Who is the "Fulton Sheen" of this era?

it isn’t a competition really…more a sadness that movies like: casablanca or gone with the wind were the ‘gold’ standard of what was ‘classic’…NOW movies like: the breakfast club and fast times at ridgemont high are promoted as such.

But that’s the point. Why does there have to be a new John Wayne or Clark Gable? They were who they were in their time period.

I guess I’m operating from the Christian understanding of self-knowledge. Become the person God had in mind when he created you, not a copy of some one else.

So it is with popular teachers such as, Fr. Corapi and Scott Hahnn. They are who they are and will be known for who they are, not how close they came to Fulton Sheen.

**i agree that fr. corapi and scott hahnn will be known as who they are and not how they measured up to bishop sheen but that wasn’t really the point. (i don’t think).
to use the movie theme again…
there doesn’t HAVE to be a new john wayne or clark gable…but they had a certain something that movie stars lack in todays world and society is worse for it.
no…they weren’t perfect (heaven knows they had problems…look at joan crawford) BUT…i think it’s more the ‘values’ they represented to people in general that is missed today.
there was a sense of hope and patriotism and that life was WORTH something.
‘i’ think that the world NEEDS people to look up too.
bishop sheen was one of those a person COULD look up too.
yes…we SHOULD become who God has chosen us to become but we also have the very human need to have examples to go by.

I really love Fr. Carapi, but to tell you the truth, I don’t know Fr. Larry Richards. Guess I’ll have to look for him.

Nobody can compare to Fulton Sheen, however.
