whatever can lawfully take that life away.

As I mentioned in a previous post that this happened 25 years ago. Was this project around and in my country for that matter? Either way can you please provide me with the info on this project? Thank you.

My aunt went through something similar. She was the one who took her friend to the clinic; picked her up. I think it is one of the biggest regrets of her life. You see, at that point, my aunt’s friend thought she had no other choice. Most people think that way. And my aunt knew that it was her duty as a true friend to help her in her time of need. But did bringing her to the abortion clinic do anything to help the situation…help my aunt’s friend? No. In fact, it doubled both of their problems. There are many side effects to abortion; both physical and psychological. Some women don’t deal with the psychological ones until many years after their abortions. But there is always something missing. Always an emptiness remaining. My aunt may have not known that day what she was doing/participating in, but there was that nagging sense of regret. A sense that she did something terribly, terribly wrong. I won’t even begin to tell you what her friend went through.

Did my aunt do something wrong? Yes, not just because she assisted in bringing a tiny human being to it’s death. Because she brought a friend to a place that causes our Lord to weep. A place that dehumanizes human beings, the same way the Holocaust dehumanized Jews, or slavery dehumanized African Americans.

Now is not the time to say you would “do it again.” In your heart of hearts, you know it was wrong. I know the pain of abortion remains long after the actual abortion. And to want an abortion shows that there must be some initial pain and deep hurt. Think about it. Pray on it. And ask God how the situation could have been better handled. You may not be feeling that pain or regret I was speaking of, but you can bet your bottom dollar your friend was, is, and will be.

God’s peace to you.
You must know my “heart of hearts” better than I. She and I are still in touch…I don’t think you’d like her answer any more than you like mine.

Nope, I missed that part so that’s not a resource you would have had then. Regardless, abortion still wasn’t the answer, adoption may very well have been. Certainly going to your church to see what resources were available would have been a good idea. Certainly Birth Choice as already around at the time (started just before abortion became legal), so there was free emergency pregancy services available, at least in the nation. I can’t speak for whether or not you had clinics there.

GOD being the judge and unwanted pregnancies are 2 different aspects of this post. I’m aware of what you are saying and agree it’s an absolute tragedy.

Now you’re talking 🙂 I think the church should be extremely bold about it. Our church preaches abstinence until marriage and to be willing to accept children from GOD as part of the covenant of marriage.

I’m not missing anything. You’re saying there’s never justification for an abortion. I probably agree with you. But I could understand in certain situations where an innocent person was raped or in the case of incest that an abortion would be considered. Until you are faced with those circumstances you can’t speak as to how you would act. I think that’s the point you may be missing.

As stated above until you are faced with circumstances of that nature you can’t make a statement as to what exactly you would do. You’d like to think you would follow your faith but you never know until you are hit with it. If one person has no right to kill another then why did GOD order the Jews to kill?? How about the killing that takes place in war? How about if your child’s life is being threatened and the only way to save them is to kill another?? If you’ve ever faced any of these circumstances then please tell me how you acted. Otherwise it’s just talk and I certainly don’t mean that disrespectfully.

I like the second part of your post… The first is where I cringe. Its the attitude held by so many people that they do not want this child they have created. That is one of the great sorrows of our society, IMHO…

“Never”, is an aboslute. Think of it this way, would it be fair to kill a rapists child for the crime of it’s father? Would it be fair to kill one of the victems (born) childeren to pay for the crime? What makes it fair kill the unborn child of the victem?

I understand rape is tramadic, killing and innocent does nothing to make it better. There is no justification, no not even for rape or incest. Even in these cases, the unborn child is still an innocent.

Again, you’re missing the point, it really doesn’t matter. The truth wouldn’t change if I was a woman, and raped, it really wouldn’t.
