Who gave the world the Bible?

Please prove your last remark.

And FYI there is no 'self-explaining" bible.
This is true. This assumption has led to the creation of many denominations.
The Holy Spirit guides Christians to the truth,
This is true. All Christians believe this. The question is how is this accomplished?
not man nor a man’s church. If this is believed then it is placed above God.
True if a man is following the teachings of a man like say like: Jon Smyth, Charles Parham, Jon Calvin or Henry VIII then they are likely not in the fullness of truth.
Instead it would be wise to follow the Church founded by the Son of Man.

My intention here is not to debate. There is no I’m right you’re wrong, as we both are fallible, and a debate would prove nothing.

And speaking of nothing, I have yet to see scripitural proof that claims your claim of the bible coming from any church.
I was using actual history. Scriptures are writen in the context of actual history. But what scriptures are you looking for? Something to say “Thus sayeth the Lord the Catholic Church has given you the scriptures”? You won’t find it. But lets follow scriptures and history and logic.
Matt 28:16-20
16Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in[a] the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
We can note that all authority is given Jesus. He then turns around and says “therefore go”. Specifically telling his disciples to go and make disciples of all men. Jesus indicates the Trinity and Baptism teaching them to obey everything he commanded. This is known as the great commission. He’s telling his disciples to do this. But is this commission just for them? No. Its for the church. Both Catholics and Protestants believe that this great commission is for all believers. So Authority given to Jesus and Jesus gives authority to the church. Note what Jesus tell Peter here:
18And I tell you that you are Peter,[c] and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades[d] will not overcome it.[e]
debates about the Papacy aside what can we note from this verse in Matt 16? Jesus will build his Church his Ekklesia (a gathering of those called out. Note: the Roman Senate was also an Ekklesia) or translated church. Jesus isn’t idicating just those called out in Jerusalem but for all time. All Believers are those called out or in the Church. Note also that there is authority with the Church because the gates of hell will not overcome it. So Jesus establishes and builds (continually) his church. So in Jerusalem to Antioch in the very early days believers in what the apostles taught them call themselves the way as we see in Acts
and asked him for letters to the synagogues in Damascus, so that if he found any there who belonged to the Way, whether men or women, he might take them as prisoners to Jerusalem.
Christians started calling themselves the Way which the Antiochians called them Christians
The disciples were called Christians first at Antioch.
And we see with Ignatius letter to the Smyrneans that he follows this trend of metamorphasis of what Christians are calling themselves and calls them universal
multitude [of the people] also be; even as, wherever Jesus Christ is, there is the Catholic Church
Who we see being between 98 and 117 AD and well with in the period of having met some of the Apostles himself. The fact is when we read 1 Cor. we see Pauls appeal to be united
appeal to you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another so that there may be no divisions among you and that you may be perfectly united in mind and thought.
because indeed he regarded the entire group of believers as being one body in Romans
5so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others
There is no separation of the Ekklesia but its unified as one body which calls itself Catholic by the end of the 1st Century as we see with Ignatius. So that this body has been given the Great Commission to teach others to believe in Jesus. By this time the entire OT has been written and the NT writers to include Paul uses the Greek translations of the OT to teach this body of believers. They aren’t quoting in Hebrew interestingly enough. Most the missionary journeys is in Turkey and Greece so the language use is Greek since it is the common tongue. The LXX Greek Translation of the Bible includes other books as we see with Hebrews 11:35
Women received back their dead, raised to life again. Others were tortured and refused to be released, so that they might gain a better resurrection
which refers directly to this book of 2 Maccabees 7
The mother was especially admirable and worthy of honorable memory. Though she saw her seven sons perish within a single day, she bore it with good courage because of her hope in the Lord. She encouraged each of them in the language of their fathers. Filled with a noble spirit, she fired her woman’s reasoning with a man’s courage, and said to them, “I do not know how you came into being in my womb. It was not I who gave you life and breath, nor I who set in order the elements within each of you. Therefore the Creator of the world, Who shaped the beginning of man and devised the origin of all things, will in His mercy give life and breath back to you again, since you now forget yourselves for the sake of his laws.”

