CS Lewis and Thomas Aquinas

Agree that Ravi rocks!

Amongst modern Roman Catholics, only Peter Kreeft.

A really interesting question for posters here: why is modern Roman Catholic apologetics focused on defending the ideosyncratic Roman beliefs (Marian devotion, etc.), whereas Evangelical and Protestant apologetics (e.g. Josh McDowell, CS Lewis) is focused on defending Christianity in general?
Apologetics is defense of the faith. Defend wherever the attacks come from

Hey, I just joined, had to when I seen this posting, although I’ve reading post’s here for months 🙂 I just started reading Apologetics, Ravi Zacarhis is fantastic, but my vote goes to William Lane Craig, I don’t tink you can find better than him:thumbsup:

  1. Scott Hahn.
  2. Jimmy Akins.
  3. John Martignoni
  4. Steve Ray
  5. David Currie
  6. Karl Keating
  7. Mark Shea
  8. Dave Armstrong
  9. John Salza
  10. Robert A. Sungenis
  11. Fr. Vincent Serpa
That’s a great list!

Is that the order too? or did you just list them randomly?

I like (in order of preference);

  1. *]Tim Staples
    *]Peter Kreft
    *]Jeff Cavins
    *]Steve Ray
    *]Marcus Grodi
    *]Karl Keating
    *]Rosalind Moss

    *]John Salza
    *]Dave Armstrong
    *]Mark Shea

(emphasis added)

Because that is who is being attacked. Apologists defend the Faith whenever attacked.

Why isn’t G.K. Chesterton on your list? Tsk, tsk.
I have never read Chesterton’s apologetics books, but I did read his Father Brown mysteries, and actually did a research paper on them for my English Lit. class. I’ll have to pick up some of his apologetics works. Which do you recommend? I might try Hillaire Belloc as well, since he and Chesterton were contemporaries.

I have read C.S. Lewis. Screwtape Letters* * was required reading in high school theology. I’ve also read Mere Christianity**, which was awesome!

I must put these names before your list;:

St. Jerome
St. Ignatious of Antioch
St. Cyril of Jerusalem
St. John Chysostom
St. Vincent of Lerins
👍 Ah yes of course!!

I guess Manny was only thinking of today’s Apologists. I know I was. But I’m sure he agrees with your list too as I do too. 😉

Perhaps that is because a lot of evangelicals don’t regard Catholicism as Christian, and hence, attacking Catholic beliefs to them is equivalent to “defending” Christianity in general.

Robert Morey: faithdefenders.com/ministry

His ministry has declined in recent years, btw. He was quite large in the middle 1990’s. He sort of marginalized himself by heavy-handed attacks on Islam, his specialty. Morey is a very good scholar when he wants to be, but he prefers to use a great deal of biting humor and loaded attacks, which make his debates lively and fun to listen to even though this method detracts sometimes from his overall presentation.

Ron Rhodes: ronrhodes.org/

He is less prominent as well, having first come to view as a guest-host on the Bible Answerman after the death of Walter Martin and before the ascension of Hank Hanegraaff. He is much more scholarly and reserved than Morey.

Thanks for the links. I really like Ron Rhodes’ website. I noticed he even has Catholic links on his site to disprove the Freemasonry cult.🙂

The great Jim Licoudis is my favourite apologist.

Forgot to mention St’s Basil and Anselm, Clement and my namesake Pope St Sixtus 👍

The first apologetic author that re-sparked my faith in Cathlocism is Peter Kreeft. I highly recommend his book “Refutation of Moral Relativism” for any secularists and modern Christians and Catholics who fail to see God does not mold Himself for us but we should form ourselves to His image. C.S. Lewis is excellent in sharing his view of his romantic love of God. Rod Bennett has a book on early Church history “Four Witnessess: The Early Church in Her Own Words”. Last but not least Patrick Madrid is a very overall knowledgable apoloetic.👍

Ron Rhodes has a book out called “Reasoning from the Scriptures with Catholics” which happens to be a very superficial view and apologetic against Roman Catholicsm. He is very easy to refute for any amatuer Catholic apologetics, like myself, would like to understand a superficial view on how non Catholic Christians view us and our beliefs.
