There are almost 300 members of the House and Senate who are Republicans. They got two people, two obscure members of the House to sign. They have a very distantly failed presidential candidate. A failed gubernatorial candidate. The Republican Party is united on this issue against same-sex marriage, and I don’t think this brief makes a bit of difference to dissuade that idea.
I disagree. Of course house republicans are going to be against it, they have constituents and votes to worry about. But some of these conservatives who signed the brief are very influential within the political sphere, even if their influence is not seen by the general public. Just because you aren’t visible doesn’t mean you aren’t powerful. They are not conservatives and 98% of them are not prominant, they are known RINOs and the only 2 I have heard of before is Huntsman who got 0.44% of the vote in the primaries in 2012 and the 1 republican officeholder on the list, Ileana Ros-Lehtinen

House republicans have filed a brief to supreme court to uphold DOMA
3 millions republicans stayed at home instead of voting and I would argue they were probably social conservatives who were not happy with ‘moderate Mitt’ as Mitt Romney was known. No way will the republican party support redefining marriage to the national platform. I am not suprised there are few republicans who are currently elected on the list, because the overwhelming majority who have voted in favour of redefining marriage have lost their seatsI disagree. Of course house republicans are going to be against it, they have constituents and votes to worry about. See Reagan, Ronald W, “three legged stool”.They are republicans, not conservatives.
Republicans are defined by the party you register with. A conservative by definition is both socially and fiscally conservative. If you support gay marriage, you are not a conservative. You may be a fiscal conservative, but you are a social liberal.
This is exactly what I was going to post. Thought I’d quote it for effect, anyway. They are republicans, not conservatives.

The only losers are those who give up without even trying. The reality is that the polls indicate that the republicans will be doomed with out changing on this issue. It will be used to marginalize them and no elections will be won by vocally opposing GM unfortunately. Putting conservative justices on the bench can only be accomplished through being pragmatic and fighting winning battles in such areas as abortion and right to die.
Conservatives need to pick important, winning issues on which to focus in order to win elections and not dwell on losing battles.
That really makes sense, that’s why 33 states or so have a State Constitutional Amendment defining marriage as between one man and one woman! The reality is that the polls indicate that the republicans will be doomed with out changing on this issue. It will be used to marginalize them and no elections will be won by vocally opposing GM unfortunately. Unfortunately there are Republicans who want to distance themselves from the social issues and solely focus on the economy. I think Romney tried that and it may have lost him votes from some social conservatives.. If you support gay marriage, you are not a conservative. You may be a fiscal conservative, but you are a social liberal.
The Future of Marriage: “Why The Inevitable” Is Not InevitableAs much as we all hate it, it’s going to pass eventually in every state in the Union.
We might as well face it that the end IS here, and do everything we can to be ready when Jesus comes back on the last day. I’m not being funny in any way at all. It is just where the world is heading.
Europe was 1st, North America is in the process, but I really can’t see liberalism EVER taking hold in the Middle East or SE Asia. Even South America is worse than they once were. Jesus foretold it, and it’s happening.
Saying abortion is threatened is SOP from it’s supporters. That is how they keep their base involved.Bet abortion advocates in 1973 after the supreme court decision thought that this was it, there was no going back now abortion was legal. 2013, pro abortion advocates are saying legal abortion is threatened and there are 100s of abortion restriciton laws at state level
I think the left-wing media wants them to be considered “prominent” so it can help advance their progressive narrative. They are not conservatives and 98% of them are not prominant, they are known RINOs and the only 2 I have heard of before is Huntsman who got 0.44% of the vote in the primaries in 2012 and the 1 republican officeholder on the list, Ileana Ros-Lehtinen

To quote a right-wing pundit, you can’t be a social liberal and a fiscal conservative, because social liberalism always begets fiscal liberalism. They are republicans, not conservatives.

Mainstream media make a big deal about this yet there is little coverage over the Manhattan Declaration brief that over 500000 members have signed, pro DOMAI think the left-wing media wants them to be considered “prominent” so it can help advance their progressive narrative.
Interesting how someone like Meg Whitman who lost an election is suddenly important in the eyes of the progressive movement![]()
