Who here is getting tired of the same old same old?

*You know, the other day I was reflecting on all the ways I have received Jesus in the Eucharist, I have received Him standing in the mouth either placed onto my stuck out tongue, placed into my mouth by a spoon, or place into my mouth from the hand, no tongue sticking out, or placed on my hand and then picking Him up myself from my hand and putting Him into my mouth and on my knees on my tongue, and I realized I have not found any one way more reverent than the other but because of the arguments I keep hearing I kept worrying about it. So, what I finally did was stop worrying about it and I found that no matter what form of reverence was used in receiving Him, all I heard was these words; “The servant of God, my name, receives the precious and Holy Body and Blood of our Lord, God, and Savior Jesus Christ for the remission of her sins and for eternal life. Amen.” I am then filled with a joy that is beyond words and sing I have seen the true Light, I have received the heavenly Spirit, I have found the true faith, worshiping the undivided Trinity who has saved me and all I can do is to ask my God and Savior to let my mouth be filled with His praise because He has counted me worthy to share His holy immortal and spotless Mysteries. Keeping me in sanctification that I may sing His glory meditating on His holiness all the day.
The sheer reverent joy that He has found me worthy of receiving Him and giving myself to Him is what matters and I have not found that one form over another takes away from or adds anything to this very intimate union Jesus Christ has with me in any way shape or form. What I have learned is that worrying about it or arguing about it eats away and erodes this intimate union with Him.

I do not know if this helps anyone but just thought I would share what I discovered when I finally did get tired of one of the same old same old… *

I’m stumped. What’s a “hybrid mass?”

Fraternally,

Br. JR, OSF 🙂
Not sure if this is what ProVobis means, but there are some here in my community who want the EF Mass, in all English, using the OF Lectionary, w/ CITH & EM’sHC as options. It has been called, by a few, a “hybrid Mass”. 🤷

Was I the one who called it the “hybrid” Mass? This seems more like the transitional Mass of the 1960’s which seemed logical at the time but failed to save people from leaving the Church.

CITH is a valid way of receiving communion, but honestly, is not kneeling in front of the Blessed Sacrament and not daring to touch it with one’s hands more reverent than cupping it in your hand? I mean, come on!
Not when the deacon is 83 and his shaky hands can’t hit the target anymore. 😃

Dude kept jamming it into my teeth and once even stuck it into my upper lip and said, “Uh oh… OK… there we go!” 🤷

Seriously, I thought between his age and my wanting to receive on the tounge, it is just a matter of time before Jesus hits the deck. I pictured us both stooping to pick up Jesus and whacking our heads together, looking like a bunch of fools. Now when I am in the good Deacon’s line, I just cup my hands for the sake of both of us, and for Jesus’ sake.

Really, the man is a soldier for Christ and a good friend. I’m just having fun.

It was At Trent who called it a hybrid mass.

If this is what it means, I think it’s a horrible idea. The beauty of the two forms must be protected. Hopefully, with the new missal, this will help in producing the Ordinary Form as it was meant to be. It’s not the last thing that needs to be done to fix what has been done to the OF, but it’s a good beginning.

I for one, would not want such a mass. I’m being selfish here. I like my Franciscan Form. I don’t want to see replaced by either the EF or the OF. I have to admit that the Franciscan form is a hybrid, but not of the EF and OF. It combines Roman and Franciscan traditions. I believe the Benedictines have a form of their own too that combines Roman and Benedictine customs. They don’t want it merged with any other either.

Hybrid is not such a good idea. Thanks for the explanation.

Tongue in cheek referral to the suggestion that we merge the two forms (EF and OF) 🙂

There have been some though

I once attended the tail end of an Episcopal service (downtown Chicago) as I arrived somewhat early for an organ recital back in the 90’s. There were more people in the choir than there were in the congregation. No more than 25 total. I almost felt sorry for them.

Oh yeah, do you know how many attended that organ recital? Would you believe I was the only one? 🤷

Brother JR, this is off topic but what exactly is a Franciscan Form of the Mass? I have seen “Franciscan Traditional Latin Mass” on youtube but I thought you said there was no Gregorian chant used in the Franciscan order? Could you clarify why there might be a difference in the Mass among Franciscans?

well, you had the best seat in the house 🙂

Clearly. But it does remit venial sins, and in that sense it is penance.
Sure. But my point was if kneeling is begging for mercy and its taught by the Church that the Eucharist does not forgive mortal sins but in fact even condemns one who receives the Body and Blood of Christ unworthily, then its not the appropriate time to be begging for mercy.

I agree Br. JR.

SORRY: I meant to quote post # 159

The EF does not suit my prayer life or taste, but I can understand why it may be spiritually edifying for some, and I am glad that we are seeing the EF becoming more available.

I prefer the OF, although, I do not like a lot of the “novelties” (mostly inclusive language, & ‘ad libbing’ )that seem to invade many of the parishes in my area. But I do not want to see a “hybrid Mass”.

For me, the beauty of the Catholic faith is that there is such a broad spectrum of spiritualities that one can choose from, what works for one person, may not for another, but, in the end, hopefully, we are going to end up in the same place!! 😉 😛

I DO! Wow. Love my church and its people. 🙂
Its a nice parish. Although I would protest why there is no regularly scheduled Filipino Mass given that the parish pastor is Filipino. Fr. Sarmed should be given his own parish where he and his parishioners can live out the Chaldean spirituality.

I’ll let him answer, but there is a group of Franciscans that pray a stunningly reverent Mass.

I’m beginning to believe that OF and EF is not a good idea either. I mean how its currently implemented. Because there’s exclusivity, rather than spreading the spirituality. I do agree that the religious communities who have their own rites should be able to keep them because you have a different spirituality than the lay. The lay should have a common Liturgy, be it OF for everyone, EF for everyone, hybrid, or whatever. Whatever the form is, it should apply to all laity.
