Hmmm…

I bet you that the first converts to Mary were all the virgins that didn’t have to be sacrificed to their god(s).

Maybe Mary had a soft spot in her heart for those “virgins”.

🙂

I don’t think they had to be virgins necessarily. The movie Apocalypto took place pre-apparition and was based on history (all sorts of people were sacrificed). I’m hoping a sequel will come out which includes OLG.

PS - did you know that “Guadalupe” was a misinterpretation of the Aztec word “quatasulpe”?

Quatasulpe means “She who crushes the head of the serpent.”

Genesis 3:15. Goose bumps…

That’s amazing! This should be used in more Apologetics for the defense of Our Lady.😃

I agree. While Mary was certainly blessed of God to be chosen to be the mother of the long-awaited Mashiach Nagid (Messiah the Prince) as every good Jewish mother wanted to be.

As a matter of fact, we respect her soooooo much that we hold to her desire “do whatever He tells you…” not: “whatever I tell you…” Mary, in her obedience and need for a savior herself, knew that she needed to direct attention away from herself an onto her Son.

Mary would be grieved and her heart pierced even more if she knew how many more churches and shrines there are in her name and dedicated to her than there are to her Son, Jesus Christ.
For what it’s worth there are many churches and shrines that are dedicated to other Saints as well. I honestly don’t think she’d find either of that offensive.

Besides, many of the shrines and churches named for her came because of her many apparitions throughout the years.

There’s also a place in Spain called Guadalupe and it also has an image of Mary. So while in the case of Juan Diego in Mexico, it was probably a misinterpretation of a N’ahuatl word, they associated it with the Guadalupe of Spain.

But still… the N’ahuatl word’s meaning seems to work too. 😉

Ah, my friend…therein lies the rub. It would be better if they made sure that the messages were in line with Scripture, then they would realize that the Mary of Scripture would never say some of the things the apparitions say. Nor would the Mary of Scripture ever draw attention to herself by apparitions and asking for shrines to be built in dedication to her or her name (such as the apparition of Guadalupe).

The shrines to Mary are there to lead people to her son Jesus.
You make so many presumptuous assertions of what Mary “would never” say or do, that it’s difficult to know where to begin. Scripture!! Scripture!! Scripture!!
The Scriptures are Holy and Divine and Inerrant.
With that in mind, you might want to spend more time
MEDITATING on the scriptures instead of just quoting them.
It’s one thing to know them, another thing altogether to PONDER THEM. And PONDERING them is what the early Christians and the Catholic church have been doing for 2000 years now.
That is why the Catholic Church UNDERSTANDS the SIGNIFICANCE of Mary, while the Bible-only folks
think she was just a nice lady.

Elizabeth, herself a recipient of a great miracle from God,
greeted Mary (under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit) with
“BLESSED art THOU amongst women!!” and, even though much older, felt unworthy of Mary’s visit and expressed it by saying (still under the impulse of the Holy Spirit):
“and who am I that the Mother of my Lord should
come to ME??”
Read the 1st 2 chapters of Luke. Then read them again.
And again. And again. What does Mary do about everything connected to Christ?
“And Mary his mother treasured all these things,
continually meditating upon them in her heart.”
And Mary knew that her Son was the Lord from Heaven.
And pondered and meditated on that.
Have you ever read Mary’s Magnificat in Luke after Elizabeth praises her under the prompting of the Holy Spirit?
Read the Magnificat over and over again.
This wasn’t just a nice lady. She, barely 16 years old at the time, if that old, was full of the Spirit of God. Read the Magnificat.
Ponder it. Get some good Catholic literature on Mary.
CATHOLIC ANSWERS publishes a wonderful little book
called MEETING MARY, by Kenneth J. Howell.
It is deep reflection on the scriptural types fulfilled in Mary as well as a study of her deep spirituality. It’s well worth the $8.95 !!

Know something? I think that this post was a…

Oh, there are Mary Haters out there.

I can’t repeat what they’ve said about her here because I’d get banned for using vulgarity.

In short, they’ve expressed a wretched discomfort and complete anger and wrath at the mention of her name.

What do Anti-Marians and Satan have in common?

They both hate Mary.

To think…that God would use her as a transport vehichle and leave her to her own sin “after” He got what He wanted from her (the usage of her body as a taxi cab ride).

It’s dispicable to me when people imply that God used her.
Yes, I’ve seen this kind of venom, too…I think that some people (and I’ve said this before…)-- I think that there are some people just:crying: hate Mary more than they:crying: love Jesus.
I remember something He said about the last judgment, when there will be those to whom He will say: “Depart from me, you workers of iniquity! I never knew you!!”
To the contrary…God has always justly rewarded those who’ve served Him and who has served God (and us) more than Mary?

Thanks to her, Jesus came. He would’ve come anyway, but God chose her. God did. Not us. I think I’m going to roll with God with His choice.

First of all, let me repeat what has been said before: **Scripture is Sacred Tradition. It’s simply the written-down part of Tradition.

As far as the apparition at Guadelupe…My friend, you don’t have any idea what that is all about. If you did, you could never criticize it so.
The Mary who told people “Do whatever He tells you”, spoke and more people were added to the Church than on the Day of Pentecost! Now that’s an:clapping: :dancing: ** evangelist**!!!

Counter Question:

Who loves Mary?

I do!

👍
I do. I love her because she was a humble, obedient servant of the Lord. She knew that she was a sinner in need of a savior just like we all are. I love her because she knew that Jesus is the one people should be praying to, adoring, worshipping, and offering their complete devotion to and not her!!!

The biggest ‘rub’ for your position, of course, is that Scriptures is part of Catholic Holy Tradition. Sciptures did not ‘start’ The Church, but The Church’s Tradition resulted in a “Scriptures.”

But you’ve been here long enough to begin to ‘realise’ that and hopefully ‘journey’ to the fullness of the (partial)Truth you possess.

I pray that you will someday know the full truth and not the twisted version you possess.:gopray:

If you love someone, you do not ignore them. You do not tell lies about them!!!

You proved my point exactly. The apparitions are NOT the Mary of the Bible, they are demons disguising themselves as her. The Mary of the Bible would NEVER ask for churches, shrines or prayers be said in her name or directed to her.

Then I suggest the entire Catholic dogma about Mary be thrown out for they are telling lies about her and smearing her good name.

The the Marian apparitions of Guadalupe, Lourdes, Fatima were not demons posing as Mary. Just because they happened after the bible doesn’t mean they didn’t happen.

I was only saying that a lot of churches that honor Mary are because of the many Marian Apparitions throughout the ages and also because she was chosen to be the mother of God. My own parish honors her as a peace maker, but that doesn’t take away from Jesus. It’s just honor and recognition. She was HIS mother and the Mass is all about HIM.

So, with that in mind should we not name our churches after other saints, as they probably wouldn’t have asked for any recognition or honor either.

SolaFide, you are not a Catholic, therefore you have no clue what the Blessed Mother is all about. Should you dare research the Holy Mother’s Apparitions, and find that even the Atheist newspapers printed the Miracle that they saw with Fatima, you would surely fall on your knees and ask Jesus for forgiveness for what you have said about His Mother. I shall pray a Hail Mary for you. Your profile lists you as religion as being “Christ Follower”. How can one follow Christ if they are to treat His Mother this way? Furthermore, what exactly is a Christ Follower? We are all Christ Followers. What “denomination” are you? Perhaps I can understand you better…

BTW, if you pray to The Blessed Mother, she will surely lead you on a better path.
