Who do you say that I am as a Muslim?

I just joined this forum site and did not realize that some of the participants are of the Islamic Faith. Please teach me what you believe according to the Quran.

Let’s start with the all important question of who is Jesus. The Christians on this site bear the same testimony as the Apostle Peter that Jesus is the Christ, God in the flesh. As a non-Catholic Christian, I believe that Jesus is building the church with the testimony that Jesus is the Christ. Roman Catholic Christians have a different understanding of this passage. However, we all agree that Jesus is the Christ.

Peter Confesses Jesus as the Christ

Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” And they said, “Some say John the Baptist, others say Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter replied, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” And Jesus answered him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven. And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock. I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.” Then he strictly charged the disciples to tell no one that he was the Christ.

I am not a Muslim but I know their answer to your question. They will say that Jesus was (I use past tense) only a prophet like Mohammad who was the last prophet. In stature and prestige they will say that all prophets are equal being messengers of Allah.

They chastize Christians for taking Jesus as God because we adore him too much and make him a god. Other less than honest Muslims will tell you that we are associating God with partner.

Everytime I hear this my heart bleeds - for the blasphemy and for them. If only they know that Jesus loves them too much to die for their sins and that Jesus truly can bring them to the Father and to be their Savior. It is so sad that they do not know what they are missing. It is so sad that thay could not experience the love of Jesus in a personal way and how much Jesus loves them.

a blessed messenger of God Almighty . It’s part of our faith to respect him , to respect Mother Mary (peace be upon them). We believe Jesus (p) did not die on the Cross ; God raised him up & he will come back to kill the anti Christ (p) before the last day.

Do Muslims believe in the Trinity? NO

Muslims believe in the Absolute Oneness of God, Who is a Supreme Being free of human limitations, needs and wants. He has no partners in His Divinity. He is the Creator of everything and is completely separate from His creation.

God says in the Quran regarding the Trinity:

"People of the Book (Jews and Christians)! Do not exceed the limits in your religion, and attribute to God nothing except the truth.

The Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary, was only a Messenger of God, and His command that He conveyed unto Mary, and a spirit from Him.

So believe in God and in His Messengers, and do not say: ‘God is a Trinity.’

Give up this assertion; it would be better for you. God is indeed just One God.

Far be it from His glory that He should have a son. To Him belongs all that is in the heavens and in the earth. God is sufficient for a guardian" (Quran 4:171).

Thank you so much Muslim Woman for your answer. How did you make your determination of who Jesus is or was? What is your source to make that conclusion? How do you see Mary in adoration as a Muslim? What are the theological implications if Jesus did did not die on the cross? I proclaim that Jesus is the Christ the Son of God by the same revelation as the Apostle Peter. God Almighty revealed to me that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God. I am looking forward in discussing Jesus in much greater depth.

But Muslims see quite clearly that in fact, God Almighty revealed in the Qur’an, which is His Speech, verbatim, preserved entirely through the generations, that Jesus was… what you can read in those verses (sparing Rueben J again), and that it is far from the glory of the Almighty that he should have a son.

That’s why I think we should start first with understanding ‘God’ before we tackle the issue of Jesus.

Thanks for your post. I believe God almighty spoke revelation to mankind as recorded in the Holy Bible. Therefore, God speaks to mankind through His Word, the Holy Bible. The Quran and the Holy Bible both cannot be true at the same time, correct?

We both can’t be right at the same time on the main issue for eternal life. In contrast, Roman Catholics, Orthodox, and Protestants can conflict with each other, but could be right at the same time on the essentials in regards to eternal life. Actually, Catholics, Orthodox, and Protestants are in complete unity in proclaiming Jesus as the Christ the Son of the living God to Muslim throughout the world. The Jesus in the Qu’ran cannot save you from your sins. You believe in a different Jesus than the historical Jesus, or the living Jesus who intercedes for us Christians (Catholics, Orthodox, Protestants, Anglicans, etc). Please let me know if you disagree.

When I read parts of the Qu’ran, it sure seemed that it was proclaiming that Christians and Jews were apostate and children of Satan. Is that correct, according to the Qu’ran?

all Prophets (pbut) taught us to worship one God. Jesus (p) also taught u that God is greater than All. The most important matter is not to take diety besides God. Jewish , Christians , Muslims holy books teaches the same thing

nuh. In NT , Jesus (p) scolded some Jews as seeds of devil etc. Quran address Jews & Christians as people of the holy books.

Yes , Quran described how Jews were blessed & cursed in the past & what they will do in the future but it never says Jews & Christians are childern of Satan.

I am an Ahmadi peaceful Muslim. We believe that Jesus did not die a cursed death on Cross. Our Merciful God Allah saved him. Jesus died a peaceful and natural death later in India were lost ten tribes of Israel resided. The rest our other friends have already explained to you.

I love Jesus and Mary as I do love Buddha and Krishna

I think in so far as muslims worship the God of Abraham, the God of the old testament..we can be sure that they at least worship the same God.  However, they have a very different understanding of who He is, and don't believe in His trinitarian nature, nor His message of salvation through Jesus Christ.

It is up to God who will be with Him in heaven, and we must not judge muslims because of their belief, rather we must love them and share Christ's truth in charity as we are called to do:)

Do you understand that you love a different Jesus and different Mary? The true living Jesus lived a perfect life, died on the cross and was raised from the dead. Therefore, we do not know the same Jesus or the same God. Do you agree what that conclusion?

No, that is not correct.

No, holding on to the “essentials” of the Islamic faith is a sure way of eternal salvation. There is no salvation apart from Christ and His Catholic Church, for there is no other name under heaven–other than Jesus Christ–given under heaven among men whereby we can be saved.

** It is surprising that only peter knew something different to what the others understood Jesus to be. All the others understood Jesus to be a prophet only.
I thank God that good news was given by Jesus to apostle Peter and not to Paul. The status of Jesus has been explained many times on this forum. We believe Jesus to be just a man of God i.e. a prophet only. But more can be written on this subject to explain the Islamic point fully.**
