If there is no extant record of it being believed during the first three and a half centuries upon what grounds do you base your assertion that it was? Because the Pope in 1950 said so?Because it was already believed, just not made a doctrine yet, until heresy came against the already existing belief.
Sacred Tradition and Sacred Scripture can help you. But if you follow Sola Scriptura I can understand your blindness to the full truth. So long as your are in the outside of the body of Christ looking in through a window how are you to understand the life lived out in Christianity with out the 5 senses of your living soul. That where God meets us in his true presence, but then you only believe in a symbolic Jesus , Christianity is not a symbolic life, it is a real life lived out in the true presence of Jesus Christ. any thing other is just a symbol that represents the fullness of Truth.
So I cant expect you to understand what you refuse to know.
