Who hates Mary?

The problem is that amongst the accusations that Catholics honor Mary too much, you can’t find anywhere a non-Catholic who honors her just enough. But they sure can lay it on thick about Paul!

Show me, I started to ask myself, the Evangelical who honors Mary “just enough”. The more I looked, the less I found. For the day to day reality is that my native Evangelicalism recoiled from any and all mention of Mary as though she were leprous. It began to seem to me that Evangelicals could talk all day about St. Paul and never feel as though by focusing 24 hours a day, seven days a week on the thought and life of St. Paul, they were “worshipping Paul” or "giving him “too much honor”. That is because Evangelicals rightly understand that Jesus comes to us through St. Paul and there is no conflict between the two (even though St. Paul demonstrates a lot more character flaws than Mary ever did). Yet I had seen with my own eyes that the slightest mention of honor paid to Mary by a Catholic immediately brings a flood of warning and remonstrance down upon a Catholic head from well-meaning Evangelicals who talk as though a devotion to Mary for ten minutes will surely sunder a soul from the love of the living God while a lifetime of meditation on Paul is all part of living the Christian life. That’s why, despite the claims to honor her “just enough” the reality was that there was effectively no attention paid to her beyond singing “Silent Night” each Christmas

“All generations shall call me blessed”

: it seems many protestants are so anti-Catholic that they give barely any thought to the significance of this statement, other than that she was “blessed” to have given birth to our Savior. it’s more along the lines of just being lucky. nothing else.

You may have a “different” meaning of “church” if you think there are “Churches of Mary”, ie what “churches” are for.

You don’t seem to understand what shrines are, and we can certainly help you to understand them.

I have NO idea what the last two sentences are about, and am looking forward to your explanation of what you mean by them!

Quran Chapter 19 is called Mary, about her, she is respected in Islam, although it is warned not to worship her as a goddess.
 
FaithofAbraham, no disrespect but I don’t care what your “Quran” says about Mary. Only the Holy Bible is accurate. And it is the Blessed Mother to you.

Righteousone, people have called her Mary throughout this entire thread, but you only correct Faith of Abraham. He was being nice.

We Catholics don’t generally say Mary when referring to her, but we call her the Blessed Mother. People don’t generally call their mothers by their first names. My mother wouldn’t have been pleased to hear one of us say, “Hey, Irene!”

The thing I always want to say to people who treat the Blessed Mother with disregard or disrespect is, “Watch your mouth. Think about WHOSE Mama your talking about!” I don’t want to hear bad thing said about my mother, and I’ve got to think He feels the same way.

I don’t like anyone who calls the Blessed Mother “Mary”. She is much worthier than that. If I were to correct everyone on these threads about this, I’d have carpal tunnel by now.

It is most interesting to prefer such "Blessed Mother’ expression. St. Gregorij The Theologian is reminding us that Mother of God is most important to understand Incarnation, to be close to God Father:

it actually never even occurred to me until someone mentioned how important our Blessed Mother’s title is. (still not sure which is most correct or when to use them).

the thing with non-Catholics is that when they see us talking about little things, they don’t realize that we have already addressed the big ones. when you’ve been around something long enough, you sift through the big things and start to perfect the small things.
with 33,000 split denominations with differing ideas, it’s no wonder they are still sifting those things big and small.

There is no “title” used in the “Hail Mary”.

In the Gospels she is just called Mary, she doesn’t have a title.

Here we go again, saying things I never said. You really have to stop this. I am not talking about my beautiful “Hail Mary” in which I know by heart, including the Rosary I also know by heart and pray every night. To pray to the Blessed Mother, brings you closer to her son Jesus Christ.

I have about 20 Bibles. Even a Jehovah’s Witness one. I favor KJV for general use and the online Mechon Mamre for questions about Hebrew-English translations of the Tanach.

Does it say in the Bible to call Mary by a title instead of her name?

The Virgin Mother has said “ALL NATIONS SHALL CALL ME BLESS-ED”.
