Saints are still being made. My favorites are…
Blessed Chiara “Luce” Badano
Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati
Servant of God Guido Schäffer
Chiara Corbella Petrillo

All of these died somewhat in the recent times and at young ages and for the teachings of the Church. It can be helpful to learn about more recent people who gave their lives for the Faith. Especially younger people.

If you want to see a young person who truly “gave his life for the Faith”, check out Saint Jose Sanchez Del Rio. I didn’t realize until recently that Pope Francis had canonized him last year, as many websites still have him listed as a Blessed.

Venerable Fulton Sheen
Blessed Stanley Rother
Servant of God Nicholas Black Elk

Francis Seelos, a German priest who worked here in Pittsburgh and presumably crossed paths with my great great grandparents who were German Catholics.

How do you know they crossed paths?
Fr. Seelos was the parish priest at the German parish of St. Philomena’s at the time. Their neighborhood, and their ethnicity.

I don’t “know” that they crossed paths, but it would seem that had to have at least known who he was.

I don’t even know anything about my great grandparents, let alone my great great grandparents. 🤔 Good on you for at least having an idea.

Venerable Fulton J. Sheen
Blessed John Henry Newman
Servant of God Dorothy Day

And hopefully soon, Mother Angelica!

May God bless you all! 🙂

I am looking forward to the canonisation of the Blessed Pope Paul VI and the advancement of the cause of Pope John Paul I.

Is it unusual that the official feast date for Pope Paul VI is his birthday, and not the anniversary of his death? Is this something new?

It is not abnormal to choose another date when the anniversary of death is already taken by a feast of great and immemorial prominence. Pope Paul VI died on the Feast of the Transfiguration, so another date had to be chosen.

Therese of Lisieux similarly died on the feast of Saint Jerome…so that was not an option for her liturgical memorial.
