Wisdom is the Holy Spirit. The gender of the noun isn’t really relevant as the 3 Persons of the Trinity are Spirit and thus, genderless.

:bigyikes: Jesus was Genderless???

And HE called God “Father”

Excuse me? He could have been clearer had He wanted to I mean look at the “I am the Bread of Life” discourse He made abbundantly clear he was being literal.

If the Jews had any misconceptions on the “gender” of GOD, Jesus would have straightned then down! 👍

All ships are ‘her’

In Latin all poets and farmers are also ‘her’

The persons of the trinity are sexless, gender is a part of speech.

Jesus (the man) is male, Jesus the Person of God is without sex. After all, we are made in his image, male and female he made us.

off topic! so this “she” Wisdom is just the Holy Spirit?

Well, I wouldn’t say “just” the Holy Spirit. Certainly Wisdom as the Person of the Trinity is certainly the Holy Spirit. But human wisdom–the human ability to absorb and use wisdom, directed by the Holy Spirit, is the “handmaid” of God and man. That may be where some of the confusion comes from. 🙂

The 7 gifts of the Holy Spirit are
Understanding
Counsel (Right Judgment)
Fortitude (Courage)
Knowledge
Piety (Reverence)
Fear of the Lord (Wonder and Awe)
Wisdom

So all of these are from the Holy Spirit and therefore accessible through the Holy Spirit. I think Wisdom is not so much a “Who”, as an aspect of God’s gifts to men. A gift not given to plant or animals. Only to man and angels.

Wisdom has been associated with Mary, addessed as a feminine noun (her, she) in proverbs and other places, and forshadowed in the stories of the great women of the Old Testament such as the story of Judith.

***Today is not the first time your wisdom has been shown, but from the beginning of your life all the people have recognized your understanding, for your heart’s disposition is right. **(Judith 8:29)

**Her words pleased Holofernes and all his servants, and they marveled at her wisdom and said, “There is not such a woman from one end of the earth to the other, either for beauty of face or wisdom of speech!” *(Judith 11:20-21)

The use of “:Wisdom” in the OT predates the Incarnation, at which time the 2nd person of the Trinity was, indeed, genderless, the noun had gender and so Wisdom (Holy Spirit) is referred to as “she” when translated because we just don’t use “it” for a Person.

Jesus of Nazareth, during the Incarnation, was true human being and so, had gender. Gender is a function of being in Time, as He no longer resides in Time, He no longer has gender.

As for calling God “Father,” it is not the teaching of the Church that God has any gender, the “Father” is the Creator and Source, not a man. God is not male.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church 239:God transcends the human distinction between the sexes. He is neither man nor woman: he is God.

Uh - YOU were the one who brought up Wisdom as being referred to in the feminine. So, yes, it’s entirely on your topic to point out why. I don’t think there is any “just” about God.

The writer of the Gospel according to John associates (via midrash) this divine wisdom with the logos, which is Christ (cf. Prov. 3:19, 8:30; John 1:1-2).

“Wisdom” is a feminine word in Hebrew.

See Daniel Boyarin, Harvard Theological Review, 94:3 [2001] 242-84.

ALL GOOD things are from God:)

Wisdom is one of the Seven Fruits of the Holy Spirt [God]

“Seven biblically” stand for perfect, complete]

Wisdom
Knowledge
Understanding
Counsel
Fortitude
Piety and
Fear of the Lord.

John 4: 23-24 TELLS US
“But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true adorers shall adore the Father in spirit and in truth. For the Father also seeketh such to adore him. God is a spirit; and they that adore him, must adore him in spirit and in truth.”

God “The Blessed trinity” then is a Spiritual “Enity” without any Gender.

Jesus who is the BOTH True God and at the same time True God alone has BOTH perfect and complete Natures- Of God and of man.🙂

This idea of God as feminine gender is FOOEY:D

God’s continued Blessings,

I believe Proverbs3:15 says “Wisdom is a Tree of Life” but further in Proverbs 4:22 on it is referring to Jesus in creation playing before the Father and all things being created through him. I have also herd it being the Holy Spirit, with the Bride of Jesus Christ “The New Jerusalem” The Church in Heaven. The Book of Proverbs takes a lot on “Wisdom of God”.😉 God Bless

The phrase used by Our Lady in her Lourdes appearances–“I am the Immaculate Conception”–disturbed theologians as an absolute is-ness that should be used to define God. St. Maximilian Kolbe noted that the Virgin Mary shares spousal unity with divinity, i.e., the Holy Spirit, and while not sharing Godhead, enjoys that spousal unity with divinity that would allow her to define herself as an is-ness. So it is with Wisdom, personified as female in the Old Testament, and highly suggestive of the spousal unity with divinity of the Virgin Mary. This is seen in John’s Apocalypse as the “Spirit & the Bride” unite in giving the message to welcome the awesome trial leading to Christ’s Second Coming, saying, “Come.” “Wisdom has built her house with seven pillars, mingled her wine and welcomed her guests.” What greater wisdom than that fulfilled in the Virgin Mary who counsels us regarding Christ, “Do whatever He says.”

English is a gender nuetral language; Spanish and the other romantic languages are gender biased…

In Spanish “gente” is a feminine term that means people–of course that does not mean that “la gente” refers to only females… it is simply a collective noun whose respective article happens to be “la,” a definite feminine designation.

In that respect Wisdom (sabiduría/la sabiduría) would have a feminine designation.

Biblical “Wisdom” is attributed to Jesus, by some. Personally, I attribute it to the Holy Spirit.

Isn’t Mary the Seat of Wisdom and Spouse of the Holy Spirit? Wisdom is indeed feminine.
