I’ve been playing video games for probably 30 years starting with the Atari. I’ve only ever owned the Nintendo consoles (and the PlayStation 2 because my wife was into Dance Dance Revolution ). I pretty much stick with the main Nintendo franchises: Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong.

My daughter and I just started playing through Zelda: Wind Waker this past weekend. It’s been ten years since I played through it. It’s funny how much I remember about it even after all this time (especially considering I only ever played through it once). When I play through a Zelda game, I waste a lot of time exploring every nook and cranny, though (such that I usually end up with 19 1/2 hearts by the end – unassisted by the internet ). So that probably helped.

Finding all those pieces of heart without the Internet is a formidable accomplishment though! I never did get all 20 hearts on Windwaker even with the Internet.

Apparently there’s a Zelda spin-off in the works that will be released for Wii U later this year called “Hyrule Warriors.” It’s apparently similar to Dynasty Warriors, so it’s based mostly on fighting enemies rather than solving dungeon puzzles. It should be neat though. I was looking at images of Skyward Sword Link about to face off King Dodongo from OoT that seemed really cool.

Yes, it is Wind Waker HD. There are some neat additions. It’s kind of fun finding the random Tingle bottles all over the place. I just realized yesterday that it is a great way to collect pictographs of various items and characters. They also added the ability to take “selfies” (i.e. pictures of yourself). I got my daughter laughing pretty hard when I was fighting off a group of guys and – in the heat of battle – I accidentally took out the pictograph and took a selfie of me fighting the bad guys.

I still have the Gamecube version, too (and all my Gamecube games … and N64 games – my brother has the NES and SNES, though ). I never get rid of anything.

I always used to pride myself on completing games without any outside help. Gaming before the prevalence of the internet made it easier. Now I’ve discovered, though, that without boatloads of free time to wander aimlessly until I figure it out, the internet is actually quite helpful. I do like figuring stuff out myself, but I’d rather spend the time playing through the game nowadays. So I try to balance the two.

I heard about Hyrule Warriors. I’d never heard of Dynasty Warriors before they made that game announcement. The clip I saw looked interesting. It’s hard for me to pass up anything Zelda. I finally caved on getting the Wii U when they released the limited edition Zelda bundle.

I seem to remember spending lots of time in middle school trying to take pictures of all the enemies to get all the sculptures from the sculptor in that secret area near the Forbidden Woods. Trying to take pictures of the bosses was a little difficult. Those were fun times.

I’ve been playing video games for as long as I can remember! Platformers, fighting games and RPGs are my absolute favorite genres (I have fond memories of playing Tomb Raider, Tekken, Crash Bandicoot and Pokémon as a kid). Right now I’m going back and forth between the very first Spyro game, Sonic 2, Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch and Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm 2. All very awesome games.

I confess a weakness for JRPGs, anything Mario or Sonic, Ratchet and Clank (although I haven’t played any since the PS2 and James Bond games–with the occasional fighting game thrown into the mix.

Yeah there are a few additions. The main one I noticed so far is the tingle bottle. It works with the Wii U’s “Miiverse” in that it allows you to write a “message in a bottle” and send it out to sea. Then as you’re sailing along, you see other people’s bottles and can pick them up. And people can attach pictographs to them.

There’s also a speedy sail that allows you to sail twice as fast, but I haven’t got far enough in the game to find that item yet.

What’s really nice is having the map screen on the Wii U game pad. It makes it a lot easier to see where you are going when you are sailing around.

That’s a big temple! I’m definitely looking forward to that game. My guess is that it won’t come out until October or November of 2015. It always seems like Zelda games have a lengthy development phase. I don’t mind, though. I’d rather wait and get a great game than not wait and get a game that’s just okay.

I really like team fortress, altough i gotta admit that it got some problematic content, but i have seen Christian servers, so i suppose it is ok for mature players, don’t know if any has an opinion about that (and would love to hear it.)

I can’t play them anymore.

I was a complete addict in school. My boyfriend used to have three tv’s with video games going one at once and we would get wasted and play the whole weekend. I thought it was the greatest ever untill … One day I was playing a new game and the “Flash” installed caused me to seizure. I was so scared. Still to this day, if a game, movie, or event has that wild flash thing, I try to get away from it in fear that I might seize again. Probably a good thing because those vg’s were my god. I still find myself entranced in the simple games still and have to avoid them altogether or end up spending a whole weekend without sleep, food, drink, and stuff.

Currently have an Xbox One and love it. It’s almost all voice command activated!

Yes, Final Fantasy VII (and Crisis Core, the prequel) was my all time favorite. I’ve been looking for the best video game ever since. Currently about to get into Assassin’s Creed. Any suggestions out there? Only have an Xbox 360.

Well there is Final Fantasy XIII and XIII-2 (and soon to be Lightning Returns) for Xbox360 if you haven’t already tried those. Apparently the FFXIII series attracted quite a bit of criticism from the fanbase, but I thought both of them were decent. I didn’t mind the linearity of the first one and thought the battle system was cool. And it was challenging near the end of the game which is good. The only other FF I played was FFXII, but I wasn’t that wild about it. There’s also Star Ocean: The Last Hope for Xbox360 which is kind of similar to Final Fantasy (it’s produced by Square-Enix as well) which was a really good game.

I was thinking of downloading FFVII from PSN at some point. I take it that it would be worth the $10, considering it is the “best video game ever?”

Some say the graphics have aged horribly (haven’t all games?), but the story and atmosphere(s) is what brought me in. I can handle linearity as long as the story and characters are attractive. Did you find this about FFXIII? I started playing it (and recently sold it for $1! Doh!) and didn’t come back partly because I stopped gaming in general but also the commands and battle system was a little confusing for this old timer! Maybe I’ll get back into it because the hype for Lightning Returns is growing.

Okay I definitely will then! I actually like a lot of the older games because what they didn’t have in terms of graphics they made up for in storyline and gameplay, which is more important IMO.

I found the storyline interesting, but I also never played some of the really popular FF games so I didn’t have the nostalgia effect overshadowing the whole thing. I think that’s what a lot of critics didn’t like about it. I’m also not the type that puts 200 hours into a single game to do absolutely everything I can. Supposedly the battle system in Lightning Returns is more interactive so maybe more people will like it, although you kind of need to play FXIII-2 to understand the story because it was left hanging on a massive cliffhanger.

Kind of like watching reruns or TV on DVD so you can see everything without waiting week to week, I like getting into old games when they are much cheaper!

I play FPS, TPS, RTS and occasionally RPG’s.

Currently I’m playing Tomb Raider (the latest reboot by Suqare Enix) and Far Cry 3 the most.

Enjoyed Far Cry 2 a lot, partly because it’s one of the few games were the NPC’s speak Akrikaans (my native tongue). Kind of gave me an unfair advantage when you hear an NPC shout in Afrikaans he is going to throw a hand grenade in your direction, Other people probably would have stayed put and gotten blown up.
