Who hates Mary?

I think Jesus is blessed too, far more than Mary. But I don’t really call him “Blessed Son” either. Sometimes Jesus the Messiah. Do you have a title you normally call Jesus instead of just Jesus?
Since The Word of God is truth,
and it states that all nations will call Mary blessed,
then do you also call her “blessed”?

If you refuse to call Mary blessed,
then are you “not” part of all the nations mentioned in Scripture?

I must be a member of one of those nations that call her blessed.

I will offer my views on this thread by sayig, “If She is good enough for Jesus, She is good enough for us.” That was a quote by Fr Corapi, a well known priest of the catholic faith. I have heard others say similar things about our Blessed Mother, whose name is Mary.

He also stated that our Heavenly Mother was conceived without sin, and his reasoning is that God would not want His Mother to be touched by satan, not even for a split second. This resulted in a Woman born without original sin, and as such She was incapable of committing sin.

‘When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved, he said to his mother, “Woman, behold, your son.” Then he said to his disciple, “Behold, your mother.” And from that hour the disciple took her into his home. John 19:26,27’

Jesus loved His Mother very much, so much that He assumed Her into heaven and made Her Queen over all of heaven and earth.
Jesus wants us to love Her as He loves Her. I cannot understand how or why someone would hate our Lord’s Mother, unless their hatred of Her is due to the influence of evil. If one loves Jesus, it only makes sense that one should love the Woman that gave birth to Him. She is, afterall, the Mother of God. To reject Her is to reject Her Son.

The Truth is pure simplicity…Love.

Protestants point out that Jesus said all the believers were the same as his mother, which seems to say she is no different than any other. Do Catholics have a belief about that one?
We believe that Mary is the proto-Christian, and that it is when we are like her that we are at our best, as Christians.
Matthew 12:46-50 While he yet talked to the people, behold, his mother and his brethren stood without, desiring to speak with him. Then one said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to speak with thee. But he answered and said unto him that told him, Who is my mother? and who are my brethren? And he stretched forth his hand toward his disciples, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren!
For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.
Yes - this means that Mary’s glory is not in the fact that she gave birth, but in the fact of her obedience to God - which we all ought to imitate.

In another place, when someone blesses His mother’s womb and breasts, He tells her that it is not His mother’s womb and breasts that are blessed, but rather, that she is perfect in her obedience to God - again, a quality that we are all expected to imitate.

I don’t presume to know your thoughts and emotions, but you seem to think you Know they thoughts and hearts of all non-Catholic Christians? Don’t be so presumptuous!
Well, it’s been my impression that non-Catholic Christians don’t believe in the veneration of Mary.

You can correct me here and I will accept that correction gladly.

I’m not saying anything negative, but it’s a fact that Muslims love Mary more than do Non-Catholic Christians.

Is Mary praised in non-Catholic Christian churches?

Do NCC’s (non-Catholic Christians) have entire books written on her?

Is she seen as pure, undefiled and sinless by NCC’s?

I’m not posing these questions to make NCC’s seem any less Christian because they don’t do these things, but I’m posing them (rhetorically of course) because I know the answers.

Honestly, if you can show me that I’m wrong, I’d glady accept that correction because my being wrong would mean that we’d have one more thing in common.

🙂

Love is a state of the heart, not something you can judge about another.

I have never heard anything bad said about Mary in any church I’ve attended. I have been to Bible studies about her life as well as taught she was a great role-model for all women. You posted a protestant song about her yourself. Somehow I think it required love to write that.
Do NCC’s (non-Catholic Christians) have entire books written on her?
yes, actually we do
Is she seen as pure, undefiled and sinless by NCC’s?
She is not seen as sinless, but she was pure, honest, had an awesome faith and trust in God and should be an example to all women.

We don’t believe in praying to her, not because we think badly of her or don’t love her, but because we just don’t believe we should. I LOVE my great-grandmother I learned many things from her and have an entire book on her life. When she was here on earth I did ask her to pray for me. I believe she is praying for me now as she is in heaven. But I do not pray and ask her things now. It is against what I believe BUT it does not make me love her less. Though I do not I know that this forum has many of non-Catholic Christian posters who pray the rosary every day. I stand by my statement that you were being presumptuous

Believe me, if your grandmother was the Mother of God, we’d all be asking her to pray for us! This is what Catholics do that you view as ‘praying to Mary.’

Your analogy is a common enough erroneous one used by ‘Protestants’ that ignore the glaring difference between their examples and The Mother of God. (With all due respect to your ancestor)

At every Mass, the first thing Catholics do collectively is to confess our sins to God and before each other, and pray that they be forgiven so we may be worthy to be in His Presence (Eucharist) and during that recitation, we “pray” to Mary (The supreme Christian) all the Angels and Saints, and each other, to pray to God for forgiveness.

*“I confess to Almighty God, and to you my brothers and sisters, that I have sinned through my own fault. In my thoughts and in my words; in what I have done, and what I have failed to do; and I ask The Blessed Mary, ever virgin, all the Angels and Saints, and you, my brothers and sisters, to pray for me, to the Lord, Our God.” *

That probably means nothing to non-Catholics, but it is for every Christian gathering.

FaithofAbraham;3176383:
Revelations 12:17 says the same thing:

Revelation 12:17 (King James Version)
And the dragon was wroth with the woman,
and went to make war with the remnant of her seed,
which keep the commandments of God,
and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.

