Betcha weren’t raise Baptist, were ya? You’d have gotten it with your mother’s milk!
And you’d be spot on there, my friend! I was raised on pure, unadulterated, un-homogenized CATHOLIC mother’s milk, was a long time in weaning, and when we moved to the Bible Belt was convinced that all Baptists were Kluxers! (Or, at least, all Kluxer’s Baptist!)

I have always heard this passage taught, when the meaning of “us” is discussed, as a statement of the Trinity.

If you’re LDS - as you say “a fellow LDS… will tell me…” then I would think that you are to understand “us” as meaning a plurality of gods, of which Heavenly Father is but one.
Care to know what the real LDS answer to that is? Here is the quote:

Moses 2:

26 And I, God, said unto mine Only Begotten, which was with me from the beginning: Let us make man in our image, after our likeness; and it was so. And I, God, said: Let them have dominion over the fishes of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

27 And I, God, created man in mine own image, in the image of mine Only Begotten created I him; male and female created I them.

amgid,

I completely forgot about that! Your fellow LDS still needs no new Bible, though - just jump forward to the PoGP.

One of these days - not too soon as I’m preparing to move - I do want to get into the Book of Moses, though. I feel as though I’ve cheated Moses as, of all the uniquely LDS standard works, I’ve only read Moses entirely once. I do a lot of ‘reading around’ Moses but not the book itself (and I’ve really no excuse).

Hope you and yours and all my friends here are having a wonderful Thanksgiving and giving God all the praise and glory which is His alone!

Thank you Ben, and the same to you. And keep up that good genealogical work!

amgid,

I should actually start on thread concerning genealogical research, the Family History Center’s (or, as they’re known in the UK & Canada, Centres), PAF & other apps made available from the LDS church, etc…

I’ll quickly share the story of how I got started - and it all starts with the LDS church (sort of!). In 1981 I received a letter from a woman with my Mom’s last name who was living in Seattle and she was interested in finding out about the circumstances of the death of one of my uncles and his two sons in Alaska (long story there, but an interesting one!). She was LDS, a ‘fifth’ cousin to me, and helping out a ‘third’ cousin who taught at BYU with his genealogical research. I sent her copies of newspaper clippings, magazine stories, etc., about my uncle’s and cousins’ deaths and she sent me a very nice ancestry list and that just whetted my appetite. But I really didn’t do anything with it until I moved to the UK and that was when I found, about a miles walk from my flat, the LDS FHC (wasn’t called that at the time, though) in London. Three years later I was able to send my two cousins gedcom files that took us 500 years further back to a common ancestor who was a KING of Wales! We’ll - a small ‘k’ king - and just a portion of Wales - but he was deeded more land by William I and was quite a wealthy (and long-lived) man for his time.

Never able to get as much information on my paternal side as Eastern Europeans seemed to travel round quite a bit - only have that side going back to the 16th century.

But - had it not been for the fine men and women who volunteered their time at the London FHC, I would never have thought to begin and would never have been able to amass such a HUGE amount of material.

A fascinating story Ben. Somebody on the other side wants you to do this work. I hope you will submit their names to the Church for temple work to be done for them.

I don’t know if sister Faith would concur, as there seems to be different Bible (or corrupt Bibles in many people’s hands today). I had hoped to clear up this passage from tangible proof from all my brothers and sisters, including Islamic denominations.

Since the Quran is a perfect document, I’ll bet there is a clear understanding of this verse from my Islamic brethren.

What becomes even more discerning is this subject verse and 1 Corth 12:4-6. There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but one spirit. Finally, in Mat 20:18 – 19, what is going on here when the Son of man will be raised up on the third day?

Where is this coming from?

Wildkit,

I’m very confused as to whether you’re trying to ask a question, make a point, or exactly where you are “coming from”?

This question that you posted was originally posted, I believe, in the LDS sub-group when it was still in existence and now that the sub-groups have been merged into one happy family, and I’ve read some of your other messages, it seems that the “Sister Faith” of whom you speak is Islamic? So whether or not Sister Faith would concur with the quite definitive, in my opinion, answers to your question given by both PAX777 in message #15, representing the Catholic and Jewish view, and by amgid in message #23, representing the LDS view is something you should likely ask "Sister Faith"via a PM her as the blending of the groups have caused some confusion - particularly amongst we who posted primarily in one sub-forum or another.

I have no clue as to what you mean when you say “What becomes even more discerning is this subject verse…”, etc. “Discerning” what exactly? If you’re saying that you are able to discern “X” from the reading of Genesis 1:26 in conjunction with 1 Cor 12:4-6, it would be helpful if you’d clue us in on exactly what you’ve discerned (if, in fact, discern is the word you meant to use - disconcerting seems the more likely word, given your sentence structure) in comparing the two texts.

I would also suggest that should you wish to start a new discussion of Matthew 20:18 – 19, you begin a new thread - and if you are, again, looking for Islamic (name removed by moderator)ut you should perhaps address the question with a notation to that effect lest a NT discussion prove to be a topic which our Muslim friends may not realize is addressed to them as well.

I am confused right from the start. In Genesis 1:26, it reads,"Then God said, “Let us make men in our image, after our likeness. Let them have dominion over the the fish, the sea, the birds of the air, and the cattle, and over all the wild animals, and all the creatures that crawl on the ground.”

Who is us?

It then continues in Genesis 1:27 “God created man in his image.”

Do I need to find some other Bible or did the Lord just confuse me?

It’s probably a “plural of deliberation”