cont…

So you can see that 1. Jesus commands his church to teach. 2. That Church teaches what Jesus gave them 3. Calls itself Catholic by the end of the 1st Century 4. Quotes books in the LXX but not in the Tenakh. The bible says of itself that it is the inspired word of God. Inspired directly translated God breathed
16All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,
God breathed is interesting because one of the Early Names of the Holy Spirit is Ruach which can mean wind or breath. So the Church is to teach and all scriptures are God breathed. Interesting to note as already discussed the Protestants use only what is in the Tanakh and miss out on other inspired works. That the Catholics, Orthodox, and Coptic churches have. Also note that at the time of this writing Paul was specifically speaking of the OT so are we to assume that leaves out the NT as the NT hadn’t been entirely written as yet? So we can see that Jesus creates his church authorises it to teach and also has created scriptures which as we see with this verse is also to teach. Would he keep the two separate? No. What do we see here futher with this verse?
14But as for you, continue in **what you have learned **and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, 15and how from infancy you have known the holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
We see two aspects of how Timothy Learned. Timothy was both orally taught and also taught by scriptures and is encouraged to continue in his study of Scriptures. As is evident in 2 Thes here
15So then, brothers, stand firm and hold to the teachings[c] we passed on to you, whether by word of mouth or by letter.
This is the continued work of the Church. To teach by two methods. Orally (continuity of truth through oral tradition) and by Scriptures. This is how the faith is passed on by the Church to the world to fulfill the great commandment.

This is true. This assumption has led to the creation of many denominations.

We are to follow God and not man

“therefore go”. Specifically telling his disciples to go and make disciples of all men.
He is speaking to each and every one of us. As Christians we are His disciplies, and He and only He is the authority.

How could the Bible show that the Bible came from the Church? I thought you understood the fallacy of circular reasoning…
Actually, the argument is spiral.
  1. We first assume the books of the Bible are uninspired.
  2. However, we conclude that they are historically accurate. The oldest manuscripts of the Gospels are from, for example, only one hundred years after they were first written. Compare that to anything we have from the philosopher Plato, where the earliest manuscripts we have are from 1300 years after this death
  3. According to these accurate historical records, Jesus indeed founded a Church and a Church existed since the earliest days of Christianity.
  4. Jesus gave his Church authority according to these records.
  5. The Church continued throughout the centuries, and convened councils at the end of the fourth century declaring the Canon to be inspired.
This isn’t a circular argument. The first conclusion (the books are historically accurate) doesn’t depend on the last conclusion (the books are inspired).

I do not have the full truth as neither do you, And simply as you believe differently than I, that does not give you truth over me.
There is only one truth. The Holy Spirit does not lead in different directions. We must not fall prey to the evil one’s relativism. Only one Church has the fulness of revealed truth. I wandered around for 35 years, then joined her. I know this will not satisfy you, since that one Church has the horrible word “catholic” associated with it. If only the Pope would rename her the “Truth in Life Fellowship”, maybe we could get more to see the whole revealed truth. As it is, we must pray for the unity that Saint Paul longed for.

This is not “my church” vs. “your church”. We are in the epic battle between good and evil. United we stand, and divided we fall. Proof of this surrounds us.

We are to follow God and not man
So, we do not need a church? We are just a bunch of individual believers doing whatever we think is best? This most certainly will lead to chaos - very similar to the fracturing of the Body of Christ that we are seeing already.

How come you condemn following man, when it is man who told you that you need the bible alone? Did Jesus give Luther all authority in His Church? No. But He did give it to Kepha, and Kepha passed that authority on. It’s why there even is a Church today, and why there even is a bible. Go back, far back into the early church history and you will see that it is set up exactly right.

Were there some bad Popes? Sure, but remember that there was a pretty lousy Apostle, too - and he was handpicked by Christ just as Kepha was.

