Who is the patron saint of last resort, no hope, lost causes?

For anyone asking, my patron is St. Sebastian.

That is right.

A popular explanation for this is because his name is similar to that of the “hopeless” Judas Iscariot.

However, the true reason is due to the exhortatory nature of his Epistle.

Here are four patrons of lost causes:

St. Rita of Cascia - Patroness of lost and impossible causes, sickness, wounds, marital problems, abuse, mothers. St. Rita’s body is incorrupt. She also bears a stigmata on her forehead.

St. Jude Thaddeus - patron saint of desperate situations, hospitals and the Chicago Police Department. One of the 12 apostles.

St. Philomena - Patroness of impossible causes,babies, orphans, and youth. Her name means 'Daughter of Light". When she refused to marry the Emperor Diocletian, she was cruelly tortured in many ways for over a month. She was scourged, thrown into a river with an anchor around her neck, and shot through with arrows (connection with Sebastian). St. Gregory of Neocaesarea / St. Gregory Thaumaturgus - Patron against earthquakes, desperate causes, floods, forgotten causes, impossible causes, lost causes. Born into a pagan family, he converted to Christianity via Origen at about 14 years old. Also known as St. Gregory the Wonderworker. St. Gregory of Nyssa said that Gregory Thaumaturgus had experienced a vision of Our Lady and it is believed to be one of the first recorded visions.

You can also add in St. Anthony of Padua.

He is also known as the “wonder worker” saint.

I’ve also prayed to St. Padre Pio when I have also needed assistance, too.

However, St. Jude Thaddeus and St. Rita of Cascia are especially known as saints to call on for interceding when causes and situations seem particularly hopeless.
 
Also, it helps to see the good in one’s life, not constantly thinking things are dire.
Even the terminally ill find joy at times.
Give thanks for what you have, and focus less on what you don’t have.
I’m pretty broke, but rejoice over every penny I find on the ground.

Trust in the Lord, and find a place when you can breathe.

The St. Rita Novena is very efficacious if you have that level of need.