Boy, I bet that was a can of worms you wish you didn’t open up!

👍
No, I have similar views too. I think the woman there represents faithful Israel from which Jesus came, and Mary can symbolize faithful Israel too.

Likewise the Whore of Babylon represents unfaithful Israel.

Syele mentioned that she knows many non-catholic christians that pray the rosary every day. This is wonderful news, and I hope the number of people praying the rosary continues to increase.

The rosary is not Mary centered. It is Christ centered. It is the gospel. Any christian believing in the gospel of Jesus Christ should pray the rosary. The “Our Father” is a prayer given to us by the Son of God. The “Hail Mary” is right out of the gospel. “Hail, full of grace. The Lord is with you,” as spoken by the messenger St Gabriel to our Blessed Mother. “Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus,” as spoken by Elizabeth to our Blessed Mother. When you mediate on the 20 mysteries of the bible as you pray the rosary, it is all gospel. It is all centered on Jesus.

As for the Muslim faith, I do not know very much about it. I do know that it has been hyjacked by a bunch of radicals that preach hatred, which is most likely the work of satan himself.

I think that the muslims have a book of their koran named Mary. From what I have read and heard, they hold a great respect for our Blessed Mother. They also recognize Jesus as a great prophet, although I don’t think they view Him as anything other than a prophet. Now, this is where the christian faith and the muslim faith have some common ground. We find that commonality in Mary, the Mother of God. As Bishop Fulton J. Sheen expressed, the conversion of the muslim faith will come about through Mary, the Mother of God.

Lastly, Mary should be placed in the highest esteem. I do not mean worshipped, but adored, and for so many reasons. She is the One that will crush the head of the serpent. Our Lord has given Her great power over evil. God has placed great enmity, a deep seated hatred, between Her and the devil.

Her model of faith is one to be copied by us all. Obedience. “Fiat. Mihi Secundum Verbum Tuum,” let it be done to me according to your word. She was obedient to God, and when the Word became flesh, God was obedient to Her. Should we not be also?
“Do exactly what He tells you to do.”

I’ve never heard this. I had no idea non-Catholics prayed the rosary. I have a friend I’ve always wanted to give a rosary, but didn’t think I should. She’s Lutheran, but has been very open to discussion about the Blessed Mother. She and I have found a lot of commonality in what we believe.

I know next to nothing about Islam. It’s very interesting that they have a book about the Blessed Mother. But if they don’t think Jesus is God, why do they have an interest in Mary? Just curious, since this is the first I’ve heard of this interest.

Lastly, Mary should be placed in the highest esteem. I do not mean worshipped, but adored, and for so many reasons. She is the One that will crush the head of the serpent. Our Lord has given Her great power over evil. God has placed great enmity, a deep seated hatred, between Her and the devil.

Overall, I think this is one terrific post. Thank you.

Amen…Mary, God’s most perfrect creation of all!

On loving Mary…

I posted a statement that Catholics and Muslims love Mary more than Protestants.

It drew a strong admonition by someone I consider a friend here (and of course, still consider a friend)…so I posted the following thread to see if I was wrong to say what I believed to be true, that “Catholics and Muslims love Mary more than Protestants”.

forums.catholic-questions.org/showthread.php?t=210962

If anybody would like to defend their respective religion against my assertion, feel free to contribute.

🙂

the difference is that you pray to both. I pray to neither. and the definition of Prayer is different for Catholics and protestants, making it hard for you to really understand what I am saying.
Syele;3180233:
Actually, I’ve posted an article in Time Magazine that shows more mainstream Protestant beginning to incorporate Mary into their classes. This is a recent phenomena. And I love it.

But this in no way shows veneration for her as Catholics and Muslims do. The older the religion, the more they love Mary. The same goes for Protestants. The oldest Protestant religions love Mary more than the newer denominations do.
Well since you are dead set on believing you know how everyone feels about Mary, I suppose there is no convincing you otherwise. When you have packaged info on how to obtain this ability to know everything about how other people feel, sign me up. There a few people I’d really like to KNOW how they really feel about a couple things.

Can someone be pure and sinless at the same time?
I personally can’t see that. For us, she either is “full of grace” or not.
I believe God is powerful enough to make someone pure even if they committed a venial sin at some point in their past.
Have you ever asked someone to intercede for you? To pray for you? Then you’re guilty of praying to someone. See, there are different type of prayer…the type of prayer that we pray to Mary is to request. Pray literally means to request.
So to ask a Saint in Heaven to pray for you is not wrong if you can ask a sinner on earth who’s prayers availeth “less” and who have less favor with God to pray for you.
As said before the, definition of “pray” is not the same among protestants and Catholics. the same for words like “justification” this complicates the discussion.

that is off topic though… the question was about why people assume Protestants HATE Mary when we clearly don’t. then you went as far as to announce you know who loves her and who doesn’t.
By the way, you do know that The Saints in Heaven are praying for us, right? How do they know “what” to pray for?
(Rev 5:8/8:3)
Of course they pray for us.
Nevertheless, Protestants don’t love Mary anywhere near the level that Catholics love her…even Muslims love her more than Protestants to.
I won’t bother to answer that AGAIN
Why don’t we make that a new thread and see who’s being presumtuous?
you have NO right to say if I love or hate Mary based on my religion! You don’t have any idea who I am or what I think or how I pray or anything else! You cannot read my mind or my heart. and you are rude besides.
