My father is the same way, and he’s cradle Catholic who became Methodist:eek:. He gets MacArthur’s CDs and has MacArthur’s Bible (why someone would need to be so pompous as to do that, I don’t know)
How is it pompous to publish an accurate translation of the Bible with study notes? You’re not going to burn him at the stake like you did William Tyndale, are you?

Who is “you”? Also, I’ll assume that “you’re” not going to burn “us” at the stake, as “you” did the scores of faithful Catholics executed by Elizabeth I. Better check that beam in your own historical eye, friend.

Blessings,

Don

I have never burned a soul. That’s ignorance to blame me for something done by a radical group. Let’s get history straight, my friend. Would you blame a present day German for atrocities against the Jewish race?

Back on topic…MacArthur, for him to pubish his own Bible shows arrogance, in my opinion. He plasters his name all over it and is relying on his own interpretation, or those of people before him. Who gives him the authority to do this? Find me a verse in Scripture that says John MacArthur can create his own version of the Holy Bible. I implore you.😉

I can almost picture MacArthur saying “Yay me, Yay me!” upon the distribution of “his” bible. THAT is being pompous.

If they went around telling me how I’m going to Hell if I don’t become a Nazi? Yes.

Interesting that your first instinct would be to compare it to Nazis, when your own pope, during WWII…well, that’s another story, isn’t it?

Not nearly as pompous as believing that you’re infallible.

You come here making all these boastful claims, and for what? I’d love to see you back them up, in all honesty. You’ve made hateful comment after hateful comment.

Is that really the Christian attitude? I know you’re better than that. 👍

Is making false accusations really the Roman Catholic attitude? Do you really think Mary is honored by that? I’m not sure you’re better than that.

The study notes in the Bibles are the most problematic thing. MacArthur did not actually translate the Bible (it is either the NKJV or the NASB). He added the notes. To me, it sounds like he is taking credit for creating a Bible when all he did was add study notes, not actually translate it. That, to me, is arrogant.

IMO, it’s very silly of you to even hint that MacArthur is taking credit for the NKJV, or the NASB translations. 🙂

This past Sunday, MacArthur was given a collector’s edition of his Study Bible by Thomas Nelson Publishing, for having sold its 1,000,000,000th copy in English.

No Study Bible by an individual has ever done that.

And, his Study Bible has been printed in other languages, as well. 🙂

Are you equating popularity with quality? From the D-R:
2Ti 4:3 For there shall be a time when they will not endure sound doctrine but, according to their own desires, they will heap to themselves teachers having itching ears:

All I see is a disagreement over semantics. While it’s true that I wouldn’t have phrased it the way MacArthur did, what he said is not Unbiblical.

The Bible tells us over and over that we’re saved by the death of Christ.

So, now that we’ve shot that one down, what is it that he teaches that you believe is heretical?

MacArthur retracted, and corrected that; as did Augustine, with the many things that he thought he had earlier taught in error.
If he has the conviction that what he said is wrong, then I’m glad he repented of that. But, to be honest with you, unless I’m just misunderstanding what he said, I don’t really see much of a problem with it.

I’m always a little leary of people who have to go back thirty-five years to find something they don’t like, but I’m happy to say that what MacArthur teaches today is right on the money.

Do you have any references that show he retracted that?
Don’t you think it’s a bit weird for you, as a Catholic, to pick up on a critique by ultra-fundamentalists and use it against MacArthur? I can see why you might see their more literal emphasis on blood as preferable from a Catholic perspective because of the connection with the Eucharist, but you know quite well that they don’t believe in the Real Presence any more than MacArthur does. If you are trying to accuse him of not believing in the Real Presence (which he certainly doesn’t, from what he says), you have better places to start than that.
