Currently I’m playing Tomb Raider (the latest reboot by Suqare Enix) and Far Cry 3 the most.
How is that game? I’m considering buying it. Is it like the old ones made by the original company (1-6)? I liked those more than the newer ones like Underworld.

It’s grittier and more violent than the previous titles, and since this is a reboot, it shows Lara as a more fallible, realistic character in a darker, more sinister world (kind of like what EON did with the James Bond franchise under Daniel Craig). But that said, if you like a game with exploration, treasure hunting, fighting (melee, guns and bows & arrows) and RPG elements (skill development and weapon upgrades) ten you should enjoy it a lot.

Sounds good! I like all the things you mentioned. I’ll probably pick it up on my next trip to Gamestop, then. 🙂

I just fished the Tomb Raider Definitive Edition on my Xbox One. Played it originally last year when the game first came out and the new version looks amazing. It’s a truly great game. Can’t wait for the sequel.

I’m a big fan of the Final Fantasy series. The best were FF6, FF9, and FF12. The MMO games are also quite good.

I had to stop playing borderlands 2 when I encountered the blatent gay “marriage” plugs during a side mission… I resent being “preached to” over leftist social activism when I’m playing a game… Or ever for that matter…

Oh wow, I didn’t know there were additions. I thought it was just an HD remaster. Your selfie incident is funny though :D. I seem to remember spending lots of time in middle school trying to take pictures of all the enemies to get all the sculptures from the sculptor in that secret area near the Forbidden Woods. Trying to take pictures of the bosses was a little difficult. Those were fun times.

I’d never heard of Dynasty Warriors before this either. All I know is that if it is Zelda, then I am interested ;). I may have to cave and get a Wii U when that comes out. And they’ll eventually have a new Zelda anyway. I heard that the next traditional Zelda supposedly has a forest temple the size of Hyrule Field from OoT.
My daughter and I finished Wind Waker and she immediately wanted to start the Second Quest (which is pretty much the same except you get to keep all your figurines and the pictobox). The swift sail was really helpful. Not only does it make you sail faster, but it also ensures that the wind is always at your back. So there’s no need to constantly be taking out the wind waker and changing the direction of the wind. I forgot how much fun the game was.

Maybe I should replay Windwaker :). I’ve been kind of bored at home so I was downloading old games from the Wii Shop Channel over the past couple of weeks but maybe I should spend more time on Zelda. I was in a Zelda craze a couple of years ago when Skyward Sword came out. I’m replaying Secret of Mana right now which was one of my favorite SNES childhood games. It’s a cooperative RPG (up to 3 players) so maybe you and your daughter could both play that sometime if you were interested? There’s a female character that your daughter could play as :p.

Is Second Quest the one where Link gets an invisible hero’s outfit so he’s essentially wearing the blue Outset Island outfit the whole game? The only other difference that I remember was that the Hylian that Valoo, the Deku Tree, and Jabun speak is rendered in English so you know what they’re saying. It’s neat that your daughter is into Zelda 👍. My grandfather used to play Zelda with me when I was little. He tried getting my sister into it but she didn’t really like it, although she’ll play video games with me when I go home to visit my parents. Both she and I initially thought that Link was Zelda, since the game is named the “Legend of Zelda” and you don’t interact with the actual Zelda all that much. 😃

It’s annoying isn’t it? I wish they’d just give you good gameplay without all the thinly-veiled attempts at social commentary. Now I have to semi-research the plot lines before buying to see if there’s anything objectionable as one of the main plot themes that I shouldn’t be supporting, which obviously gives spoilers every once and a while if I do end up buying it.

I’ve long heard of “Secret of Mana”, but never actually played it before. That’s neat that it’s multiplayer. I’ll have to look into it.

Yeah, the only differences are the outfit, the spoken text, and of course beginning with the picto box. Actually, the telescope had some seagull decals on it, and Link’s sister was also wearing a different outfit, too.