As am I for your brother.

Jesus most definitely founded a church, but nowhere in God’s Word does it say the the catholic church is the true church. That claim is nothing more than a convulated assumption.

The catholic church is not Christianity in any manner shape or form. Christianity is the following of Christ by those who have excepted Him as their Lord and Savior. Those who follow in His steps and not the steps of man telling you what he wants you to believe.

Do you hear yourself? Everything you just said comes straight out of the Catholic Cathechism. You don’t know the Catholic Church anymore than I know the church you belong to.

John Henry Newman, a convert, said I believe that when one delves into history they would cease to be protestant. Your response sounds like one of a stubborn child. Know what you’re talking about before you put it to words.you need to read…a lot!

Dissappointed by your ignorance, but expected it!!!

Christalone, maybe you should go bother the Mormons, Buddists, or Hindus since you are just so contrary.

Wait…they don’t?
The Catholic Church includes the possibility of salvation for people from other faiths, with the understanding that it would be much easier to be saved if such people were Catholic.

Trace it back! Each Catholic Priest can trace his hands-on ordination clear back to one of the twelve Apostles - a perfect, unbroken line. What else do you need? For Protestants, no matter the denomination, their church’s trail goes back max 500 years before it goes cold. No comparison.

The bible is incomplete and tells you so in several places: Luke 3:18, John 20:30 and 21:25 as well as Acts 2:40 among others. It was NEVER intended to be the foundation of any faith - it is a supplement. The Church functioned for 350 years with no bible. It had scripture, but no bible. How does a “bible only” Christian blow this off? If the bible is absolutely necessary for faith, then the pre-bible Church was illicit and you have just proved the Mormon’s claim of a total apostasy. Sure you want to do that? Protestant’s reliance on the MAN MADE doctrine of “bible alone” is what causes confusion about the origins of the Church.
The catholic church is not Christianity in any manner shape or form.
I caution you regarding conduct rule #7

Look, you came to a Catholic forum. You darned sure are going to run into a stone wall of defense of the Catholic faith. We can defend the CC clear back to Christ. Other than the Eastern Orthodox Church, NO OTHER can do the same.

I didn’t mean that Catholics are making a circular argument. I think that Christalone is looking for a bit of an Ouroboros by asking for Scripture that defines the canon of Scripture.
Each Catholic Priest can trace his hands-on ordination clear back to one of the twelve Apostles - a perfect, unbroken line.
A bit off-topic, but can priests literally give a list of names that leads back to the Twelve and Christ himself? Because that would be crazy awesome.

What about Oriental Orthodox and the Assyrian Church of the East?

Typical catholic response. Why don’t you go bother them? They need you wisdom more than I do, as they are cults and not Christian.

Why don’t you defend God’s Word the way you defend the cf?

There is no “sacred table of contents” that fell from heaven. Christalone has to rely on MEN of the Catholic Church, guided by the Holy Spirit - as we all must.
A bit off-topic, but can priests literally give a list of names that leads back to the Twelve and Christ himself? Because that would be crazy awesome.
This tradition, which Kepha quoted from scripture, by the way, began in Acts (Acts 1:12-25), with Matthias replacing Judas. It has continued in an unbroken line ever since.
What about Oriental Orthodox and the Assyrian Church of the East?
Oriental Orthodox is the Eastern Orthodox. Assyrian Orthodox, being an orthodox church, has the same history. However, one measure of the true Church is: Which one has spread to every nation on earth? Catholic (catholic simply means “universal”) mass is celebrated around the clock, around the world.

Why don’t you defend God’s Word the way you defend the cf?
Dude, (and forgive me for calling you dude) the two are inseparable. Christ is the WORD made flesh, and He founded one Church on earth. That Church is His Body, with Christ as its head. Because of His Church, you even have a bible to read! Give thanks for the blessing of scripture that you have, man!

Probably not, but we can trace the line of popes down pretty nicely.
