It’s forbidden to have the Blessed Sacrament exposed in a monstrance on Holy Thursday. It’s to be reserved in a closed tabernacle or pyx.Hmm…To be honest, the Triduum is the time I dread the most. (I know, I have to ruin it for everyone)
It seems to be the time that priests think that it’s acceptable to really mess with the liturgy. Last year the parish I went to left the wine and bread out for adoration at the end of Holy Thursday. The bread was not in a monstrance, but just sitting on the altar. I could have gone and taken some if I didn’t know any better. I can imagine that if no one was in the Church at the time and someone came in there and didn’t know any better, they might have taken some. (Note that this was homemade bread, not the typical wafers that you have at normal parishes)
