As for being totally or partially against abortion, the Catholic teaching on this applies the Doctrine of Double Effect. The result is that abortion is always counterindicated for Catholics.
I agree with Zooey and therefore didn’t vote. The question was ‘who is totally against abortion, full stop?’ Yet the poll was about abortion being the worst sin. That is misleading and another reason why I didn’t vote.
It is critical for us to remember the mothers who survive abortions. Their mortal souls are in jeopardy and much in need of our care, compassion, and mercy. We have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of the Lord.
Except for purely medical reasons, I believe abortion is morally wrong. However, I am pro-choice, because I don’t think civil law should be in the business of making moral decisions. There are just some times when the decision has to be left to the individual.
I am not, however, opposed to the Catholic Church’s stance on abortion, since they are in the morality business.
