Was it Peter the first Pope? Or Paul the Apostle to the Gentiles? Or John the Beloved?

Do you mean aspostle, one of the twelve people directly linked to Jesus Christ, or more general, a messenger?

Jesus Christ said the greatest prophet was St. John the Evangelizer (Baptist).

Besides being the Saint of impossible causes and writing a book on Scripture, he didn’t do much.

We don’t know people’s hearts, they were all really great except for the one who was a great apostle to another master.

I still like St. Jude. Impossible cases, an important children’s hospital named after him, and my dad’s patron saint. The greatest in my book.

The Twelve and Paul.
John the Theologian.

James, Peter, and John were pillars in the church. Although, after the Resurrection, the first apostle to see Jesus was Cephas (Peter), and then the others. Peter prayer for Tabitha and she was raised from the dead. Peter was the first to recognize that Jesus was “the Messiah, the Son of the living God”. Of them, John, originally a follower of John the Baptist, was the only one that was present at the foot of the cross – he did not abandon Jesus. He cared for the Virgin Mary (John 19:25-27) as Jesus wanted, and was the first of the twelve to see the empty tomb. He is known as John the Theologian. Apostolos means one sent with a message.

I say Saint John the Beloved Disciple. I love 1 John 4:16. It was a huge turning point in my spiritual development.

For the Irish people it was Saint Patrick, the Apostle of Ireland.
Asking who was the Greatest is like asking ’ What is the greatest part of the Seamless Robe ?’

Yes. And?

And Jesus told them not to worry about such things. It’s not important who’s the greatest. The only important thing is that they loved God enough to make it to heaven, that we follow in their footsteps, and that we lead others on the same path. I think it’s fine to have a favorite saint or apostle, but it’s not important who was the most holy. My favorite saints are the ones I have something in common with, so I guess they would be the greatest saints to me. They are the ones that can help me the most to grow in holiness. Other saints would be better for other people. I think it’s innocent enough to have this discussion, but it might not be too useful in your spiritual growth.

It was each one of them. Christ chose them. He chose no one before or after, including any of us.