I initially thought Link was Zelda, too. 🙂 I’d never heard of the name Zelda before, so I had no idea it was a girl’s name. 😛

I wasn’t sure if my daughter would get into it, but I think the cel-shaded graphic style helps. When my wife asked her what she wants for Valentine’s Day, she said she wanted a stuffed animal yellow Pikmin. I must be doing something right. 😃

Zelda is a real name though. I remember when I was in 11th grade we were reading F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby in honors English and our teacher mentioned that Fitzgerald was married to a flapper named Zelda Sayre, and then he dropped a couple of Legend of Zelda references that no one except I got (23 students, only 2 of them were male :p). That wasn’t the first time he did something like that and I was keeping track (because it made him cool in my book).

Yeah, I’d say you are doing something right :D. I remember I was astonished when my sister started playing Tales of Vesperia with me and she was obsessed with it. Then last year I bought her one of those Lego Wii games for Christmas. It was a Lord of the Rings one and she’s been obsessed with all things Lord of the Rings ever since. One Thanksgiving I got her obsessed with Starfox. And then I found out she was only interested in the soap opera action between Fox and Krystal and not the actual storyline.

Haha wow I thought I was the only one who thought that too. Glad to hear I’m not. 😃

Me too! I really enjoyed that game. My only complaint is there could have been more and harder tombs to raid. I like that stuff. 🙂 Hopefully they’ll add more in the sequel. But otherwise fun game.

Haha, about platformers, someone mentioned them, I hate those with a passion.

And I also like FPS games. But not for console. With PC based games there is a possibility of cheating. Editing save game files, entering codes, editing main files allows one to cheat by gaining more health, ammo, guns and even invulnerability. Game playing should be fun. If a game is too difficult to complete or would take too long, cheating is a great way of getting ahead. Of course only in single player. Console games have no cheats.

I think it is probably a common misunderstanding :p. My sister was confused about Link being a man too when she was little. We used to have all the Nintendo systems in one room and my grandfather was trying to teach her how to play A Link to the Past on the SNES while I was playing Windwaker on the Gamecube. I was using the Windwaker to conduct one of the songs and she looks over and says “look Grandpa, that girl is waving her magic wand!” :o

I have all the nintendo consoles set up in the playroom in my house, NES, SNES, N64, Gamecube, Wii, and WII U. Lately I’ve just been using the Wii for homebrew and I have it set up to play all of our games, NES to WII, off of a HDD so the kids don’t scratch the games. It’s all for the kids though, mostly I just play around with homebrew. I believe the last game I actually played was Windwaker when it came out on the Gamecube. I am looking forward to playing the HD version of Windwaker when I finally get the time. 🙂

Yeah, some of them were very easy and some took a little bit of thought, but in the sequel, I’d want more and a little harder. I also found it ironic how in previous Tomb Raider games, Lara was portrayed as a badass but in this one, there were so many times you just thought, “OMG, that poor girl!” 🙂

I know definitely! I did have to wince a few times. I think I like the more human Lara better overall.

Though, she did take down a whole island of crazy stranded criminals on her own so I would say she’s still pretty dang tough haha 😉

Yip I love them. I’ve played games all my life on and off. I go through phases now.

I try to steer clear of the FPS simply because I’m more of a console gamer than a PC Gamer. Not that I have anything against PC Games.

currently playing FIFA 14 and Don’t Starve on the PS4. don’t starve is a very fun, addictive and hugely frustrating survival game.

we used to have an atari 2600, Games on that were short and extremely hard, especially when we had no button on the controller ha ha.

then I progressed to the Sega Megadrive(Genesis to you guys in the US). I only had 6 games for ages but my goodness they were fun. I had all of them played and cleared inside out.

After that I had a PS1. My brother had a N64 too. That was good too. goldeneye, what a game

Moved onto PS2, PS3 and XBox360 and finally now today I have the 360 and PS4.

My favourite games at the moment are the Arkham series. I know the last game didn’t get great reviews but I loved it. Arkham City being my favourite. Also love Portal and Portal 2. very clever and witty games.
