As Archbishop Sheen’s programs are so accessable, and his message is still relevant, I maintain he remains the Fulton Sheen of this era, or any other.

Father Corapi’s no non-sense, straight to the point, hard line approach is most appealing to me.

Although I am fond of Bishop Sheen - I have a far greater fondness for Fr. Corapi, who I respond to more, and think has a better voice for TODAY then does dear Bishop Sheen. Fr. Corapi’s time is NOW, Fulton Sheen was yesterday.

Definitely Fr. John Corapi!Fulton Sheen was my favorite Catholic televangelist, and he died when I was 2! Who do you think is this era’s Fulton Sheen? Would you say it is Father Corapi? Father Groeschel? Father Apostoli? Mother Angelica? Father Pacwa?
The funny thing is I have seen people try to immitate him and they just fall on their faces!Their content is good, but their effectiveness is not so good.
My vote would be between Mother Angelica and Father Corapi, but it is really hard to decide.

I could (and have thanks to my iPod
) listen to him speak all day. I wish so incredibly much that I could know him in person and have him as a spiritual advisor. Just give me a list of virtues and you can probably apply them to Fr. Groeschel. He is so wise, but so humble. I keep him on my prayer list and hope that his health remains with him…if not for his, then for my sake.

i think he has a number of health problems and that may very well make him appear ‘out of sorts’ when it’s just really him not feeling all that great.

Fr. Benedict is down to earth.
He grew up in Jersey City, NJ and has lived and worked in New York City (and the suburbs).
He’s never in a bad mood. He’s just telling it the way he sees it and he is about as “orthodox” a Catholic as you can find anywhere.

I’ve had the privilege of meeting Father Groeschel, Father Corapi, and Mother Angelica. All three were no-nonsense, get-down-to-it people. This can often be misinterpreted as unfriendly behavior.
I’ve often said those who are obedient to the Spirit aren’t required to be my buddy.

No one can match Fulton Sheen. He had a prime-time program, on a major network, which competed and got higher ratings that the Milton Berle show. Fulton Sheen was responsible for bringing many people to the faith, including Jews and atheist.
I believe Fulton Sheen wrote 60 books in a short period of time and the majority were number one sellers.
He also preached around the world, met and received accolades from Popes and dignitaries.
The only other person to have such an impact I believe would have to be Billy Graham.

Fr Corapi needs bodyguards due to the threats he has received when giving conferences. I just wonder if that was the case with Bishop Sheen. I love Bishop Sheen with a passion and I am reading his books…but at that point of time there was more reverence for Catholic church than there is today…by far! Just my opinion though…

Oh, I’m not condemning the messenger–only Fr. Groeschel always seems to be scowling, like he’s disapproving of the viewers. I’ve never seen him smile.

Did you notice that he doesn’t use his right hand much?
Are readers here aware that he was crushed, nearly to death, when he was hit by a car?
Most of the bones on the right side of his body were broken, his skull was fractured, he suffered a heart attack. All his brain and body functions stopped … and after more than 20 minutes the doctors gave up.
At that point, Father John Lynch begged them to continue.
So they continued to work on him and got a pulse.
They said he would be a vegetable.
But he came back.
Then he got an infection.
They said he would die.
But he came back.
They said he would never walk.
But he came back.
And now he has a live, call-in TV show.
About a year ago, he was giving a speech and afterwords I went over to say hello … and he remembered me although the last time I studied with him was probably 15 years ago.
Anyway, he doesn’t complain, but most people his age are in pain just from age. I’m sure that every time the weather changes, after all his injuries, he feels it.
So, you think he scowls because he has a personality disorder?
Reminds me of people criticizing Pope John Paul II because his hand had a shake … a quiver. Well, your hand would shake and quiver if a bullet tore through it and chopped up all the nerves.
